I am having a very strange bug, and as I haven't been able to find it on the Net, I'm posting it here.
I am playing a custom modpack that includes Thaumcraft, the latest version as of the time of this post. However, for at least two or three versions back I have a problem with some aspects, namely, Alienis and Humanus. As I recall from youtube videos and numerous cheatsheets, Alienis must be present in enderpearls, Humanus - in rotten flesh. If I scan this items, I get "Nothing can be learned" for Ender Pearls and Tellum and Herba (?!) for Rotten Flesh. Any help would be much appreciated.
What mods are you using? Dose anything show up in the console that could maybe be related to this?

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
I think I have found a little bug dealing with vis discounts due to wand caps. It seems that when I am crafting stuff in the arcane worktable using a thaumium cap wand the vis discount because of the wand caps is not applied unless I take the wand focus out. This also affects the vis cost when using wand foci.
The addon Forbidden Magic has an Orichalcum Studded Cosmic Neutronium Wand that has a negative Vis usage, causing it to actually gain Vis when used. It's meant for "creative shenanigans". Let's just say I put it to it's intended use very well :3
It's actually 0% vis usage. Wearing vis discount gear such as goggles makes it go down into the negatives. All of which is a moot point since the wand core refills itself to maximum every tick.

Then enchantments on a focus make an effect in crafting too. Potency will increase the cost and frugal will reduce it. Unless the focus you had was unenchanted, it's not a bug.

Really? Well that's interesting to know. Looking back at the focus I had equipped, it does have Potency III on it which explains that added vis usage. Guess I'll be crafting with my Frugal III focus of dislocation from now on!

Were you by chance experiencing Nausea or Flux Taint when you scanned them? Both of those scramble your aspect displays, and sometimes they glitch and don't technically go away when the effect ends.

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!

No and no. In the most recent world I played I have yet to experience any of these.

That happens with any potion effect, not just flux taint or nausea. I never reported the issue as I had optifine when I first noticed it. I'm unsure if it occurs without optifine as I've never bothered to test it.
Forge Multipart, BiomesOPlenty, Buildcraft, Extrabiomes, Natura, Twilight Forest, Ars Magics, Applied Energistics, Chickenbones' mods, Computer Craft, Forestry, IndustrialCraft, MFR, MPS, Mystcraft, Open Mods (i.e. Open Blocks & Open Periherals), Railcraft, TCon, TMech, Thaumcraft, BibilioCraft & addons, Binnies Mods, Compact Solars, Compact Windmills, Evoc, Extra Cells, Extra Utilities, Flatsigns, Iron Chests, JABBA, LogisticsPipes, Magic Bees, GraviSuite, MystNEI Plugin, NEI Addons, NEI Plugins, Obsidian Plates, Opis, Thaumic Tinkerer (KAMI enabled), Waila.
As I do not have the debug console open, I don't see anything. As I do not get a crash or see it after I exit, I suppose all went well.

Try playing with the console open. Sometimes it can show an error or warning that doesn't result in a crash. Let us know if you find anything that could be related to the problem.
Azanor I just realized that you put the letters on the end of your version numbers.... Isn't the reason for the 3rd number so that you can identify small updates usually bugfixes etc which is what you appear to use the letters for... therefore 4.1.0g would technically be 4.1.7.... or am I wrong in the meaning of the 3rd number?
Hey, what's the optimal vanilla/Thaumcraft armor combination (in terms of resistance to dying) ?
Right now, I've got a diamond chestplate with prot IV, runic goggles of revealing, runic leggings with emergency shielding, and boots of the traveler with protection IV, feather falling IV, and haste III.
Is there a stronger combination? Note that any combination that lacks the speed boost of the traveler boots or goggles of revealing doesn't count. Also, any mods other than TC3 do not count, either.

Right now I've got runic goggles and boots of the traveler that both have the faster regen upgrade. For my chest and legs I've got unenchanted robes of the thaumaturge (same defence as leather armor). For me this is more then enough standard protection. For a boss though... I'm unsure.
It's not often my shielding is even broken. In the few times it is my runic boots of the traveler can get me out of most dangerous situations.

There's no real standard for version numbers. Azanor seems to be doing a "Rewrites.Major Version.Minor Version", which is pretty normal, but he's not counting hotfixes as minor versions, so he's just using letters at the end to keep track of them.

I can confirm this happens to me too, with or without Optifine loaded. Also affects the display when you hold shift and mouse-over an item. Happens with any potion effect, including any effects you get from beacons or armour.
The problem seems to appear as soon as the effect icon shows up in the inventory, as soon as the icon goes, the aspects display correctly.

I'll take screenshot and post it to github later if no one else has by then.

Unless the recipe clearly shows an item at all damage levels, it needs to be a fresh, undamaged item. I also had this problem with making the KAMI leggings from Thaumatic Tinkerer. The fire resistance potion had to be a fresh one, apparently using glowstone on my 8 minute potions to bring them back to 3 minutes doesn't result in exactly the same potion lol
I'm trying to infuse repair on my damaged harness, but despite having tried time and time again...no joy.
Edit: Hmmm, it worked just fine in Creative with a damaged harness. Might be more levels required.
The harness already has:-
Protection IV
Haste III
Unbreaking III
Sitting on 42 at the moment, but I suspect this is going to be EXPENSIVE, lol
Edit 2: Hmmm, repair I is 6 levels + 10% x 10 (other enchantments) should be 12 levels...no?
(I have essentia coming out of my ears, that's not it, as it won't even start drawing my XP)
/puzzled
Or is it limited to 3 enchantments? A couple of my other T4 items have 4.
Thanks.
the problem is the unbreaking enchant.
repair checks for unbreaking, but not the other way round.
you can enchant an item with unbreaking, when it already has repair, but you cant enchant it with repair when it already has unbreaking.
really, since its possible to enchant both on one item anyways, and both enchants are actually needed on a pick of the core for an arcane bore with a width of 11, to run a complete cycle, i think both enchants should just be allowed on the same item in any case.

otherwise it just gets confusing.
or..... the enchantment could simply be removed and we get a new method of repair? Infusion repairing anyone? I know, I know... you don't like that reply.
I just discovered an interesting bug. The scanning of runic leggings (and likely the rest of the runic suit) resets whenever you log out. This means that you can get unlimited free research for its aspects because you can scan it, log out, log in and scan it again.
