Three portals, each will take you to a different location.
Red Obsidian Portal to the Nether
Green Cobblestone Portal to the Overworld
Blue Smooth Stone Portal to the Sky Dimension
Each portal will teleport you to that dimension, unless you are already in it.
You can change the portal frame in the mod_Portal.cfg file. It is in .minecraft/config
You will no longer be able to create the old purple portals, but any old portals will work as normal.
To build an unusually shaped portal:
Build a frame, just like you would a normal portal
Then take flint and steel and use it on a corner
The portal will then be created
There are limits to portals:
They cannot exceed 16x16 for time reasons and any large portal may lag minecraft for a second.
To build a horizontal portal, just create a frame like normal, except parallel to the ground, and use flint and steel on it. A horizontal portal will be created, which has the same limits as other portals.
Installation Directions:
Install Minecraft Forge for 1.3.2
Move the Portals++ zip into the mods directory
To modify the config, run minecraft once and a mod_Portals.cfg will be created in config folder in your minecraft or minecraft server directory.

Change-log:
v1.0:
Reset complete code and started from scratch.
Basic functions, portals and generation by fire.
Any size and orientation of portals.
Had to limit it to three portals because of memory.
Note: The differences between SSP and SMP are minimal. Only two functions need to be removed for it to change to the SMP version. Also PortalsEntity and PortalsTexture aren't used in SMP.
1.6:
Added in config for sky dimension id.
Modified the portals so that the original portals aren't made ugly. (New portals are now a bit buggy, just recreate them)
Made Server code a bit more separate, allowing for less time to be taken to create the two zips.
Minor bugfixes and other changes that I can't remember.
Definately an interesting mod. When I installed it after industrialcraft they both worked fine. There's a couple of other issues I noticed though...
Having sky and surface portals next to each other on the surface can lead to the sky portal not working at all. it leaves you quite stranded. Also, when you die in the sky world you reappear in the sky world, and your spawn point gets reset. It was pretty close to the portal on the surface, but that may be because I died pretty close to it.
Jumping in a red nether portal brings you out to a green one on the other side.
You may want to restrict us from creating portals that lead to the same dimension. A nice fizzle effect when creating a sky portal in the sky, for example. I don't suppose you could make the "butterknife" either something already in the game, or look less like a machete? Why the heck do we summon portals with butterknives anyway? XD

I don't know what could be causing the sky and surface portals to cause problems, but I'll look into it.
When you die, you get sent to your spawn point, which in the sky realm is sometimes in a different place then your portals. It is possible to reset your spawn point by sleeping in the sky realm, but only during a thunderstorm, and there is no visible clue besides a darkening of the sky.
Probably should have said this in the post, but each portal is one way, they only go towards one dimension or realm.
So when you go through a nether portal, I set it to create a portal to wherever you came from, a surface portal or sky portal.
The butter knife was just me lacking ideas and coming up with something completely insane.
It makes sense if the knife can create tears in the spacetime continuum that will direct themselves towards a dimension based around the surrounding materials...
But mainly it was just because I had no other ideas and creating portals with a butter knife sounded like something fun to do.
I could set it so you can't create portals to the dimension you are in, but I was being lazy so I just set it so you couldn't use them. Plus if someone really wanted to create a sky portal in the sky, they could easily use a inventory editor or spc to make it. This way I leave the option open for them to have fun making doorways out of portals.

That's not what my experience said... I accidentally fell off the world in the sky right at the beginning. The portal had spawned in the middle of the air, and I was trying to build a bridge when my keyboard's batteries died and I fell. Great excuse, huh? xP When I respawned I was still in the sky world and spawned on one of the nearby islands. I ran to the nether and intentionally jumped to the bottom to see if you could respawn in the nether as well, but appeared on a different place on the surface than before. It was the same x/z coordinates as my spawn point in the sky.
If a portal of where you came from is created, would you mind changing the material it's made out of? A green portal inside obsidian is definitely wrong.

The nether causes you to teleport back to the surface, but I didn't add that to the sky because I was going to make my house there and it would cause problems if I died.
The portal generating in midair is because that's the exact coordinates where it was in the surface dimension.
I can modify it to create an island if there is no surrounding locations for the portal.
The green portal is there because that is the default portal to get back to the surface.
Right now there is no way to change the colors in each individual dimension.
Hmm... I could change the color scheme to be different for each set of portals in each dimension.
i.e. in the nether red goes back to surface, black leads to nether (aka does nothing), and white (or gray) leads to the sky. It would be possible to edit them that way and it would make things interesting.
You can modify it yourself in the TriplePortalConfig.txt if you want, but it will change all the portals of that type.
Can you try to use default Portal block's metadata instead of adding three new IDs? That would be so much better for users that want lesser mods (no offense, but, for example, IndustrialCraft uses about 70 IDs) to use as little IDs as possible.
Do you think you can start working on other dimensions now?

The latter. If you check my profile you'll see I have both.
if so this would be really good!
Maybe if I can get it working on smp,
but right now no.
