Attention! The mod has been taken over by ChioriGreene and can be found here: http://minecraft.cur.../zap-apple-mod/. This thread contains outdated information about the mod and is only here for archival purposes.
This mod brings Zap Apples into the world of Minecraft. Yes, it is based off of the My Little Pony television series, but this mod was made to not only be used by those who watch the show, but by those who do not as well. As you explore new areas, you might stumble upon a peculiar purple tree, taller than the rest, and clothed with no leaves. If you observe the tree a while longer, you might began to see some strange things...New Content:Please note that I'm implementing a new way of making cakes soon, so there may be problems creating them now due to me dropping certain features to make room for new ones.Krinity helped with some of the textures, so hats off to her!
Zap Apple Sapling (Zappling): This sapling will grow a Zap Apple Tree.Zap Apple Leaves: They can drop Zap Apple Saplings, but when sheared they will drop themselves.Zap Apple Logs: Similar to normal logs, but are required for a Zap Apple Tree.Zap Apple Flowers: They will grow into Premature Zap Apples. You can shear them as well.Premature Zap Apple: Impossible to break, these gray blocks are the predecessors to Zap Apples. They don't taste good.Zap Apple: Upon eaten, they will give you some beneficial potion effects and will replenish your hunger notably.Jar: Used for putting Zap Apple Jam into.Zap Apple Jam: Made from right clicking on a Jar with a bucket of Zap Apple Jam.I've begun the process of industrializing, and that means having a liquid Zap Apple Jam! Right now you can get it from right clicking a full Jar with a bucket, and there's no use for it yet. It's compatible with the Forge LiquidAPI, so you can store it in BuildCraft tanks. You might also notice that there is Flour and a Dough liquid in the creative menu. They have no use now, but they will be used in the future to create the cakes and pies. Using wheat just wasn't going to cut it, so I've started to create more complex recipes. You'll find that Flour falls like sand (the falling texture is bugged and it looks like a sponge) and if it's next to water, it will turn into Dough.Industrial Cauldron: Compatible with the Forge LiquidAPI, this block can hold up to 4 buckets of any liquid. You can place them in groups of 4 as of right now, and they'll act like one big container, sharing the liquid with the cauldrons next to them. The texture is a work in progress, and I'll make it so that one side is glass and you can see the liquid inside. If you place a Zap Apple inside of a cauldron, you can jump on it 4 times and that Zap Apple will be turned into Zap Apple Jam, which you can pump out. Right now the only way to get Zap Applw Jam is to pump the liquid form into a BC tank and right click it with a bucket. This will be fixed soon. These cauldrons will be used later to mix certain liquids. They don't always update properly, but they will if you cause a block update in the same chunk. Custom sounds soon!Zap Apple Bread: Replenishes 3.5 hunger.Zap Apple Pie: I've spent over 4 hours just on this block, and it turned out much better than I thought would be possible. Only the best for this mod. When you click on the Pie, 1/4 of it disappears.Zap Apple Cake: You can now make the topping or base of a cake any flavor. More info in the recipes section.I'm still adding new foods, so leave a comment with some suggestions.
Planned Features:
These features are in the works and will hopefully become part of this mod one day. This should give you a good idea of where this mod is going. These items are somewhat in order, but not exactly.
Add more foodstuffs.
Add meteor shower effect (not actual meteors).
Add bats that fly in an apple shape.
Add regular apple trees that yield normal apples.
Add Normal Apple Cider and Zap Apple Cider
Possibly make cider a liquid too?
Timberwolf "boss"
Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000.
Industrialize!!!
Pictures can't capture what's really happening, so here's a few videos (may be outdated):A very well done spotlight by HappyPotatoProdAn amazing full review by iHasCupquakeA great overview of stages by UltrablobmanStages:
The stages change every Minecraft day, and even if the stage has not been completed when the day is over, the next stage will occur. After the last stage, there is about 20 days until stage 1 will happen again. You can edit the current stage where the world is saved in the ZapApples.txt file. Please note that I will be improving upon the effects each stage has in future versions. They are rather simple right now.Stage 1:You'll hear the howl of a timberwolf if you're close enough.Stage 2:Leaves will grow overtime (4 per second) and there is a 10% chance that lightning will strike within 10 blocks of the trunk when a leaf grows.Stage 3:Flowers will appear around the tree.Stage 4:The flowers will turn into Premature Zap Apples, which are impossible to break. If you do spawn them in, when you eat them there will be some unpleasant side effects.Stage 5:Zap Apples will grow from the premature ones and will be ready to harvest. There is a 50% chance that lightning will strike when an apple grows. There is a lot of lightning in this stage.Stage 6:This isn't really a stage, but the leaves will slowly disappear from the tree, and if there are any Zap Apples left, they will be dropped.
Recipes:
A Jar is made like so.Vanilla Icing is crafted like this. Then, add a dye to make any flavor of icing.Zap Apple Bread can be crafted with jam and bread, in any order. You can craft Zap Apple Pie like so.Zap Apple Cake is make like this: (temporary recipe)You can then dye the top with any kind of icing. You have to dye the top half of a cake before the bottom. Then, apply icing to the bottom as well. You can also use Zap Apple Jam as a base.Industrial Cauldrons are made with the following materials. You can create purple dye from Zap Apple Logs also.

This mod requires Minecraft Forge to be installed. You can get the appropriate version here: http://www.minecraft...x.php?board=3.0 . If you are using Bukkit, then you will need to use the custom MC Port Central build, which can be found here: http://mcportcentral.co.za/ . After that is installed, simply place the Jar file you downloaded into the /mods folder of your Minecraft directory. The same files are used for both the client and the vanilla server. To change any block IDs or toggle the lightning, just edit the config file which will be created in /config/ZapApples.cfg .

Here's the source code, if anyone is interested in how I accomplished anything: https://github.com/Jsnman/ZapAppleModIf you want to include this mod in a modpack, please contact me. If you want to create a texture pack which texturse this mod, you have the right to do so, although I recommend you PM or email me so I can include a link to it in this thread. If you want to make a video showcasing this mod, you can do that as well. It would be preferable if you contacted me with a link to the video so I can post it on this thread.
I'm just recording a video at the moment, but it's taking a while for the stages to progress. I don't suppose there's any way to speed it up? Also, do the stages just occur after a time has passed, or are there other conditions such as daylight?
The mod looks great though! I'm currently watching stage 2, and I love how the leaves grow from top to bottom. The timberwolf howls were a nice touch too.
Okay, I finished the video. it has recordings of all stages except the last (leaves degrading), but they're sped up to reduce the video time. If you want a video that has each stage in real time (and no commentary) just ask, and I'll be able to do it.

I can't thank you enough for this! I really appreciate this. The stages last change every day, so you can quickly speed them up by setting the time to night, then setting it to day again.

No problem about the video. Wish I'd tried the time thing before - would've been easier than leaving my computer to record for an hour!
How can I change the ID number for the Jar Block? I changed all of the items in the config and all of the Zap blocks are on the new ids, except it still keeps block id 606 for the Jar and Zap Apple Jam Jar block.
I really need to get the id to change because it clashes with the IC2 mod. I have changed the block number in IC2 on my client and it works but I don't want to have to change it for my server or I will lose my map.

Sorry about that, it looks like the jar block didn't accept the value from the config. It's fixed now, and I altered the IDs so they start at 1551, which should allow more mods to work with this without changing any configs.
I have a new problem. I have the same version of Zap-apples on my server and client and they both are using the same IDs but I get this message when I try to connect to my server
Forge Mod Loader could not connect to this server
The mods and versions listed below could not be found
Great job so far! Can't wait to see what else you come up with! Maybe zap apple pies make like the pumpkin pies? Actual timberwolves? *gasp!* Maybe even the flying rainbow spectra! (pardon my over active imagination)

ZapApples : 1.0.2
I get that message as well when I connect, however you can just click okay and continue playing. Does the same thing happen on your server?
This problem is caused by the version checking between the client and server which I currently have only checking the first two numbers, i.e. you can connect to a 1.0.2 server with 1.0.0. I'll see if removing this feature allow you to connect flawlessly, and I will update the mod accordingly.

That's what I'm hoping to achieve, as difficult as it may be. I don't think I'll be adding actual timberwolf entities because that takes away from the main point of the mod. Crazy wolves running around oppressively made of logs aren't the goal here, so if I do decide to add them they will need to be more mysterious and shady.

Correct me if i am wrong, but apples MUST be gathered else - they disappear. Just dropping them is anyway not "like it happens in MLP"
i don't like the way when i don't need any "Hardcore" to pick apples.
And well, may be it worths to add some things like " if log or leaves getting corrupted the tree getting cursed and makes "evil" kind of apples wich are deadly"
I've only got one suggestion for this mod... I demand (Nicely request) Zap Apple Jam have a liquid version based on the Buildcraft API liquids so I can fill a massive 7x7x8 tank to the top with rainbow jelly of goodness! And with the liquid form comes Zap Apple Cider mass production I WILL make a Super Speedy Cider Squeezy for my Zap Apples! Other than a liquid form for BC usage, truly amazing mod and I can't wait until there's more food stuffs to make with Zap Apples :3

You seem to be contradicting yourself. You pointed out a feature which wasn't present in the series, then suggest another that isn't present.
You are right, the apples are supposed to disappear, but this mod is only my interpretation of MLP Zap Apple phenomenon, and I thought it better to have them fall if not gathered by the end of the day. An evil apple tree as you pointed out would be a good way to expand this mod, but I'll have to think it over. Currently I'm thinking about adding an industrial method to synthesise Zap Apples, but it's only an idea.

That is a big proposition, but I think it will need to be implemented if I decide to create an industrial expansion for this mod. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Loving it, in fact. I giggled like a little girl when I heard that first lightning strike! When that industrial expansion does indeed happen, I'll make the largest tank available at the time and fill that to the best of my abilities, just for the sheer rainbow tank of amazing. I've also decided my base needs a room strictly dedicated to the processing and storage of Zap Apples and related products Keep up the awesome haha. Minecraft definitely became 20% cooler when I installed this mod.
EDIT: Another quick suggestion, on a much smaller scale than my last one haha. Instead of instantly turning the logs in to Purple Dye, (I love the idea btw) you should be able to make some pretty purple planks, while retaining the ability to make the dye, but from smelting the logs in a furnace, in the same way you turn Cacti blocks in to Cactus Green.

It's people like you who drive me to make these mods. I had considered making Zap Apple Planks, but when you really get down to it, it's just another decoration block. You wouldn't be able to use those planks in any recipes in place of vanilla ones. This is why IndustrialCraft rubber logs don't turn into special rubber planks. Since there was no hue of vanilla plank that matched the purple of the Zap Apple Logs, I decided to have them be turned into purple dye instead, which is much more believable in my opinion. If you want colored planks, there are a surplus of mods out there that can deliver, and you can use one of them to dye a plank with the purple dye crafted from the logs. All in all, extra decoration blocks don't fit into what I am trying to achieve with this mod.

In the poll I voted for more food items. If you add more food items that grow you should make them also have stages of growth.
Thanks! I've worked a lot on the stages because a flat change just wasn't exciting.
