Hey Mithion you down for a game of 20 questions? Cearly I don't expect to need to ask that many questions and I don't want to go ruining the fun for anyone else but a couple leads wouldn't hurt. A friend and I are currently at trying to figure this out and I've been, in my free time, at this since am2's release based off what I think to be your in game hints. Does the method of bringing forth your great creation involve a spell created with the same rules of the silver spell shapes?
Oh man, I'm not good at this lol...hopefully this isn't too much of a giveaway:
While silver spells are certain grammar, This one too applauds. Take the one spawned by a feather, And writ it to maraud.
You'll need imbuements of true power: and agility unsurpassed. A rule of four will be your partner, To reach your goal at last.
I noticed the spell starstorm(starstorm? star something. I forgot) is created at height limit, so if there is a block anyhwhere in the world, it shields all things underneath it from that spell. And I play on a map where the entire sky is covered, so.... Is there a way to change it so the spell is created lower? (like, 8~10 blocks below height limit?) Also, is there a spell that can make a block think that it's exposed to the sky when it's not?
That's part of the drawback to the spell - to call down a star, you need to see the sky. There are several other spells that can help you if starstrike isn't immediately available.
hey. a few things. the bug isn't important, but I will sneak it in here anyways. I can't make water essences.
now that that's over, I would like to know how exactly you "infuse the armor with XP" as the compendium (you should know, you wrote it) doesn't tell you how. thanks.

*Villager Noise* That's explained, in the book, to not be a current feature. I don't know when this'll be implemented, but I'd guess 1.2.
You should make more riddles to explain magical components, Mithion, seeing as how Wizards are supposed to be clever, and riddles are a good way of making you clever. I'm not that clever, however, so the only thing I got out of it was that it'd be a summon chicken spell, with speed and some sort of damage. I don't understand the rest, or how to add damage to a chicken, though.

Wait, so the damage modifier increases the damage on summons? :0 I wish I'd known this before; collecting the essence of dark magi takes quite a while.

I can't load the crafting altar with essence. I right click the source block of the essence (a battery) with a crystal wrench and the light pillar shoots out, then I right click the middle top block of the crafting altar and the lightpillar dissapears. But every time i try to use essence it just doesn't work. Some times it won't even connect.
you are hitting the lever after you bind the battery to the altar? because that's what actually allows the altar block to charge.
So, suggestion. Would it be possible to implement a Sigil of Lightning Attraction, or something to that nature? I love playing a lightning mage, and I love the tension that comes from stepping outside while it's raining resulting in up to three lightning bolts a second. The only problem is that I like to build houses/wizard towers that look like this: . Lightning seems to completely ignore any transparent blocks, including magic walls, which means that if I step out from under the (hastily added) quartz canopy, I instantly get pummelled by lightning. I really don't want to have to do the equivalent of boarding up the tower's windows to accomodate for it, as I like how it looks, and several other players beside me use it too. To that end, i'd love it if it were possible to build a lightning rod-esque device which attracts lightning to itself rather than hitting the player within a certain radius. You could make it fairly expensive to prevent the player from just littering them everywhere, and it would mean that a lightning mage could have a lot more options regarding where they want to live. Also, having lightning continuously striking rods around your house would look undeniably badass.

Assigning things for a mana battery to charge with the crystal wrench currently seems to be bugged. I reported it earlier. that said, if you break the altar block and replace it while there is a mana battery in range, the altar will default to using it as it's power source. Just remember to hit the lever when it asks for essence.
How's the overhaul coming, Mithion? Not trying to rush you or anything, just curious and eager to start testing it out. Any chance for some more teaser videos?
Caster isn't working with projectile and touch spells... But beams work fine. I didn't tested with 1.1.2b, but as the changelogs don't say nothing about fixing caster blocks...
So, about the beam rendering bug ( I don't want to upgrade to 1.1.2b again, so I'll try to describe, it only occurs on that version, 1.1.2 is normal )...
It's that way: you fire one beam, and it WORKS well, but the VISUAL beam doesn't hit where you aimed, but in the ground under you...
Huh...I think. If that wasn't me testing beams with gravity :P.
I'm removing the caster in 1.2, it's not working the way I want it to, and doesn't work at all with the new spell changes (both balance and functioning). I will potentially add it back in a later update.
Aww. Perhaps you could hire villagers to recite the spells, instead of using a machine.
By the way, we never did find out why the mod is called Ars Magica. Is it because it's based off of the game, or because you liked the name but it was already taken by the game?
No, like the hired help using a staff or something. I'm pretty sure that Wizards don't come in covens, although I suppose there could be houses, seeing as how there are already two factions.
Originally I hadn't even heard of the tabletop RPG, Ars Magica and just did an english to latin translation on the phrase "The Art of Magic".
After the mod started gaining some popularity, I was contacted by the President of Atlas Games, who asked me to change the name.
He stated that Atlas games is very friendly towards freely distributed content referencing their game, but my mod at the time shared nothing but the name with the tabletop, and he was worried that with the rate the mod was gaining popularity, that there would be some confusion.
He was working with a gentleman from Black Chicken studios, who had an idea: take some of the aspects of the tabletop game into my mod, making the mod more similar to the tabletop so it is at least tied in some way other than name. I wanted to make sure that I still had my creative freedom to do what I wanted, even if it differed from the game though.
We did a quick back and forth to agree on what parts of the tabletop I would include, and went from there.
He agreed to this, and I was given trademark access to the name and the tabletop's content, as long as I include a link back to their site, which I have done ever since. All in all, it was a very positive experience, and I would have nothing but good things to say about their company.
Then, I started working on Ars Magica 2, whose spell creation system is heavily based on the spell system from the tabletop - basically you can do almost anything you want, and shape it to your needs. I still have a copy of their 4th edition rule book, and I refer to it from time to time for ideas. Both to ensure that the link I agreed to is maintained, and they have some really cool stuff in there!
I admit though, I still haven't played the tabletop in a traditional setting, but that would be fun to do at some point. Who's up for a game?

try the "damage" modifier
I am not sure, but it's worth a shot

Sigils are going away in favor of the flicker system.
But there might be methods in the future to help you out with your little lightning problem...
There will be at least one more preview video before the release.
