Ugh...why do zombies and skeletons just not die in the day rather than hide under trees or go in water? :sad.gif: This was the question I had when I played a bit of the 1.2 snapshots. Then it came to me: something that could burn those mobs, even under shade/water...a portable sun.
Now, these "suns" wouldn't necessarily need to illuminate the path around you while you're holding it. Although when in a certain range - let's say, 7 blocks - of a skeleton or zombie, it would light it on fire. The effect can't penetrate through blocks, so skeletons and zombies behind a wall can't be lit on fire, too.
If doing this isn't possible, then make the portable sun at least hangable. You could put it on a wall, and it would illuminate the area brightly (more than a torch) around you. Within a certain range, it would also light the two mobs mentioned before on fire (8 blocks away from the sun and closer could work). This would help in mining amazingly, but still wouldn't protect you from creepers. :wink.gif:
Of course, it would need to be powered, too. It should consume fuels, kind of like a furnace, to remain on (although it could consume fuels faster). It could also be turned on or off, so even when you're not wielding it but it's on, it could consume fuel.
Just a thought on a mod. What do you guys think? :tongue.gif:
I like this, it should be made of some kind of ultra rare sun stone found in the end as a remnant of the world that existed before the endermen invaded?

a bit overpowered to me, and since he's made the AI so that zombies and skeletons run towards shade to hide this would completely negate that and take away some of the new danger elements Jebs adding. if it was very expensive to make or hard to obtain, i could understand, but that remoethreat of zombies, skeletons, and endermen all in one go, so yeah.

Not if it were only to be found in the end, after the dragon was killed.
I'd love it if you'd click the banner and/or give a reputation point.
just use GIMP for your sun texture
