I have always liked the look of brick in Minecraft and thought that houses and other structures looked best made out of brick. (Also, brick is superior to wood in terms of blasssssssssssst resistance and the fact that brick can't catch on fire and burn.) Unfortunatly, clay is quite rare and large brick buildings are therefore very hard to make...
When water comes in contact with running (non-source) lava, cobblestone forms. However, there is very little need for an unlimited supply of cobblestone, seeing as smoothstone is so outrageously abundant...
We can solve both of the above "problems", it seems, by simply making the cobblestone-producing water+lava creation recipe (awesome, name, isn't it :smile.gif: ) into something that makes clay! If someone can make a mod that does this, I, and all fellow brick lovers, would be ever so grateful. I'd appreciate and feedback about this idea, as well as any modder agreeing to do this. Thank you, all, in advance!

I'd have to look into the code to see where this happens, but it seems possible.
Edit: It's an easy fix as long as you're not looking for it to be a ModLoader mod. It does rewrite "BlockFluid". I can change it really quickly and post a link to the modified class file if you like?
I had a mod back in Beta 1.8.1, but I quit for a while so it hasn't been updated since then. WTF <-- If you'd like to try and update it, let me know. (It won't be an easy task, I'm sure)

These aren't quite what you are looking for but I am maintaining 2 mods related to clay generation/production originally created by ChocolateSyrup. The thread is here, look for the following 2 mods in it:
Clay Sieve: You can create a new interactive block that allows you to transform dirt into clay blocks through the use of water and heat (see specific details inside).
Clay Deposits: Allows clay to generate anywhere in the world with configurable group size and frequency (defaults are following iron).
The change you are thinking of making would be possible, I just wanted to point out some alternatives that I knew of.
I'd have to look into the code to see where this happens, but it seems possible.

If you can do that, it would be great. ModLoader compatibility would be desirable, but not necessary. I eagerly await the modified class file. :smile.gif:

Thank you so much, this is incredibly awesome of you. However, I would like to ask you if you can just post a picture or two or even a short video (at your earliest convenience, I know these can take time) so that I can verify that it isn't a virus. I hope I don't sound accusational, because I greatly appreciate what you have done, I just would like to verify the link's authenticity and make sure my computer is safe before downloading :smile.gif:. Thanks!

Lol alright. Give me a minute and I'll take some screenshots. Gotta go get my InvEdit on.

Edit2: I could even post the source if you like, it was literally just switching one BlockID out for another. :]
Thank you so much, I greatly appreciate what you have done. I'm going to try it out now. Once again, thanks!
Edit: I downloaded a completely new copy of minecraft, deleted the META-INF file, and moved the .class file into my minecraft.jar. However, when I go to play minecraft, it stalls at the done loading screen with the green bar across it. Do you have any idea why this is happening and what I could do to fix it?
Edit 2: My computer is a mac, not a P.C., would that have any affect on this whatsoever? (I know it's doubtful, but I figured I'd tell you, in case it is an important factor.)

I tried to play on another account that does have other mods, but it didn't work, the screen lagged at the same spot. I also tried installing a new mod on a different account, and, again, my screen stayed at this point in each of these instances, I left my screen up for a few hours to see if there was any change in what happened. I would greatly appreciate any insight you can give on how to fix this problem. Thanks!
P.S. I'm aware that I bumped this, but I'm becoming somewhat desparate

Odd... Are you using 1.7.3? It worked fine when I tested it in MCP, but I can try looking again later. I have homework that I have to do tonight, though. Could you PM me with this?

I don't actually know how to send a pm, but I can say that I'm using 1.7.3

I downloaded the file I uploaded and tried it. It didn't work for me either. It must be the fact that I recompiled and re-obfuscated it in the folder where all of my other mods are kept.

Thank you very much, again :smile.gif: I'm currently on a smart phone and I won't be able to verify that it works until I return from a short vacation (tomarrow), but I'm very grateful for you doing this for me again :smile.gif:

Lol, it's my fault for screwing it up the first time. :tongue.gif: That's what I get for not testing it correctly.

Darn, it turns out that I won't arrived home, and be able to try out the adjusted mod, until Monday. :sad.gif:
Alright, just let me know if you have any problems.

I downloaded the file and copied into a new minecraft.jar, and I started my game, but clay wasn't produced from the water coming in contact with running lava. I noticed that the file's name is ClayGen.rar, which is very different from the .class files I'm used to, so I may have downloaded it incorrectly, seeing as I used the .class file method of downloading it.
On a more positive note, I was able to play minecraft, the game didn't stall at the loading screen :smile.gif:

You need to use a program like 7zip or WinRAR to extract the files zipped inside ClayGen.rar.

How would I get one of these programs? (I'm on a mac.)

What's up? I'm the proud co-owner of a little ClassiCube server called Minebuild.
