Found a curious bug; Apparently, if you destroy the block under the arcane pressure plate, it adamantly decides to stay in the air. I know it's supposed to be unbreakable, but within reason it should pop off. You should just make it break under that condition, and add a mention to the omnomicon about putting warded stone under it.

What makes you think I was ever being reasonable? I'm sitting here with a pile of guns while wearing a flamethrower, and you thought that, at some point, I was being reasonable?
If you reach far enough in research, you will find things that serve the first two functions.
I will spoiler the things that serve the functions in case you don't want to know what they are:
The auto defense is done by Iron Golems
There are wands that work for the ranged weapons. The lightning, fire and frost wand at least.
Never did figure out how the lightning works. The awesome graphics kind of makes it hard to determine how far it actually goes . . .

I never bothered killing any enemy but Wisps with it. I never tried to find the range. Simply right click at the target and see if they are hit or not. If they aren't, go closer, and repeat.

Lighting is easy! If you see a bolt, but your target doesn't get hit, get closer. Or wait a second, might just be getting there, since there is a travel time for the lighting arc. I reckon the range on it is about 50 blocks. Release ze magicks, and before your target could try to move, he/she/it/null is hit with a arc of lightning. Or rather, even if they move, they are hit with a arc of lighting. From your wand, not the dangerous sky type which burns everything and makes creepers OP. Creeper Killing Safety Guarantied!*
*Bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before. Safety is not guarantied.

I second the desire for a crucible heat source that won't burn down my house. I WAS living in one of those neat blue/purple topped towers from Ars Magica, the kind with LOTS of books on the walls. I replaced the ground floor with red stone brick (Extrabiomes) before installing my crucible down there, but apparently burning Netherrack is capable of igniting things more than two blocks away. NOW I'm living in a large, bare, stone test tube. *GRUMBLE*

I dig two blocks down. Lava, then on top of that the cauldron. Screw flux filters, real men don't miscount how much they need to create something./sarcasm
Actually my house is made of warded glass ATM. Just to throw bricks and laugh at other people. Because what're they gonna do? Throw a brick at my unbreakable glass house? Front door is actually a teleporter. Or rather, a Following Intra-age Linkbook. Same deal, once you get past the tons of diamonds it costs to make.
And I still use lava, but I do have flux filters, because they help get stuff I need. Netherrack is for people who don't have buckets of lava on hand.
In a nutshell, always protect the walls near the 'rack as well. Safety first, people, we don't need to call up Smokey the Bear, do we? Guy makes me feel nervous. I mean, I never signed up for that level of responsibility, and it's a lot of pressure knowing only I can stop forest fires.

This is a relatively new world, I haven't progressed to warded glass or suchlike. Heck, I only have 7 ages in my book chest!
Is it possible to somehow autofill your crucible? I tried using a RP2 pump, where the fluid pipe connected but didn't fill it. A deployer pushed the water right trough it.

As far as I know, the only autofiller that works on crucibles is native to Thaumcraft, and has to be researched.

Even without warded stuff, it's not hard to prevent fires in wooden buildings. Just move the possible fire source somewhere not made of wood! Super safe once you do that.
Also, only 7 ages? I usually have 15 before I get started on real stuff. I find plenty of Villages, and plenty of bookcases with Ars Magicka.

I am curious, would another source of Animus be viable (currently the Nether is off limits to me. Damned bug that shuts the server down inside the nether....) and collecting 10000000000s of wisp just isn't... reasonable.

tempting but you're still 300 too early and... the error was by someone doing something they shouldn't have been? or? just unsure if it's safe to upgrade to the latest is all.

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.

Other than Wispy Essence, the only sources of Animus I know of are:
Soul Sand (Nether)
Wither Skellie Skull (Nether) or
Ghast Tears. (youuuu guessed it..!)

BuildCraft pipes connect to the crucible, or at least used to in earlier TC3 versions.
I was unaware of that, because I don't normally use Buildcraft.
