I'll start with what you're probably wondering. This is similar to Skyrim. In fact, very similar.
What I would like is a dragon mob that spawns randomly in the sky and breathes fire at you. It should be just like the ender dragon, but it should land occassionally, it should have less health, it should not be able to break blocks by flying through them, and it should spawn in the overworld randomly.
The fire breathe should deal 1.5 - 2 hearts damage for every second you are in the fire breath, and should catch you on fire like lava and fire would. They should have 125 health (Roughly 63% of enderdragon's health). Upon death it should drop 1-3 Dragon Bones, and 2-3 Dragon Scales. You should get 25 EXP for killing a dragon.
The dragon's texture should be a seperate file from the enderdragon's texture, so random mobs could be used without effecting the enderdragon. (Use full colour texture file not grey-tone) The dragon's image file should either be in the mobs folder, or a seperate Dragon folder in the jar for simplicity.
Dragons should spawn more commonly near mountain biomes, but should still be capable of spawning in any biome. They should always spawn flying, but staying within about a 10 chunk radius of their spawn zone until they start attacking the player, in which case they can fly anywhere, as long as they don't go too far from the player.
Dragons should also attack villagers and wild animals, but not enemy mobs such as spiders and creepers. When killed, they should show the same animation as the enderdragon, but they should fall to the ground instead of floating upwards.
Dragon Bones and Scales should be able to be made into equipment. Bones should be used to make Swords ,and Scales should be made into armour. You should also be able to craft Dragon-flight Arrows, which would do 0.5 more damage than regular arrows, and should also fly up to 10 blocks further.
Now for a list of new items and recipees:
Dragon Bone:
Useless in it's current state. Can be used to craft Dragon's Blade and Dragon-flight Arrows.
Dragon Scale:
Useless in it's current state. Can be used to craft Dragon Skin Helmet, Dragon Skin Chestplate, Dragon Skin Leggings, Dragon Skin Boots, Dragon's Blade, and Dragon-flight Arrows.
Dragon's Blade:
Deals 1 damage more than diamond, but only has 1,236 uses. Recipe:
Stick Dragon Bone Dragon Scale
Dragon-flight Arrow:
Deals 0.5 more damage than a regular arrow, and flies up to 10 blocks further. Recipe:
Dragon Bone Feather Dragon Scale
Dragon Skin Armours: Recipe: Dragon Scale
Helmet-
Chestplate-
Leggings-
Boots-
These are the images you'll need if you decide to make this mod:
This diagram is to explain what the parts of the armour are:
The yellow box is the wings for the helmet (light orange). They should stick out of the side of the helmet at an angle between 10 degrees and 40 degress if possible. If not, make them appear to stick out of the side of the helmet.
The small orange box near the red boxes, is an ornament that should be placed on the pants where a belt buckle would be. The red boxes are the legs.
The blue boxes are the chestplate.
The purple boxes are the greaves. (Boots)
The green boxes are the arms for the chestplate. (yes I know there aren't normally arms) The aqua boxes are the shoulder spikes. The left it the front and back of the spikes, and the right is the sides.
It's supposed to take time to kill the dragon, but not quite as long as the enderdragon. Since there aren't any shield crystals in place insaley hard to hit, it already decreases the time by a lot.I lowered the health to make it quicker, but I'm thinking it should be a little bit lower. It still has to be kind of difficult since the dragon bone/scale equipment is a near equivilent of diamond. Dragons are also a rare mob so it almost of equals out the difficulty to get dragon bones/scales. I do thik diamond is unbelievably rare so they will be more common than diamond.
I'm going to start designing the needed images to make this mod, so expect them in the OP soon.
EDIT: I was reading the Red Dragon page on MCWiki, and I realized that some of the planned features are similar to this mod idea. You can check it out here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Red_Dragon
I'd love to see a mod like this. IDEA: The more dragons you kill, the more likely stronger ones will spawn. As you level up in Skyrim, harder dragons spawn, but there is no real leveling up in Minecraft.
By the way, you should find a modder who has nothing to do. They might help you.
I did NOT recieve a notificaion for this. **** is about to go down!
Okay now. In all seriousness, that's a good idea, but in Skyrim, the player gets stronger the more enemies they fight. This doesn't happen in Minecraft.
I did just think of a new feature however! For any adventure map makers, they can add Quest Dragons. They can have custom names, textures, and strength. (Damage and Health)
Thanks! If you reuse the Enderdragon model, and skrink it a little bit, it should be easy. Then the hard part would be changing the AI instead of making a new model.
EDIT: Would it be easier for you if all dragons had a boss health bar? I imagine that's coded somewhere mixed in with the enderdragon's AI.
There is already a pretty good mod for tamable dragons with fightable dragons. Or was that a request?
Anyways, your progress sounds good! I just have to ask, what's the notched picaxe? Is it a pickaxe made from dragon bones? I think tools is a good idea since we have everything else basic ores can make.
If there was a way to add custom dragons, it would be awesome, but the health bar color doesn't mater to me. I can stay purple or it can red, or blue, or anything. Having a name displayed over it would be cool however.
If people could just put in a texture and a text document with the dragon's stats, both having the dragon's name as the file's name, it would be great.
Other than that, there shouldn't be a problem. If you need any more textures, let me know, I can make them, and if you need coding help, I can find somebody. Just send me a PM if you need anything.
What about having a list of prefixes, names, suffixes and titles instead of spawning them individually? Like Itz'chac'in The Devourer? or Zi'No'Bah The Restless? Maybe Alduin the Firstborn?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
A mad god can still have a heart, it's just wrapped in an enigma inside a mystery coated in riddles, all guarded with lasers.
I never found one... I guess you can add that as a rare item in dungeons. Or we can add Dragon's Lairs that spawn on mountain and in huge caves in mountain sides.
I think I might have the solution for spawning stronger dragons! Instead of leveling up, you kill 10 of a dragon to make stronger ones appear. Blood Dragons appear after you kill 10 normal ones, Frost Dragons appear after you kill 10 Blood Dragons, and so on. I would love to see dragons having sieges against naturally-generated villages like they did in Skyrim... That would be the best Minecraft experience involving Testificates!
Minecraft is a big game, and adding only 5 types of dragons makes it a minor addition. Here's a list of the extra dragons I thought of, from weakest to strongest.
Small and green.
Dragon- Normal-sized and brown.
Blood Dragon- A bigger, green dragon.
Mechanical Dragon- They are dark yellow, and some limbs have golden replacements. Slightly based off of Dwemer Automatons.
Frost Dragon- They are white and ALWAYS breathe frost. They are weak to fire.
Crimson Dragon- They are big and bright red. They usually breathe fire, but can breathe frost.
Ancient Dragon- They are very big and dark orange.
Lightning Dragon- They have a very bright yellow color. Their eyes glow. Unlike most dragons, they breathe electricity. Beware!
Netheric Dragon- They are huge and red. They breathe either Nether Flames or Ghast Frost. They are rare in both the Overworld and The Nether.
Last but not least... THE ENDERDRAGON! It is 10x bigger than normal, and alot more aggresive. It will breathe Void Matter. It does more damage than most dragon breath, and can rarely does some serious damage. It can teleport, too, but its heavy body makes it take longer... So it can still take an arrow in the knee! It will sometimes charge at you, which pushes you into the air, causing fall damage. Very rarely it will preform Void's Fate. The dark dragon with take a deep breath first, and it never turns his head until the attack is over, but it will do some extremely fatal damage. Sometimes it can kill you. If possible, you should tweak the death animation. Perhaps you can make it sink to the ground, then have an epic but harmless explosion, spawning the portal to the Overworld.
I understand that some of this may be too complex, so ignore any ideas that is either really hard, impossible, or if it will take forever. If it will take forever to make skins for these, I may be able to cheat(not literally). HINT: It involves Microsoft Office 2007. If the programming is too complex for even the best modders, I will find a more simple solution.
PS: Tonight, I will think about specific drops for these dragons.
