I came up with this idea after a heated argument with my server admin regarding the effects of bedrock ceilings on beacons.
i think this tool would work nicely with TK since it goes out of it's way to make materials usable as beacon bases.
any way this tool is kinda a compromise between not allowing players to break bedrock but wanting beacons to work in cave worlds.
what this tool will do is when it is used on a bedrock ceiling it will replace any bedrock blocks above it with bedrock lenses. these are unbreakable just like normal bedrock but have a glass lens in the center. This prevents players from accessing the void or the roof but these special bedrock lenses will appear as glass to any beacon below them allowing them to function properly within cave worlds.
after all manyullyn has a mining level so high it really is overkill for everything and this kinda justifies that ultra high mining level.

Or... you know... you could just place down a beacon in the nether because they work as long as the worldgen right above the beacon has not been altered by the player?
For the pickaxe, I typically make the head out of Manyullyn (longer durability) or cobalt (fastest mining speed), tool binding out of paper (gain an extra modifier) and handle out of Manyullyn (highest durability). The modifiers I put on it are Gold Block+Diamond (gain an extra modifier), Lava Crystal (auto-smelt), Moss (auto-regen), Emerald (durability x1.5), lapis (Fortune) and the rest into redstone (faster mining).
For the giant sword. Manyullyn blade and handle, paper large plates for the extra modifiers. x1 Necrotic Bone (Life Steal), x1 Piston (Knockback), and the remainder comprised of quartz for extra damage. You can add a diamond+gold block to add an extra modifier to it. A customized giant sword is a beast and tear through groups of enemies with ease.
So the binding or guard you use has no effect on the tool regarding to durability speed or damage? I can imagine if you bind a pickaxe head to a stick with paper in real life it won't be much good, but then again its minecraft : D. This is a very good tip, but only works for tools and weapons which actually use a binding or guard. For let's say a shovel or an axe it doesn't. But then again I don't think you really need so much modifiers on those. The first modifier I put on all my tools is a moss ball btw, so I don't need to bother about repairing it. That really sounds great to me!
Further more, on the auto smelting part, that could come in handy but if I smelt ores in the smeltery I have double ingots and can immediately create parts of it. How about the autosmelt modifier, do you get 1 ingot out of an ore? If so, then I don't think I'll use this modifier much.
I always go cobalt head, paper bindings, ardite rod, for any mining tool.
Reason being that adding a flux capicator at low durability keeps the ardite speed bonus, then add one modifier for silktouch/ lapis, and spam redstone on the tool.
Sword, get a manyulllen cleaver blade, paper binging, and cactus or thaumium guard, add repair( or flux once it is near broken), and stack up on quartz. 30+ damage hits, without exo armor/ potions of strength possible.
2014-02-11 06:35:24 [INFO] [TConstruct] [TConstruct] Natura, what are we going to do tomorrow night? 2014-02-11 06:35:24 [INFO] [TConstruct] [Natura] TConstruct, we're going to take over the world! still gets me every time XD
I just love this mod, now that I'm getting to know it! I don't think I want to play minecraft without it; once you go tinkers you never go back! It's so much more fun trying to collect all kinds of resources to make your own set of personalized tools that don't disappear! Rather then having a handfull of spare tools and swords that are just the same as everybody elses and take up precious inventory space.
This is what I am going after for now:
- Broadsword made out of Manyullyn with Paper Guard, modified with: Ball of Moss, Emerald, 450 Lapis, 144 Quartz & 25 Blaze Powder
- Pickaxe made out of Manyullyn with Paper Binding, modified with: Ball of Moss, Emerald, 450 Lapis, Obsidian Plate, 100 Redstone
- Shovel, Axe and Mattock made out of Manyullyn, modified with: Ball of Moss, Emerald.
I could customise these last tools further and I have some spare Manyullyn for other tools, so ideas for these are very welcome! Here are some diamonds for the modmaker and anyone that takes some time giving me tips do's and donts!
I would recommend putting on both additional modifiers modifiers (at the very end of the second materials and you book) then getting them both up reinforced levels (using obsidian tool rods and tool bindings to create your tools really helps) then get sharpness on the broadsword with quartz or haste on your pickaxe using redstone then slap a lava crystal (or silky gem if you really want silk touch) and lots of lapis on your pickaxe or lapis and fiery modifier (I don't know what material you'll need for it) on your sword, use the remaining slots for balls of moss for auto-repair
the remaining manyullyn can be used either to make a bow (try using flamestring instead of regular bowstring for fire arrows) or just make them into blocks to place around your base/house and show off just how amazingly boss you are
LOL @ Blocks of Manyullyn..... I've made my broadsword and pickaxe to all but the last bit (25 blaze powder and 50 redstone) as mentioned in the post above. I still need nether stars to get those last extra modifier slots.
I did run into something unexpected though. My sword had a 4 heart attack damage, so after adding 2x 72 quarts I'd expect it to have a 7 heart attack damage. However, it now had 6.5 heart attack damage. Is this a bug?
if you try to dig with a tool that has the flux upgrade while a TE3 flux capasitor charges you tool you can't dig any blocks until it if full
hope it helps

Vanilla bug/mechanic.
Every time the item you're holding changes (A pick with more charge is not the same pick as before), the game makes you reset any length of progress that you've mined on a block. This was changed at some point, to prevent switching picks to save on durability.
BUG:
for some reason, my smeltery will not output to my casting table, even though i set it up EXACTLY like the book and multiple tutorials have said to.
when I right-click on the faucet, nothing comes out. the only liquid that I was able to put in the casting table was glass, which isn't very useful to me.
I have seen that many other people have been having this smeltery-won't-drain problem.

To all those suggesting the use of Flux capacitors in Pickaxes and such, have you considered the fact that not everyone plays using technology-introducing mods such as Thermal Expansion? Take the Hexxit modpack for instance.
And as to your issues Lenyntaka, as long as you have Optifine installed, there are going to be issues with your Minecraft. Tinker's Construct is incompatible with Optifine, and likely always will be. As mDiyo has said, incompatibilities with Optifine aren't too much of a concern, and this is reasonable considering the fact that Optifine runs amock with its base class edits for rendering.
I'm running into a really bad lag problem with the Smeltery.
Whenever I pour liquids into a basin or a cast, my framerate gets jumpy and drops. For each time I use a basin or cast, it gets progressively worse. This lag persists after I'm done using the smeltery, even if I completely tear it down. I can only get rid of the lag by restarting the game entirely.
Has anyone else experienced this and gotten out of it?

A nice tool design that I've seen is an obsidian head (3 Reinforced) and the rest paper - then add 7 obsidian plates (you'll need to use an extra modifier) and you've got an obsidian level tool that can't get damaged (each level of Reinforced is 10% chance of not getting damaged - and once you've got level 10 that's 100% chance!) that leaves one possible modifier if you've got a nether star so you can still get luck/haste/sharpness/silky ect...

Unfortunately this only works with Tier 2 Tools.
It works with tier 1 tools as well if you use that nether star. And as a side note, if you have Thaumcraft, one of the paper you use could be replaced with Thaum for the same effect. "Best" choice for this is the head due to higher mining speed than obsidian

Have you considered that they are simply recommending an option from the mod and have not taken that into consideration because of the complete lack of parameters? If you have restrictions, list them.
Did you try uninstalling Optifine?
Careful now...
PM me if you ever need textures!

And if it's a mystcraft cave world, place down a beacon anyway to prove which one of you is right so the other can point and laugh?
Is there a way to disable floating islands? I don't see an option to do so.Nevermind,I found it.

TL;DR smeltery won't output anything (but glass) to casting table, annoying, please fix
VERSION - 1.5.2.6 & 1.5.3d3 (both in 1.6.4)
Most liquids also need an ingot cast. Make one the same way you'd make other casts ;D

Sorry to be that blunt, but it had to happen.
