Any other site with mods on them especially if it has a foreign language just looks was too suspicious. Even if you put it on another site it would be found here first in the OP. so out of other mc forums you denounce those? what about ones in a different non english language, just because its not here doesnt mean it isnt trusted....also the mod author is from japan.

I have to agree that it'd be nice to see the page here updated as ASAP when updates become available, as opposed to other sites. It's not that I have anything against other sites, it's just a matter of familiarity and trust that's already been built up over time with -this- site. Being the site for the game itself, the Minecraft forums have been established and widely used for a good period of time now.
That said, it's good to see an update up and I've used it here and it's working fine with my 1.6.4 build. Rei did say that he's Japanese and doesn't consider himself good with English in the OP, so it's fairly understandable to find his work on a Japanese board. (And if it's a hoax, someone took the time to do a decent job of it, getting his username and avatar exactly as they are here and establishing that account (and post) a couple years back. I don't read Japanese at all, but it's dated July 2011 originally -- looks like he posted the original there before he did here.)

If you can install Modloader itself (instructions in Risugami's post for Modloader), you should know the general procedure. You would just use an archiver like 7-Zip (or WinRAR, etc.) to open the game's .jar file (after creating a new profile and such with the appropriate files), open the .zip file for Rei's Minimap, and drag the contents into the .jar file. Then make sure you delete the META-INF folder.
Another way to do it, which is somewhat less technical -- if you use MCPatcher, in the Mods tab, you can click the add ('+') button, browse to and select the .zip for Rei's Minimap, then add that (it should have the top directory level of the Minimap .zip highlighted -- generally the default). Set whatever other settings you like for HD texture effects and click Patch.
The one caveat is that this does not do the handling that Modloader does to avoid conflicts between mods. So if you want to use other mods along with Rei's Minimap, you'll have to troubleshoot any conflicts on your own. That's beyond the scope of what I can write in this already long post, but there's info out there to be found for how to do that, though it's not always for the faint of heart.

he has updated it, but it's ONLY on his Japanese mod site for some stupid reason (it works!)

I'm not sure if this has to do with the 1.6.4 version or if this applied to the whole post. He probably wants to wait for ModLoader to upload because I just checked and it isn't, so I'm not sure how he got this updated without it. Unless the author of ModLoader is Japanese too, then something fishy is going on here.

That Author of modloader visited his official thread on this site around june or july, he hasn't been back since. Nobody knows if he is coming back. It's not that he threatened to leave, but nobody know him outside the net and can't say what his intentions are. Several others are supposedly working on alternatives to modloader, I think Magiclauncher is considered an alternative as well. I don't know if he's japanese, if so, he's has a good grasp on the english language, others have said he has an "I don't care about you" attitude when it comes to modding, never saw it myself so it's a rumor as far as I'm concerned.
Bottom line, no fishy smell ( I see what you did there! haha!) no conspiracies, just possibly a person that found a life outside the web. The world will never be the same again! (where is my foil hat...)

MagicLauncher is the best launcher I ever used! Hoping the developer would update for 1.13.x and 1.14.x

I can, works perfectly just like normal one. Do understand that MC is not English only game. Your best bet is to check the poster, and you can easily tell it is Rei.
This mod really doesn't like 1.6.4. Here, take a look and see if you can fix it.
