@NoOpen First I am not young and I understand completely the concept of "ripoffs", if you copy someones design and use it to take over there business even if it is better you are still ripping them off. Second Your argument makes no sense, it is not easy to modify a mod to make it a non forge mod, you would have to completely rewrite the mod. For someone like me that has 6 to 7 mods that are forge mods that would not be easy. And I have experience in writing programs including C#, C++, and Java. And I have been modding Minecraft for over a year know. So I would conclude that for the average user it would be impossible.
@dmillerw FML does work better in some ways than modloader but the way they achieve that is the problem I have with forge. They download and overwrite any "corrupted" class files. In other words even if forge did not modify the class file if it has been changed by anything other than forge it is overwritten. Now I can not prove this and the people on the forge forums deny it but they can not explain why the log file has the following lines in it when I installed this mod in the jar file.
2012-09-27 01:57:13 [FINE] [ForgeModLoader] Enabling mod Mystcraft
2012-09-27 01:57:13 [FINE] [ForgeModLoader] Activating mod Mystcraft
I also have single-player commands installed and it does not appear in the log and it is not loaded. Even if I put it in the jar file after forge. and overwrite any class files. I can fix this once single player commands releases its code for 1.3.2 by just combining the changes in the class files so I would have a forge compatible version of single player commands. Or I can wait for the FTB team to do it so they can use worldedit on there maps.
Also, I am not the first to say this FlowerChild was working on forge and seen that this is what they where aiming towards and that is one of the reasons why he left forge and decided to make Better than Wolves a non forge compatible mod. If you don't believe me go look it up.
Umm SinglePlayer Commands is now installs in the form of a .jar... meaning that you would have to launch the jar to install it....
I always find it funny how someone will claim Forge "doesn't work" and that they "need to fix it" and yet it works just fine for what? Tens of thousands of people?
I disagree its probably hundreds of thousands of people
I do not understand this mentality of "Oh, Forge 'copied' features so that's bad!" These features that have been implemented in fixes or separately over time were valued by the modding community and integrating them into a big modding API is the logical thing to do. This idea that somehow the original authors of the fix are somehow negatively affected by "losing users" is strange too - their code has been integrated into a huge modding API used by a LOT of people. If they developed their mod originally as some kind of monetary scheme and they are butthurt that their not getting their atrocious adfly links clicked, then I have no sympathy for them as coders who can't appreciate their work being successful by being used.
This is the exact same argument with Tekkit/Technic. It's kind of surprising to see the same argument aimed at Forge as well.
While I don't agree, I do agree on the whole forge topic. Basically whenever I see forge as a requirement, I skip the mod. Not that there's anything wrong with forge itself, but the installation of the whole has broken and kept me from playing minecraft for well over a year. I now use magiclauncher, and forge isn't compatible with that, or most of my favorite mods like rei's minimap. I don't understand why people can't just use modloader. Why the sudden change to forge?
If you use MultiMC it will ensure total compatibility (well installing wise not block ids and such) with Forge
I am starting to get sick of this damm complaining... if you don't want to use Forge, then go bug the damm developers of the mod about it not, the people who spend valuable time making this API. For those that are the coders, which might not seem interesting to users, it is a great API to use since it lets coders do so much more then they could with Modloader, I mean you could use ModLoader if u like (which will still be compatible with Forge because of FML). For the users it is great because it includes the 4096 fix which lets users install more mods than they could have before with ModLoader. But if you still want to stick with ModLoader than that is fine with me... and you want to use big mods such as IC2 or BC3? Sry not the API developers problem... you just have to keep bugging the mod developers to make a ModLoader version. Final thing to say... no one likes the people who start these pointless posts complaining, are people (who I think) are not taking initiative and asking themselves. They are just people who are sitting back right now and "hope" that this will just solve itself which in reality won't happen.
I don't know about anyone else, but before Forge, i was NEVER able to have '52 mods installed' staring at me. ANYONE being unhappy about that needs to take a step back...

Forge has not gone to far it needs to go farther.

I agree 100% with the OP. Forge has gone too far. I mean, really, who needs a single API for all of your development needs? Who needs extremely easy installation? Who needs something that is constantly being updated? Who needs something that comes out before minecraft does when you can wait around for a month until modloader updates? I seriously don't understand why people seem to "like" forge. Maybe they're being paid...

Shhh! No one is supposed to know that they pay to like Forge!
I (politely) disagree, because:
1. The guys at forge never said that you CAN'T mod without MCForge (as far as I know), I think they would mean it's EASIER to mod with MCForge, and harded with no API's whatsoever.
2. I read somewhere that they didn't actually steal the ModLoader code, but made their own compatibility code from scratch. I can tell you as a modder that what I just said is true. The files aren't even in the same directories and have different names.
I hope you don't think I'm going all spazzo, I just wanted to make my own point, because I used to think Forge was crappy for modifying heaps of base files, but when I looked a little deeper into the functionality, I couldn't live without it. And anyway, most mods are using Froge now because of it's universal code and plugin-like mod addition.

We also used to ride around on horses, now we drive cars. The pro's of forge far outweigh any cons you discussed.
Cars have gone too far... I no longer have horse crap to clean up everyday. Why did the car companies take away my right to own a horse? I mean, my neighbor has a car and she got to work easier than me on my horse, and it is unfair! I mean, they are basically forcing me to own a car, otherwise everyone else has it easier. Why do I have to change to an easier option to have it as easy as everyone else with that option?
forge helps a lot with modding actually, and i like that they implemented modloader, its really useful. i haven't found anything wrong with forge really.
Forge also lets you see the mods installed so you know they work.
@ above, please don't bring up the whole issue about BWF again. The topic yesterday involved some highly offensive things which the moderators still have not finished dealing with. Yes it is a very hot topic but when it involves some of the despicable, disrespectful and potentially traumatising comparisons that were flying around it really is best not to post about it.

MCPatcher adds code which is not needed which screws up how some mods can launch. My best peice of advice is for u to use MultiMC or etc...

Why PM
Any questions?
That would actually make some sense, though the Official API needs to go further than forge.
