Minecraft black screens at startup with no crash report or anything... all i have on it is mcpatcher, tmi, modloader, and modloadermp (in that order)
Same thing happened for me.
Fresh vanilla version of minecraft.jar, installed only minecraft forge, game starts without any problems.
Fresh vanilla version of minecraft.jar, patched with mcpatcher 2.2.2, installed only minecraft forge, black screen at startup

Your error report indicates that you do not have Modloader installed. Try again with a new jar. Install Modloader, then ModloaderMP (if you need it), then install Forge.
thank you very much. it works now. i guess modloader somehow got deleted out of mcpatcher
As for forge hooks one thing has always puzzeled me, Why no ItemStack save/load hook? this would make some of IC2 so much simpler.
How i would see it working would be a Interface ("ICustomItemSave") that adds a Load and save class to the item, Then when you are in the itemstack load/save function at the end just check if the item is instanceof then call the function.
Actually, with the release of Minecraft 1.0, you can load arbitrary NBT data into an ItemStack anyway. It makes this a lot easier, and as far as I'm aware, we don't have to do anything in Forge to support it.

hi guys i am in a bit of a bind and i was looking for some advice.
The problem is i have 1 block id left to use and well i need more i was thinking of using minecraft extended but i had alot of compatibility issues with that before. So can any1 give me a little advice it would be greatly appreciated.
First of all thanks for the mineforge. It's the best thing that can happen to minecraft.
Second of all I had a weird glitch yesterday. I downloaded a fresh 1.8.1 minecraft jar. Then I installed these:
-Somnia
-Portalgon
-Audiomod
-Better than wolves
-Buildcraft
-Clay Soldiers
-Mo Creatures(v2.13.2)
-Equivalent Exchange
-GuiAPI
-Modloader
-ModloaderMP
-Mineforge
-Minefactory
-Zeppelin
-Optifine(Forge compatible version)
-Recipe Book
-Red Power
-Shelf Mod
-Industrialcraft 2 and its fixes
-Latest version of millenaire
-SpawnerGUI
-Steve's Carts
-Wurstkniftes' Bookmod
I had to change a lot of config file in order to make them compatible including BTW's config file. One of changed block IDs was Anvil from BTW. Then I started playing with them for a while. I had a flax farm(From redpower I think). Then I decided to add Advanced Machines addon of industrialcraft. Their block id was 199 which used by anvil. So I changed anvil's id to 190 and continued playing. But I noticed that my flax plants turned into anvil. So I decided to change anvil's block id again. This time I changed it to 163. Then I continued playing again. But this time anvils turned into rubber tree leaves(From redpower). So what did I do wrong? Is it a sign of save corruption? Or is it a minor glitch?
How did you change it in the first place? I just need to get on my server, but I can't because minecraft is being retarded!!
Getting a "Saving Chunks" error when shift clicking from a crafting table. I'd post the error message, but Minecraft blackscreens before I can even Print Screen it. Anyone else getting the same error? :/ It might be Forge or it might be ModLoaderMP. I can't tell because I can't see the error message D:
Here is my patch for adding blocks to the creative mode inventory. Mods must explicitly declare they want their blocks added. Is this suitable for inclusion?
Looking at r143, I see a patch to add isRepairable to Items, but no patch to CraftingManager to actually prevent repairing.
I also propose that Minecraft Forge use quilt to make rebasing for new versions of Minecraft easier.
Did you remember to delete the META-INF folder inside the Minecraft jar?
Same thing happened for me.

It updated! Thanks, SpaceToad!
Hopefully BTW updated......
I removed MCPatcher and used Optifine instead and got rid of my black screen problem.
optifine supports HD textures as well right?
Yes, Optifine has HD Texture support. Also, make sure MCPatcher is last in the install list otherwise it will not work.
It does, though I can't get PureBDCraft to work without display errors. I had no trouble with LB Photo Realism, however.
Edit: Installing Optifine last (after Modloader, ModloaderMP, and Forge) fixed the display errors with PureBDCraft.
Edit #2: We were able to get Forge and MCPatcher to work together. The only mod installed is Buildcraft:
1) Force update to 1.0
2) Delete Meta-INF
3) Apply ModLoader
4) Apply ModLoaderMP
5) Apply MC Forge
5) Copy BuildCraft zips to mods folder
6) Apply MCPatcher - ignore warning, use default settings

any ideas?
That's part of ModLoader, not Forge.
INFORMATION WANTS TO BE WRONG
Forge has a decompile fix for it.
