We're looking at a summer vacation pretty soon. Not sure how that'll change our productivity.
My nephew's been really excited by the idea of this mod. I'm looking forward to having something worthwhile to show him. (He's 8, btw.)
CGuangJun, in terms of getting the items coded in - prior to any recipes or anything - how far along are we with that? You still waiting on textures, or definitions, or the like? I remember we chose a space for the items, but I don't recall hearing any status past that point.

My YouTube channel is currently on hiatus, but I hope to get back to it at some point. Content is fairly random, but can be enjoyable, and is mostly game footage (mostly random Minecraft clips) from my nephews and me. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!

We're only done with the flint recipe...and in my opinion, that is FAR too slow wotsit's setting up a git for us, so we'll be able to make things more organised by then, and hopefully get the alpha done as soon as possible so that we can proceed to the more interesting parts.
We're always glad to have testers lined up. Not sure how soon we'll get there, though.
Any chance you could post some screenshots of the stuff you've got going on the server? (I know some people dislike heading off for YouTube vids, and others can't make them play at all.)
Looks nice, though. Is the music just for the vid or did you manage to make it work on the server too?

Sweet, I searched for a Harvest Moon thread expecting to see nothing. Glad to see that there is one! I've been hooked since playing the original on SNES.
I haven't read the entire thread, but I have a couple of mods that could be of use for guidance/inspiration. These are not my mods. I'm not a coder, but I know that making mods for Minecraft has to come from intrinsic motivation. As in from yourself since since there really is not much opportunity to make money, even from adF.ly. So you have my thanks for attempting this!. At it's core, Minecraft SSP has become boring for me and so I like to use and try different mods. Just do not have the same feeling of being new to the game when I bought it back in Alpha.
I'm also not asking ANYONE to plagiarize, but this is more for reference and ideas. If anything, I wonder if the creators of these two Mods would allow them to be combined or altered in a way that makes it more like Harvest Moon. In fact, I'm willing to bet that Mo' Creatures could be used as well to add more farm animals. Like I said, I'm not a coder, so I do not even know if it is possible to take parts from other mods (if given permission of course) and then suture them together like Frankenstein's monster lol.
This mod allows for the player to woo villagers (the villagers are human, not ugly vanilla), marry, have children (baby to child) and the children do chores for you.
=================================================================================
I have not had a chance to install both and see if they are even compatible with each other, but reading through out the thread, I just remembered these two mods and how much they are closely related to Harvest Moon. I wish I could make mods because I would be very motivated to help with this project
Axcess, we're glad to have the links; it's always good to compare our work to that of other modders to make sure we don't overlap too much, or that we improve focus and such. (We did the same tightening-up of concepts once someone pointed out the Runecraftory mod.)
I don't think we've mentioned Pam's mods on this thread, though I might be wrong. I've certainly encountered them before. (I'm not 100% sure but I think her flowers mod was the one I enjoyed for a while, and that was in large part to her willingness to make a special version compatible with my mod build at the time, for which reason I think fondly of her.) But yeah, we can learn some things from her mods, which are quite neat.
As for animals, I think we've got them covered without any need for Mo' Creatures. We actually managed to upgrade the Cow into a more HM-looking cow, thanks to an enterprising member of the team, Twanneh, who also made a puppy.
Minecraft Comes Alive has been suggested before, and I've looked it over. Seems neat. I really loved the "special feature" idea for Hardcore mode (and it seems similar, in some ways, to a suggestion I've had called Precious Child, Immortal Guardian (similar in that it changes the ways you think about the respawn mechanic)).
Also, Axcess, if you're bored with single-player mode, I really suggest you try some custom maps. If nothing else, grab one or more of the Super Hostile maps. I'm playing Legendary right now, which has a slightly difficult start and strongly controlled resources (e.g., I'm to the third intersection of some very large areas and I still haven't found a steady supply of stone that wasn't made by a water/lava farm - let alone any iron), but in general covers the widest range of location terrain, like mini-versions of the other Super Hostile maps. I could also recommend grabbing an old version of Black Desert (he's in the middle of updating it), or an up-to-date version of Kaizo Caverns (if you like claustrophobia), Infernal Sky (if you like open areas and the constant threat of falling into the void), or Nightmare (if you like extremely dangerous beginnings that'll probably make you reload the map at least a couple times, and a pretty tough grind overall).
I found my overall enjoyment of Minecraft went up significantly once I stepped outside the vanilla maps and started playing customs. There's a wide variety to choose from, and the Super Hostile series (which sounds like it's just for hardcore players but really isn't) is just the best I've found so far.

I finally setup a github project/repository. Sorry for the long time, I had to battle with ssh, svn and stuff like that. I'm not completely 100% sure how this works at an intimate level, but I think I get the basics. If anyone has github experience, feel free to explain.
I'm basically in the same situation.... crap. I will get around to googling it, but right now I have a biatch of a headache so I think I am going to head to bed.
nd all this can't be done in Java. This sounds like round Minecraft. But, you know, more advanced.
...what? Java is a fully-featured programming language; you could write round Minecraft if you wanted. I have seen no goals in this thread that are even remotely unobtainble in the context of Java.
You could argue whether certain goals are going too be too complex to be worth the time investment, but to say that Java isn't capable of them is very wrong.
Keep in mind that GitHub takes care of the "setting up a server" part of the Git tutorials. Git is insanely good to have for community coding, so you should learn the basics for sure. It allows you to always have an up-to-date complete copy of the code repository on your local machine for you to work around in.
Kilyle, anything for me to do? Or give suggestions or opinions to?
Did you get my PM? I don't see any reply from you so far. Basically I thought it might be time for us thinkers (who don't have skill in coding or texturing) to run off to email or, if you'd prefer, a PM thread, and discuss the cast list for a bit. OceanShark and I have been taking a bit of a break before we get back to the work of sorting through a cast and a plotline, but we're about to get busy again and we'd love to have you working with us if you'd be interested.
Let me know.

we have a music pack on our site so you can hear hm music from the disks
That's pretty darn cool How hard is it to set that up? Cause much lag?
By the way, people who frequent this thread: Please take a moment to check out the other project I'm in charge of; we've finally got a WIP in thread (instead of just a mod suggestion thread). ZooCraftia (I'm still hoping for a better name, but for a working name it'll do for now) is an attempt to bring the basic mechanics of Zoo Tycoon into Minecraft, and so far it's proving to be an excellent fit!
We've got tons of animals and we're making headway on the "tagging" mechanic (tag a type of animal in the wild, then buy that species for your zoo). Biomes have been given more distinctive looks and feels, complete with biome-specific tree types such as the Umbrella Thorn Acacia and the upcoming Baobab, Weeping Willow, Baldcypress, Palm, and Madrone. Also in the works (and partially completed) are new types of fences and decorations, as well as zoo vendors who will sell snacks, treats, and souvenirs that fit the general feel of Minecraft (so no soda cans).
ZooCraftia's the project that's going the fastest, and I'm pretty excited about it. With any luck, Moontown here will also get to the point of having a WIP thread (about the time we develop a partial mod worth downloading), and then I'll have two in the works.
Now if only we got more interest over on the Decorative Gem Blocks mod... sigh. Still, two out of three ain't a bad start, seeing as these are my first ever mod projects that weren't just personal hobby stuff. Cheers!

Guess that falls under the heading of "things the project manager ought to be taking care of," which is to say, me. I'll see what I can do to clarify.
The biggest documentation of intentions we've got so far is this one. Obviously that's a long-term plan, and we're struggling over the short-term stuff at present. I confess I'm also a bit confused about how the project is going, and I'm not really sure how sites like Github work... I figure the coders will all congregate over there and I'll get updates now and then about how things are working.
If you'd like to take the Gem Mod in hand, Wotsit, you'd certainly be welcome to it. I've gone through a few coders now, one of whom had to leave but might sorta be back, two of whom expressed interest but never went anywhere with it... if you get to actually doing something with it, going somewhere useful with the concept, then I'd be glad to grant you Chief Coder rights, and if any of these other guys steps up to the plate again, they can be Secondary Coders. (I don't think that any major code has actually been created yet, so you'd be starting from scratch, which is better than trying to make sense of old code.)
We've developed a fair amount of the ideas for the mod as well as some of the item sprites and block textures. I'm sure if a coder starts making some headway we'll get our steam back up. The first thing to work on would be gem blocks that spawn underground, items you can get by mining them, the refining process (as discussed in the thread), and also the ability to make pearly, opaque gem panes that work like Glass Panes. All the rest of the stuff is secondary to that.

Hey! I'm Ian and I have worked with a few people on mods and indie games using java, if you're interested and still working on this i'd love to help! I usually don't get caught up in these mods, but I happen to be somewhat partial to Harvest Moon. Tell me what I can do, and if i find time, I suppose (If you know anything about java yourself) we could work together.

Give me a challenge, and I shall give you a solution.
The mod's still going, just going very slowly. We're not updating as much as I'd like, and if the rest of the team is talking behind-the-scenes then they're doing so in a form I'm not involved in. But so far I think it's not dead.
If you'd like to help out, and can put up with a slow-going mod, then explain your skills and I'll see where best to assign you. Bear in mind that I am rather busy lately and it may be some time before I get back to you.
