DETAILS
Holding a lit lantern will illuminate your surroundings
Other players holding a lantern will illuminate their surroundings
Mobs holding a lit lantern will illuminate their surroundings
Lit lanterns dropped in the world will illuminate their surroundings
Hooks can be placed on ceilings or walls
Lanterns can be placed on the ground or hung on hooks
Lanterns (held or set down) can be turned on or shut off by right-clicking. If you are in survival mode, the lantern must have fuel to be lit up. In addition to that, you must be carrying a tinderbox and an igniter (torches, flint and steel, etc.; additional igniters can be set in the config). A tinderbox with firesteel acts as both the tinderbox and an igniter. If you are in creative mode, you do not need any of those.
Villager priests and librarians spawn with lanterns (This can be disabled in the config). During the day, they shut off their lanterns. At night, they turn them on.

*Shapeless recipe
Lanterns must always be in the top left spot
Bottled fat gives three (3) times the fuel fat gives
Lantern oil by default gives a day's worth of fuel to a lantern
*Since some other mods use the same recipe there is an option in the config file to disable this recipe
Additional items to consider as tinder can be set in the config
If the empty tinderbox recipe is disabled, the following will work:
Although there are similar mods out there I encourage you to keep developing the mod. Think of ways to add different things those other mods don't have or ways to improve on their designs. A little competition is good.
I like that the spotlight only lights up the area a head of you and where you're looking while holding. However when you set it down or drop it, it still lights the the same amount of area around it like a normal lantern would. Personally I think at least when placed it should only light the area in the direction it's pointing.
I know the spotlights are new and doing that might be asking a lot but that's just my thoughts.
And trying to get it to only light the area it's pointing in when dropped is really asking a lot since it would be rotating. However combine the spotlight glass bell from EE3 and that would be a really cool effect. It would be like a mini lighthouse.
thanks!:) you missed out on the spotlights, but i guess that's my bad. i haven't had the time to put all the details in the main post yet. the difference of the spotlight is that it lights up the spot you're looking at rather than the spot you're standing on.

my bad, still have to fix the page up. check the top of the recipe section above for the spotlight recipe. and thanks! i did think about making the spotlight do something like the flood lights from greg's lighting, but it required me to make a new invisible block for light and stuff. and i was lazy haha so i decided to just leave it for some other time. maybe in the updates about the glass bell thing, i've never actually used ee3 so i don't really know what you're talking about. i'll check the mod out over the weekend
The glass bell is basically a thing you can put items in. Combine that with the fact that Unlit Torches can still give off light when dropped, then you have a way to protect torches from mobs putting them out and from getting wet.

BUG REPORT: When i set survival mode and try lit empty lantern wit right clicking (in hand item designed by config - tinderbox with firesteel), then i just create fire at my foot. When i set creative mode, all is fine (lantern flash for a moment, but not lit).
BUG REPORT: Some bugs with metadata (?) when I use plugins like SignChestShop. I put in shop normal lantern, but its change to eternal. No other mod have this bug.
Oh, and one more thing - add some cool sound for fill lantern (A gurgle of fluid in metal cans or something like that)
bug1: sounds exactly like it simply didn't have fuel.
Can you allow us the ability to select what can work as lantern oil and how much it gives? For instance, I want to use Railcraft's Creosote Oil since creosote oil has been used historically for fueling lanterns.

i'll most likely add that in a future update probably the one after next
the only reason i haven't updated my mods to 1.7 is because i'm waiting for forge to fix a bug on their end. if forge updates to 1.8 before the bug is fixed, i might skip to 1.8 as well. so it depends on forge fixing the bug soon or me deciding to make a 1.7 version even if it isn't fixed.
Download link for mod no longer functions. Have you given up maintaining this in favor of your unlit torches mod?
no, curseforge, the site the files were hosted on, deleted my project because it "needed a logo" instead of just temporarily locking it or something. makes me want to curse...forge. ha. getit? ha. ha. anyway, i'll be uploading an update after i get the project reapproved on curseforge. for now, just download the files through the mirror. the link is right beside the main download link.

Any chance you could upload a mirror for the new version? Curse are notoriously slow to deal with these kinds of things and I'd rather like to try your new unlit torches version with lanterns.

Yeah, it happened to me, I tried removing it, no crash, so I posted here to make sure it wasn't just on my end. Any news on when this should be fixed?
nope, sorry about that. was supposed to upload v1.1.0 along with the updates for pcl and unlit torch, but delayed because of the curseforge thing i mentioned above. i uploaded the update in the mirror. it will work with pcl2.1.0
Cool! Only issue I've noticed so far is that this new version seems a bit laggier than the previous. Especially outdoors where walking around with a lit lantern drops my fps from ~70 to ~20.

sounds interesting. i'll look into it
bug1: sounds exactly like it simply didn't have fuel.
bug2: i'll look into it
If so what is it? I'm guessing 32000 based on the other options in the config.
yes, minimum of 1 and maximum of 32000

Kill two stones with one bird whenever possible
Nope. Just tried it myself and it crashed with pcl2.1.0 and lanterns 1.0.0 installed.
