This has nothing to do with servers. You just install the bam.class into the minecraft.jar after forge and put the mod_hdskins.zip into the mods folder. It works on singleplayer and multiplayer. So it should work on lan. Make sure you've made an account on the site and the other person as well must have an account. They don't need the mod for you to see their skin but they need the mod to see theirs and yours.
Hey, Im using the tekkit launcher with the latest build, will this not work with that setup?
Edit: I dont know if this helps anyone else, but I got it working with tekkit by adding the forge mod to modpack.jar rather than minecraft.jar.
Not sure if thats supposed to happen like that.
As far as I know, this is version of the mod should work with Tekkit. However, it is an old version that doesn't have all of the features of the new ones (force reload, crash prevention, etc.) I think it still uses the old server too, so skins will load more slowly.
But yes, I think the mod does need to go into modpack.jar
When I get some free time I'll update the 1.2.5 version so there will be an up to date version to use with Tekkit.
Hello, AngryKhan. I have a strange problem. When I re-login or go away from other players, their skins and capes are replacing by default minecraft.net. When I login to the server and stay with players in same territory, everything is ok. How can I fix that?
I'm not sure if it was necessary or not, I've heard people say 1.4.6 mods work on 1.4.7 and some say they won't. So, I recompiled it on 1.4.7 just to be safe.
Also, in other news. The website is going to be getting a major overhaul on February 1st. I'm going to be posting occasional previews on twitter (@AngryKhan). The new update is going to be fixing a lot of issues and common complaints, like having to reload the page too many times to change skins. The site's getting a whole new look too. Here's a preview of the new download page:
I'm also looking to turn the site into more of a community hub, with a focus on all things HD for Minecraft. This is also reflected in the new address, now meaning "HD Minecraft Stuff" instead of "HD Minecraft Skins". The site is moving beyond just skins and bringing in support for texture packs as well. I'm also opening up the option for skin/texture pack artists to have there own personal pages, rather than being limited to forums threads. This is an extension of the idea I discussed a while back that was being called "StoreFronts" back then.
Premium membership is also something new coming to the site. With a premium membership you are not only getting all of the ads removed from the site, you're also getting entry into a monthly drawing, which could be anything from games on Steam to J!NX gift certificates. You'll also have the option of having your own website hosted on the server, with a sub-domain. So, if you wanted to link someone to a gallery with your skins in it, you could send them to yourname.hdmcs.co.
Now, I know you may be thinking that I'm just doing this to get money, and you're partially right. In the past year that I've been running the site, it's been at a loss. I've been having some financial problems lately, and having to pay so much for the site out of my own pocket hasn't been making things any easier. The plan with the premium memberships is to pay the hosting bills for the site, then put any extra money back into things like the monthly drawings. I'm not trying to get rich from this, I'm just trying to stop losing money on it.
Before I go, I want to take a moment to thank the community for all the support I have received recently. You guys are the reason I keep doing this. I don't even play Minecraft much anymore, but I keep updating the mod because I love seeing the amazing things you are making. Without the awesome creative community, this mod would not be what it is today. Really, Minecraft itself wouldn't be either.
So, keep being awesome, everybody.
Unless there's a new Minecraft update between now and February 1st, you probably won't be hearing much from me. I'm going to be buried in code, getting the new website done and tested before it goes live.

I too am getting this issue. First log in my skin, as well as everyone else's loads, but if I leave the area and come back the default minecraft.net skin gets loaded for everyone. and if I change worlds, and enter the nether my skin then reverts and stays reverted until I log out and back in again. Running 1.4.7, Forge .499 I've tested with JUST forge/the HD Skin mod, and with about 100 other mods, and the issue persists on both. Also I've ran with the console up, and get no other feed back then [HD Skins] Checking for "Player".

I think I know what's causing this. I'll get on fixing that soon. Until I get it fixed though, you can force the skins to reload by pressing the "P" key while the game is paused.
I seem to be having a problem, I signed up to the site alright with my full Minecraft username (I have a Mojang account, so it's my email; I also tried my old Minecraft username). I uploaded my skin to the site fine, I clicked the "wear" link, but when I went into the game, my skin didn't show up. I made sure that everything was installed right, bax.class in the JAR and the zip in the mods folder.

Help?
You need to be using your Minecraft username, whether you have a Mojang account or not. If you have installed the mod correctly, it may just be a temporary issue. Some users have reported that they need to restart Minecraft a few times before the mod starts working.
Howdy fellow crafters of mines, and miners of crafts.
I am honestly pretty new to the Minecraft scene overall, I played it a while back stopped, and returned last month. I originally stopped because I felt it was a bit...TOO addicting.
So now with a renewed interest, and with the help of my younger brother; who has been a little more faithful to Minecraft over the last couple years, I wanted to be more involved and make my own skin...I've also recently become a fan of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, one of the few competitive fighter games I actually enjoy. So I wanted to pay homage to my favorite character, Akuma!
I started simple: with a normal 16x skin:
Okay that satisfied me...for a week...as I experimented with different Texture Packs working my way up into HD ones, I felt horribly out of place with my 16x Akuma...
So I looked around and stumbled upon this thread and AngryKhan's incredible looking HD Skin Texture Mod!
I immediatley joined HD Minecraft Skins, and began upgrading my Akuma, I finished his face* in Paril's awesome program: MCSkin3D. *inspiration I referenced to make the face
...and added some stuff on the outer head layer like Akuma's Prayer Beads, and some hair, and the tied up portion of his hair. (which kinda screwed me up later).
I was not happy with the result though I had more room than on a 16x canvas, it still looks pixelated as hell, so I took it into photoshop and upped the effort, eventually I was pleased enough with the face in photoshop, so I took it back into MCSkin3D, and found that Akuma no longer had a face while the outer layer of the head was toggled visible (this only happens while previewed in MCSkin3D from the HDMinecraft Skins site it seemed to look as planned in the thumbnail...) I ignored it, and moved on to make the rough version of the body.
I finished the rough version of: the torso, arms, and legs, last night, I stopped, and decided I wanted to use it as is; for now, since improving the body in photoshop will be moderately time consuming. I noticed a few blotches appeared here and there which seems to happen sometimes in MCSkin3D when you paint over corners at irregular camera angles. Not aesthetically pleasing, but not a big deal easy fix later on. Here is what I came up with so far:
Then I ran into the problems...
I listed them in my skins description:
Akuma (works in progress) HD Skin of a character from Street Fighter IV using MCSkin3D and Photoshop CS6
Wanted to make an HD Street Fighter IV Akuma skin, this is my first HD skin and is far from being completed, but I wanted to use it for now anyway until I finish the full Skin, I can't seem to get the mod to work despite following various remedies to the issue I'm having, I either show up as my 16x16 minecraft skin, or as an HD version of the generic steve skin.
I have installed the latest version of the mod.
I have applied forge, and the HD skin mod through MCPatcher.
I have the exact usernames matched between Minecraft, and HD Minecraft Skins.
I have also manually added the mod's contents into a fresh minecraft.jar, I deleted my .bin, forced update and gone through the process again multiple times already and can't get it to work.
I have also made sure to click wear from here on the site, and still nothing, just HD Steve...
I must have buggered it up somewhere, maybe I incorrectly extracted the files into the .jar, or perhaps I have an incorrect version of Forge? I am unsure where I went wrong, but following advice from various other people's problems, and how they were resolved I am still unable to view my skin...
EDIT:
hmmm...I just noticed that on the 2D layout there is paint bleeding onto the areas that should be blank space...could that be a problem?
Tried that...didn't work...I also tried uploading VonDoom's template and wearing that as the skin, but it didn't work either meaning I did something wrong with the Mod, not the skin, but I still can't solve it.
But, I understand you're busy, and get constant questions about stuff like this, so don't worry about it take your time
