hes not actively working on content for thaumcraft 3 anymore.
the thaumcraft 3 nodes being problematic, and constantly vanishing, was one of the reasons he wanted to give the mod another relaunch.
when he was already in the process of making content for the update (that later turned into an entire new version), he found out how to finish the problems with the nodes. its probably been bugging him, and i guess he wants to release a final stable version, for people who like thaumcraft 3 and want to keep playing the mod in mc 1.52, before he releases thaumcraft 4.
Basically this. I've recently also had several requests to fix that bug and one fellow even sent me some of the code I need to do it, so in the end I decided to just add the fix and be done with it. I might eventually take a look at some of the other bugs (like transmutations), but honestly that has very low priority for me atm.

Well that was nice of that fellow to send you some of the code! I'm sure it's grating/frustrating when you have everyone go "FIX DIS NAO" or "I WUNT UPDATE" and literally have no further contribution than that. I'm going to start trying (read: attempt) to get into some of the coding so I can at least do something for you folks that take all this time to make something great for the community!

He was making up for the dirt-to-diamonds comments by releasing a bugfix!
....ok so its unrelated, but its a funny thought hehe.
I can say that the majority of us are insanely eagerly awaiting this glorious spectacle of a mod.. whew!
OH MY, OH MY... that is TOO FANCY for words! So... remember when I said I was joking about giving us Thaumcraft 4 now? I lied. We want it now, now, NAO. (Still joking, I can wait, but MAN is it killing me now lol))
'Scuse me a moment, I'm overdo for my inner self fish-flop of anticipation ritual.
So I have a question for you guys: I've started adding the still outstanding TC 3 items into TC 4 - the portable hole specifically. I came to a realization however: the portable hole has been in since the days of TC 2 and is my (and some other peoples) favourite item. However with the new wand system it really ought to be a wand focus instead of a separate item. It will need vis to use and making it a focus makes a lot of sense.
I'm completely game for portable hoci, the fact that the wand is so hands-free (meaning you don't have to mess around with you rinventory or hotbar to much) is a huge boon to it and much appreciated. Not only that, but their's what, eighteen foci slots? Folks are expecting all of them to be filled at some point during Thaumcraft 4s life-span, so why not? :3
One of the beauties of portable holes is they are easy to use, and last a long time before breaking. (or can be fixed up not to break at all) As long as that functionality is kept, or the aspects cost is low-ish, I think being a wand focus would be neat. And would free an inventory slot. Perhaps the quality of the wand core could be a factor in determining how many blocks the focus can hole through.

Honestly, I'm torn. What is your opinion?
Depends,The wand focus should be nice and the system works like TC3(Use Vis to charge it).
But,if people likes the old feel(The portable hole ITEM)you could do it.
Nostagia aside,I would like to see how it looks in the wand focus system first.

One thing that could be done is infusing a wand with properties of the portable hole (seperate item that does nothing by itself, but needs to be combined with a wand). Then, lets say you shift+click with that wand, it creates the portable hole. If you really wanted to get fancy, make it even a seperate key binding, but at that point you may start delving into conflict territory.
I like it. I always had a problem with the Portable Hole, despite how cool it was, because I'd always have to find it in my inventory. If it were a focus that went in the focus pouch, then I'm all for it!
Two suggestions, though. Features for the wands. Will wands ever be able to drain vis from other wands, such as those dropped on the floor, as though they were an aura node? That would make it simpler and easier to stop using your old wand as soon as you get a new one. EDIT: It might also allow usage of old wands as a quick battery recharge if you're willing to put up with the extra inventory clutter...
With regards to foci, might there ever be a "quick focus" system that would allow you to jump to one or two specific foci and cycle through only those at the touch of a button without having to cycle through the whole list of foci?
And one last suggestion: Say I want to stick a wand with a Portable Hole foci, or just the foci itself, into a machine and have it cast the effect for, say, a real cool magical door. Would there be a way to either refill the wand, or power the machine with stored vis from nearby sources?
I think that the wand focus would be a very nice idea as long as it keeps the same mechanics.
Btw Azanor do you think that it will be possible to create a "controled taint biom", by that i mean a way to keep the biom from speading in a certain zone, like a basement, where you can harvest all the goodies without the fear of dooming you base?
Like they do with biospheres but not that complicated
Just saw the Infusion Crafting video. I only have one question Azanor, Why do you torture us like this? its like I have to relive my childhood again waiting for christmas.

I don't think anyone will mind it being a Foci, though this is just an assumption. So far all the wands have been converted into Foci and there haven't been any complaints but rather from what I've seen from the Forgecraft videos, people love it. I think as long as it's functionality stays the same, it'll be great as a Foci. Personally, I like the Foci and especially the Foci Pouch. It frees up inventory space, which will mostly likely be crowded with various other helpful trinkets, or have the "direwolf" or "soaryn" syndrome, heh.
Since it will have to have a Vis Cost, I'm curious at to what aspects it will use. I've seen a lot of different modes from Forgecraft videos, but I have yet to see on that had the "Ender" aspect in it (or maybe I have never seen it on video before). I forget the actual name of that aspect (Alienus or something?). And speaking of that, can I assume that there will be nodes in the End?
Anyway I digress, I just hope that it doesn't become too difficult to use the Portable Hole, but I'm totally for it being a Foci. I enjoyed my daring, magical escapes from TC dungeons and angry pigmen, heh.

I never felt like the portable hole was equatable to a wand. It always felt like a unique, useful thaumaturgical artifact that took a lot of effort to create (without going to The End). I suppose everyone's experience is different, but I rather liked having the portable hole as a separate item taking up space on my hotbar. If anything, I'd like to see its use reduced a bit. In TC3 once you made it you could put holes in things all day with nary a thought, I always felt like such an obviously powerful artifact should be using up more than a bit of vis.
So that's my opinion. Keep separate, maybe have it use up some aspects with each activation.
Public Mod Packs:
All mod packs I want to include Thaumcraft already have my permission. Only people I am personally acquainted with have any chance of me giving permission for their mod pack.
Currently these include:
- Feed the Beast
- AMCO
- SolitaryCraft
- Technologica
Personally, I'm all for making it a focus. For players like me who like having as open of an inventory as possible, this would be a great change. If I'm correct, wands can only make use of the 6 primal aspects, so I think the most logical cost for a portable hole foci would either be Entropy or a mixture of the primal aspects that gives ender/alienis.

Well, that's just lovely that is.
Will the runes on the base of the, erm, pillars pulsate purple as well? Perhaps as the infusion is taking place?

It's their, and you mix it with i think order to get magic o-o
