I don't suppose anyone has managed to figure out the recipe for the Magic Fabricator yet? I've tried every arrangement I can think of of Stone Bricks, Eyes of Ender, Arcane Ash and Ender essence, with no luck, and my progress has pretty much ground to a halt because of it...
We installed the latest version on our 1.5.2 minecraft server, and we haven't been able to get any towers to spawn at all.
I tested on a single player map, and I could get a lot of towers to spawn (I set the gridsize really small).
On the multiplayer server, we tried resetting the world. We tried shrinking grid sizes. We even tried deleting the world and starting afresh. We tried deleting all the worldgen lines from the server's config files. Still, no mage towers would spawn in.
Anyone else had a problem with multiplayer servers and ars magica structure generation?
It's been mentioned by a few others. Quickest solution seems to be generating the world in Singleplayer and copying it.

That aside, noticed the update and decided to start a new SSP world with it(been playing the last few days on 5.50.010). Came across some bugs that made me decide to bother making a forum account to post with(Lurker by trade)
- Firebolt still requires a charge up.(Been mentioned already but mentioning for completeness's sake)
- Mazes aren't always generating fully.
I've come across two so far, one in the desert and one in a forest. Both were missing a part of the of the maze. For the forest one it didn't cause any issues, merely had an extra hole in the side. Desert one seems to be impossible to complete barring flight or a higher jump. It's missing a full 13x7 chunk on the SW corner that after I began to recognize all of the tunnels, I looked at my mapping mod(Was being good and ignored it for the maze) and realized that the missing section seems to be integral to finishing the maze.
SS of Desert Maze:
Note: when it comes to the other mods I have, none have anything to do with world generation, all utility and recipe ones(Backpacks, Smeltable Gravel, Rotten Flesh to Leather, NEI(For the recipe book, trying to not give in to flat out cheating), Wool to String, ChickenShed, Better Bows)

A Suggestion: Look into an alternate way of making blue dye or choose a replacement for blue and purple runes. Lapis is the only dye used by runes that is not renewable and is also harder to obtain generally than any others. My first world running the mod, dug for about two hours before finding a single block, had better luck on my next two worlds, yay RNG.
I think a simple solution would be to allow Blue Orchids to make dye as well.

Question: Is there any reason the materials for Essences are so widely varied in difficulty to obtain?
For example(Not including the Ash needed):
Water: 4 buckets(12 iron) and a water source - Simplistic and iron's not wasted since the buckets are returned.
Earth: 2 Stone, 1 Dirt, and 1....Obsidian - Kinda odd jump with Obsidian being required, Would have figured Sand, Gravel, or Clay instead. Granted, one already needs a method of obtaining Obsidian to build a Refiner anyways.
Fire: 2 Coal, 2 Blaze Powder - Ramp up in difficulty here, and a requirement of heading to the Nether for the Blaze Powder. (The Ash base doesn't require a trip to the nether thanks to the Mage Towers/Mazes having the potential to have them(Or Arcane Compounds) in the chests). Not to mention the need to actually find some Blazes to kill and loot.
Air: 2 Feathers and 2 Ghast Tears - Dear bloody god. Ghasts are a pain to begin with and then throw on the hope that not only do they drop a tear, but that it doesn't fall into lava and you can get to it. Guess I'll be heading to the Nether and bringing a chest or two full of cobblestone to make an arena to fight them on. Joy....
So we have the four base elements, two of which require going to the Nether with the second one being a rather large pain in the ass.
he difficulty to make the other essences bounce around as well:
Life: 2 Golden Apples and 2 Eggs. With a fabricator to make gold easier, the only issue is gathering the apples.
Plant: Lily Pad, Cactus, Vines, Leaves - Notable for two reasons: Being the only essence that requires four different items to make as well being one of two essences that require Silk Touch tool to obtain some of the ingredients.
Ice: 2 Ice Blocks, 2 Snow Blocks: The other essence requiring Silk Touch. Aside from getting the enchantment, the only other potential issue is locating a cold biome to harvest the mats(Mainly ice, snow, once found can be fabricated).
Magma: 2 Lava Buckets, 2 Magma Cream - Main difficulty is getting the mats for the Cream but it can be fabricated.
Lightning: 2 Glowstone Dust, 2 Redstone -
Arcane: 4 Arcane Ash - Only notable for being the only Essence using a single ingredient.
Ender: 2 Ender Pearls, 2 Eye of Enders - Eyes can be fabricated. Orbs....meh. Find this Essence annoying as well since the teleporting spells all use it. Granted, if you find an Enderman and happen to have the Astral Distortion spell, fighting them may be a bit simpler, assuming it works on them.
Overall, just find it really odd that they vary so drastically in difficulty, and I do think that Air's materials really should be revamped. The essence recipes really feel like they were put together with a mindset of, "What item sounds right to use," without any regard to the potential difficulty in obtaining the items compared to what they give the players.
It's also a bit rough when one thinks about wanting to use a research table because they've had no luck finding the recipes they want.
Let's take Flight for example:
Air Affinity spell, according to NEI, there's 10 of them. If one was to research Air spells, it could potentially take 500,000 Essence, 30 Air Essences(60 Feathers, 60 Ghast Tears(Ick), 30 Arcane Ash), 30 Journal Fragments(Ick), 30 ink sacks, 30 more feathers, and the time to let the table do its job.
Those issues aside, I really enjoy the mod. I wouldn't have taken the time to bring this stuff up otherwise. It's the first one I've found that really rekindled an interest in Minecraft. Do look forward to what comes next.
top right and top left corners a rune lanu (blue), stone brick in top middle;
middle left and right a stone brick, ender essence in the middle;
down left and right corner arcane ash, stone brick in the middle.
I use CraftGuide (*click* - also works for 1.5.2). With it, you can even craft an ingame book to look up all recipes. Doesn't break the immersion for me like NEI does.
Huh, I looked into that earlier, but it explicitly stated it wasnt working with 1.5.2 yet. I guess it was wrong? Thanks!
EDIT: Aaand sure enough, minecraft 1.5.2 crashes on startup with the latest version of CraftGuide installed. I have no idea how you managed to get it working, but it sure isn't for me.
Hi guys,
Just started this mod this morning, and loving it so far.
Seem to be having an issue with the towers I've found, and can't work out if its me, or a feature in the mod or what.
I've found a couple of towers, with areas that are completely inaccessible from outside.
So I've done the logical, and tried to mine my way in. But to my demise, whenever I destroy a block that's part of the structure, It's instantly replaced by a Blue watery hazey like block, thats completely indestructible from what I can tell.
Also, If i try to place blocks on the structure, they also instantly disappear.
Am I doing something wrong, is this an intentional feature with someway to work around that I haven't found yet?
Or is this something unintentional that I should be trying to fix?
Any help would be fantastic.
Thanks in advance.
I have had this same problem. its this new tower block that protects the tower. this tree blocking a stairway that spawned in a tower is basically indestructible and i cant get the chests. Also i liked to make my house in these but now i cant
It's possible that i'm not using it properly, but it seems like the Imbue enchantment for armor isn't working. I was very excited to try on my extremely epic Archmage Armor, imbued with the Flight buff, only to find that the Imbue effect does nothing...
I updated to the newest version of Ars and I'm still having the texture binding issues that I have been having with previous releases.
I have screenies of all the affected blocks now though!
This issue is affecting the fabricatior now as well. Any of the blocks that are not a vanilla minecraft shape are affected. From Left to Right, The crystal stand, the archive bookcase, the magic mirror, the fabricator, and the reconstructor. It's almost definitely an issue with the game not applying the texture to the new models, because the fabricator's center purple texture remains intact and it's pretty clear that texture is applied to a "flat" surface.
Any help would make my game more beautiful, literally xD
I don't know if this is a new issue, old or already known of one but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Those humungo maze structures... me thinks the construction crew have been slacking off a bit as they appear to be a tad... unfinished.

Hey Ethereal, just curious, what version of forge are you running?
Blast it, knew I left something out when I retyped that. Had lost half of the post when I accidentally hit the back button on my mouse. Retyped the Lapis and Essence bits. I am aware that Lapis can be fabricated. My point on that topic still stands.
so i installed a new mod, thaumic tinkerer, and have provided this error to the dev for that mod as well, but im getting this error after installing thaumic tinkerer that seems to suggest ars magica and thaumic tinkerer arent getting along

I'm using build 703. This issue shouldn't pertain to forge though, considering the issues has carried over from the previous update of Ars. New worlds and several forge versions didn't change the issue

If you'd be willing to test something for me?
In your texturepacks folder, make a new folder (call it whatever you want). Make it have this structure:
Sorry about those textures, I don't actually have the vanilla textures on this computer.
You don't need to zip it or anything. Load up a creative Minecraft world, drop an archive bookshelf, toss a few journal fragments in it, and switch your texture pack to <YOUR FOLDER>. Let me know if it will bind the textures from the pack. (After it's loaded, press F3+T just to make sure it reloads the textures proper).
ok now i know that the tower gen is kinda messed up but this one is just ridiculous
(ignore the cobble thing thats another mod i have and i am only posting this because i thought it was really funny and i wanted to share)
I have to be honest, I kinda hope this bug isn't fixed because the totally random and absolutely wacked location of some towers and structures... is just awesome! XD
It's been mentioned by a few others. Quickest solution seems to be generating the world in Singleplayer and copying it.

(ignore the cobble thing thats another mod i have and i am only posting this because i thought it was really funny and i wanted to share)
Happiness is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth.

Make it have this structure:
texturepacks > YOUR FOLDER > mods > ArsMagica > textures > blocks > custom
In that final "custom" folder, save and drop in these files:
http://i.imgur.com/klYsH7l.png (Save as "bookshelf.png", without quotes)
http://i.imgur.com/ppHzFJm.png (Save as "bookTex.png", without quotes)
Sorry about those textures, I don't actually have the vanilla textures on this computer.
You don't need to zip it or anything. Load up a creative Minecraft world, drop an archive bookshelf, toss a few journal fragments in it, and switch your texture pack to <YOUR FOLDER>. Let me know if it will bind the textures from the pack. (After it's loaded, press F3+T just to make sure it reloads the textures proper).
I have to be honest, I kinda hope this bug isn't fixed because the totally random and absolutely wacked location of some towers and structures... is just awesome! XD
