Great to see this mod getting upgraded from what I envisioned way back then. Your textures are ALOT better than mine, but I never claimed to be an artist. I love the idea of making it adjustable. If you are going to use a gui, can you make it so X fuel can remove Y number of blocks, and make the width and legnth adjusted accordingly? EX, coal can remove 1 block by 32 blocks, so it could be configured to do 9x3 (27 blocks) instead, Redstone does 9x32 (288 blocks), etc. Then maybe make options (like the aqua/lava tunnels reduce the overall stregnth of the beam by 50% or something?
As for alternate fuels, you could add emerald and maybe Lapis at a given stregnth? Maybe even Lava buckets (returning the bucket of course).
One last thing, can you add me to the list of credits as 'Original Idea by Melkson' or somesuch. It was my baby that Yiab brought to life, and you are polishing to something even bigger than I imagined. Great work.
If you are up to doing other mods, I'd love to see a 'Vending Machine' That sells various resources? Maybe only accepts gold nuggets, gold bars, and gold blocks, but sells things that players may want alot of (such as wood, iron, coal, diamonds, food?)
Again, great looking upgrades, and I can't wait until it's updated for the current version.
I could update the credits when I manage to get the new release working... Although I've hit a few dozen speedbumps in getting it from 1.4.7 to 1.5.x, I'm probably going to have to completely rewrite a majority of the code. Getting it from ML to FML on 1.4.7 was one thing, a few modifications here and there, the code changes required to make it run under 1.5.1 quickly outran my java coding abilities. I'd have had the upgrade completed sooner but work + life + Defiance + loooooooooooong string of other games kinda took control of my ADD.
Anyhow, I'm still working on getting it up and running for the newer version, apologies for the delay!
FYI - After a few attempts to 'upgrade' the mod to 1.5.2 I decided to do a clean rewrite from the ground up. It's in progress right now and I hope to have it ready before the next Pope is elected.
...are we ready to start punching some holes in the world?
Made a ton of progress today with the rewrite:
* Block direction faces away from player by default.
* Block and textures rotate when right-clicked without fuel.
* Fuel tests worked as expected.
What I'm working on right now are the 'special features' I added on towards the end of 1.4.7 development, aka being able to switch off what drops as well as being able to build bridges across and tunnels through lava and water. Beyond that though, I think we're just about ready for PML2.
Looking great, man! One suggestion regarding the fuel, atleast for redstone: It's incredibly plentiful for the results it produces in the laser. I think a new fuel item for that tier would be appropriate. Maybe coal surrounded by 8 redstone?

I'll take it into consideration... Maybe I'll be a jerk and force it to run on emeralds.... Just kidding.................heh
There's a config file for it where you can adjust the parameters... I'll give the main post a once over before to make sure all my documentation is good.
Ok, update is complete. It is functionally equivalent to the 1.4.7 version with a few minor changes outlined in the OP. Apologies for taking so long with the update, I got caught up in a slew of other games and a massively increased workload so I didn't have the time to get it done. I pretty much rewrote the entire thing today, I don't believe there are any errors in it but if you hit any problems please let me know.
Also - if anyone knows how to update the topic of this post, that'd be cool too...

not sure whether or not that is a good thing..
No chickens were harmed in the test firing of PML2. Ground-up rewrite is progressing nicely...

is the blast distance/radius configurable?

Enjoy blowing holes through things, folks!
Haven't figured out how to yet, probably simpler than coding one of this mods but yeah...
Aaaaaaaaaaand I figured it out... LOL

I believe it was in the old one but fell through the cracks in the rewrite. I was just about to release a new version, I'll put that in before I do.
