Ah, just checked Pyro out. I think I may start using as well. Seems that it will save me quite a bit of time. I just added a massive ship (7000-8000 blocks) in less than an hour. It still requires editing a lot, but it should save me a lot of time. Thanks again!
Also just wanted to mention...looking at the pic reminded me that once the file is set up correctly using coolAlias' tool/utility you can randomize the orientation as well so that all the ships will face different directions. Would add a bit of realism to the generation.

That's the main reason coolAlias' tool looks good for me. I actually coded the rotation for the 4 base ships already (took forever for the schooner). Using coolAlias' tool would cut down on the classes I need to use. Once I start adding larger ships, I will probably have to use it unless I want 20 or more classes for a single ship model.
BTW have you thought of adding a config option for ship/gen spacing? I am noticing areas that have 3 ships very close to each other and such.
I have thought about doing so. With the coding I hadn't gotten a huge amount of time to play except to test that everything generates correctly. I finally loaded up a world a couple days ago and proceeded to find 3 sloops and 4 schooners in one area after searching for less than 5 minutes. I don't mind if they clump together every once and a while...but that was a bit ridiculous. After a bit of research, looks like I can prevent ships from spawning inside one another completely, as well as prevent them from spawning so close to one another. Looks like I have my next project!
I don't know if it will help, but Ars Magica has a spacing/ gen /regen code and config. Maybe the author will help or even give you some code to use if you ask him.

Thanks for the tip. I've improved the generation a bit (they still form in clusters), but I am still working on it. Once I run out of ideas I may ask for some help, but right now I am enjoying the challenge.

Credit for the ship design goes to reddit user MCElex. Expect his designs to be used in most (if not all) of my future ships (with some slight modifications).
wow...epic ship man...I also use coral reefs mod so with those two together it makes oceans into something intersesting...
A little help if possible. Using either Better world generation 4 or Terrafirmacraft the ships will not appear. Any suggestions?
The survival island feature on BTW is perfect for this mod.

Unfortunately, as this mod works now, it won't be compatible with any mod that overwrites vanilla ocean and beach generation (just added that to the main post, didn't realize this was the case before).
However, the somewhat good news is that there isn't a fundamental incompatibility between the mods (I took out the biome check and shipwrecks start spawning everywhere).
I'm actually planning to start working on making this mod compatible with a few mods after my next update comes out and I will definitely add these two to the list to see if I can get them working.
I love the piranha idea you should have them be a mob to be catchable to put them in a aquarium as well as they r a formidable mob to stay away from. It would be cool if you added in the future undersea ruins and maybe a shark mob that you have to encounter to get the loots. Sharks in General would be awsome. I love the mod!!

Thanks. I like the aquarium idea, but it probably won't ever happen as there is too much I want to do before I would even start on it. Sharks will definitely be added at some point as Piranhas are fun, but I want a strong mob that can do some damage as well.
That said, I just released the newest version of the mod. The key features:
The wavreunner! A large ship, the largest so far by quite a bit!
The diving suit. A necessary addition. Wear this if you want to explore underwater without drowning.
The Piranha! A hostile underwater mob. It swims in schools. They may not do too much damage, but they can spawn in large (20+ fish) groups. Currently spawning is tied to the larger shipwrecks.

You are free to use it! I don't mind if people add this to modpacks as long as they give credit (and it looks as if you do that anyway).
They will spawn in any chunks that have not generated yet, however they will not spawn in any areas you have already explored.
