See, it's people like you that completely miss the point. You should probably go and look up the concept of "feedback" before wasting everyone's time with pointless dismissals like this.
I agree with you here, which is why I resisted the temptation to say "You obviously don't like Thaumcraft, why are you even posting?" So, to be clear, I disagree with LordEric here. You obviously like something about Thaumcraft but dislike some of the decisions which may or may not be core design concepts.
The problem is that your discussion style is overly aggressive, unnecessarily dismissive of others, fails to acknowledge an entire thread worth of discussion, but focuses the entire single-threaded discussion on what you want to talk about. From the moment you entered the thread you have centered the discussion around your perspective.
It's not even that your thoughts don't have merit, it's that when we're stuck with a single-threaded discussion and you reiterate the same complaints that have already been addressed, in many cases by Azanor himself, and you fail to acknowledge that prior discussion (Like that pipes were nerfed for both game balance and server load reasons) you are not contributing positively to the thread, you are derailing it into your personal rantzone.
So basically you misunderstood something, got upset about it and decided to act like an ass. Class act.
I did not claim your problem was with complexity. You are doing *exactly* what you acuse me of here, although I'll acknowledge I did decide to act like an ass.
In my original respons I addressed a number of complaints you made about the essentia system. In the post which you quoted, in which I was responding to somebody who misunderstood me because I made the error of using sarcasm on the internet, I mentioned that you seemed to be ignoring that on this thread and elsewhere there have been essentia systems demonstrated of a *variety* of complexities. That is, some are extremely complex and redstone-heavy, some are simple alumentum machines, and some are in between, such as the automated breeder with useful outputs Auric posted, in the post I was responding to when you quoted me.
Every dismissal of my view on TC4's current problems has had the same core issue, none of you really bothered to verify your own limited assessment of my intent, you seem to assume I'm just complaining for it's own sake, which doesn't even make any sense.
Nah, it's clear you don't like something about TC4 and you're complaining because you hope it will change. I *disagree* with your view. I dismiss your contributions to the thread because they are annoying and unproductive.
. I spent 2+ hours on a rube goldberg system to turn netherrack into the ingredients required for nitor or alumentum, Forbidden Magic adds an aspect that allows that, and it's honestly one of the most fun things I played with on my world. I could've just used coal and be done with it, but I wanted to experiment.
This is why I use Railcraft for all of my item transport and so on. It gives way more of a feeling of accomplishment (and looks way cooler) than using something like AE.
Speaking of, just wanted to throw my vote out there for pipes staying as they are, having a lot of fun making giant crazy looking builds with them. Way more interesting than having them be the AE of essentia, like they were before. Obviously some people will complain when everything isn't dirt-to-diamonds easymode, but I greatly respect you, Azanor, for sticking to your guns on this.
Well, I think I figured out my problem with running out of aspect and how to fix it. Since I was playing with default RR mod pack, it had its soft cap set to 8 and hard cap set to 64.. since I haven't played MC in about 4 months I wasn't aware there was even a cap, so I proceeding to do what I always did for TC research.. build a AE system, mass mine using a quarry, and collect 100's of items to scan in one sitting to build a "pool" of aspects.. well, since I was unaware of the "caps" apparently I wasted so many aspects....
I have since reset the server and set the caps to 64 soft and 640 hard... hopefully this will allow me to play the way I normally do without loosing aspects to some "cap"... So "take 2" ... I'll be back in a day or so to complain if I run out of aspects again.

Well, I think the "Soft cap" you mentioned is how many points per aspect you can get per item(Was put in place to balance mod item. You could get a crazy amount of points from one). The "Hard cap" you mentioned is probably the aspect cap(If you have more then this, all items are worth less research points.) If you don't go over the soft cap, you'll be fine. I've never needed to tweak this in the config.

if that gives the world a purple tint while wearing the goggles, please no.
it may sound cool now, but it would be really anoying really fast.
I agree with this, and purple is my favorite color. : / If Azanor adds an option to dye the lenses with purple dye to make them give the world a purple tint, that's a happy middle ground, but don't default it to worldwide purple tint while wearing the goggles.
Azanor, 1.7, goggles of revealing, purple shader.
Minecraft 1.7 has shaders, so another idea for 1.7 update.
This sounds pretty neat, however it HAS to be a config option defaulted to off if implemented. Sure, it sounds like a cool idea, but I'm sure the purple tint would get old after a while.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
Is it possible to get a golem to take the finished product from a vanilla furnace? I can get them to place or remove items from the top and bottom slots but I've tried many different ways and I can never get them to take from the right-hand (finished product) slot.
- At this point, is it productive to manually remove the taint? Or will more still spawn?
- Is there some easily movable version of taint that I can save and... "free" later? End game I feel like surrounding my floating castle with tainted land would be fun
It's my understanding that there is a config options you'll want to look at.
# The chance per block update (1 in n) of the Taint biome spreading. Setting it to 0 prevents the spread of Taint biomes.
I:biome_taint_spread=0
There is a difference between tainted land (the biome) which spreads only if this is true, or if a tainted animal spreads it, or if a node gets infected, and fibrous taint (the vine-like block that spreads on the surfaces in those biomes).
If the biome can spread, you'll probably want to wall it in with blooms until you are ready to play.
Otherwise, you can attack the contents of the biome. See
It is possible to play this, and win, even in non-creative. The only hint I will give you: Try to figure out how to section the tainted region into parts, so you can clean out one part, and not have to worry about going back to it later.
I know of at least two confirmed, and one more not yet confirmed (geography dependent) ways to do this. Come up with something else.
Note that once you have it "tamed", and confined, you can leave it for later fun. Make sure that passive mobs can't accidentally be converted by it, or they might either spread fibrous taint or tainted land, or both (tainted sheep grazing is confirmed to do both).
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
I can confirm that the tainted lands biome dose NOT spread by itself. Because I had a lack of magical biomes I resorted to using a tainted node to created the biome for farming mana beans. I sealed the node in a jar and removed all fibrous taint. The biome has not grown in the slightest.

Does Thaumcraft 4 work for Minecraft 1.7? I've researched and, to no end, I haven't found my answer, so I'm using this forum as a last resort to defer spam questions.

I'll not devolve this thread in an argument between the two of us, but let me just finish by saying that my core goal was never to "complain" but rather to explain the problem as I encountered it, hoping to establish perspective with which to create a fitting solution.
I'll agree to drop it rather than devolve the thread, I'll just join you in leaving a parting thought: that's exactly what I understood your core goal to be, and I thought I was rather clear in that.
You obviously like something about Thaumcraft but dislike some of the decisions which may or may not be core design concepts.
...
Nah, it's clear you don't like something about TC4 and you're complaining because you hope it will change.
Is this where I can suggest things? If so, I think that thaumcraft 4 should have some sort of taint weapon, as it would be cool. Currently, taint is just a setback that you just occasionally have to push away with silver wood trees or ethereal blooms, but I think in some way, you should be able to control it. As a thaumaturge, it would be really awesome control the evil.
Has anybody had problems with not being able to change your elevation with the Thaumostatic Harness? I can turn it on and move around just fine, but I'm 'stuck' on the same Y axis until I turn it off.
I'm using version 4.1.0e on a server with many other mods and I can't figure out if Thaumcraft is bugged or one of the other mods is breaking it. Server flying is enabled, my hotkeys don't appear to be conflicting, and a regular IC2 jetpack works just fine. I can see that version 4.1.0f fixed some bugs but specifics aren't listed.
Any help is appreciated!
Edit: Updated the server+local mod to 4.1.0g and the problem is still persisting.
Harness flight is now creative flight, so pressing space moves you up and holding shift takes you down. I haven't had any troubles so... can I just do a quick "no offense meant" check, you have definetly got a jar of potentia in it?
Oh yes of course, I can activate it and float and move around just fine, I just cannot move up or down. Pressing space does nothing and ctrl (my crouch is bound to ctrl) just makes me crouch in the air.
edit: Just to try all options, I rebound crouch to shift and that didn't fix it.
Sorry I don't really know what to suggest. You said you were playing on a server so have you asked anyone else if they are having that issue as well?
It's just a few friends, not a big server. I spawned in some potentia jars and a harness for another op and he couldn't move up/down either.
At this point I'm almost certain it's a conflicting mod, but I can't figure out which. The only ones related to Thaumcraft are Thaumatic Tinkerer and Ex Aliquo that added some sky alchemy stuff.
You are absolutely correct about this and I am hoping to address this in the next update.
Could there potentially be a way to, say... polish, or purify Amber to get the old TC3 amber?
A way to acquire the old, brown, Arcane Wood Blocks for aesthetics? I loved those things as a floor.
Any chance of there being more uses for the various primal shards, on top of perhaps new ways to acquire them?
Primal crystal solid blocks that aren't clusters?
Primal crystal trees?

Alright, so, I recall this being a problem earlier, but I'd thought it fixed (in fact I there was some discussion along those lines a while back) so I'm assuming that something is wrong on my end, however I'm not qualified to read these reports and get anything truly meaningful out of them.

after some googling I found that it had to do with a player having too much research data saved on their character, however all the reports of this were literally months old (like, almost a full 200 pages back on this forum) and I swear I read somewhere that it was fixed in 4.1.0. So I can only assume that we've got something weird going on on our end. If you see anything like that in here, please let us know.
(the actual problem was that the player had scanned too many nodes (over 1000) I cut out about half of them and the size of his file dropped by 4kb, I'm going to tell him to just stop scanning nodes.)

after some googling I found that it had to do with a player having too much research data saved on their character, however all the reports of this were literally months old (like, almost a full 200 pages back on this forum) and I swear I read somewhere that it was fixed in 4.1.0.
