A short has a max value of 32767. Anything higher than that won't work.
Nope, doesn't work. Let's say I'm trying to change the color of wool in my inventory from white to pink. Changing the ID from 35 to 35:6 gives me the error "Not a valid short code". Since this is not over 23767 I don't know what the problem is ._.

Oh, the 6 in 35:6 is the Damage value. When you edit the NBT tag of the wool, just set the Damage value to 6 - leave the ID at 35.
How to install on mac?

Use Magic Launcher http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/939149-launcher-magic-launcher-100-mods-options-news/ Download Forge universal and this mod. Place both files on your desktop. Open magic launcher, go to "Setup" on the right side, click on "Add" and find the Forge ZIP file on your desktop, it will say "1 erros" but that's normal. Then on the bottom, click on the "manage" button and drag the NBT edit ZIP folder into there. Click OK, and you are done, I hope this helps

Hypixel doesn't use this. He uses MCEdit. This mod is better than using MCEdit filters. I'm sure you can find one of my rants about this earlier on is this thread.

Or if you want to actually be able to install mods manually (less buggy that way), go to:
/Users/[YourName]/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin.
There find the minecraft.jar, open with Archive Utility, and dump in the Forge files there.
Delete the META-INF folder.
Now select all, compress, then rename to "minecraft.jar" and with it replace the vanilla jar in the bin folder.
(Back up the vanilla jar in case something happens)
Now open up Minecraft to make sure it works, then go back to your minecraft folder and drag the mod zip folder in the mods folder.

It's crashing because that NBT Tag is too big - it can't be sent as a single packet. That spawner has over 1000 SpawnPotential entries - why?
SMP usually implies the server needs to have the mod too(for future reference). Client side mod means the server does not need the mod(like optifine).
This mod requires the server to run the mod, as clients get minimal information about entities by default.
The server also needs to have the mod installed. Like rich1051414 has said, there is no way to get around it. Sorry.
Okay, thanks
Like how the short limit is 32767.

It's really easy to use if you look at the wiki and copy what it says there.
