Oh wow - this is a fantastically creative idea for a mob. Awesome.
Could you add a note in the OP as to which version of ML is needed? I think a lot of people (like me) are still using v3 since v4 came out only last week and most mods haven't upgraded yet.
Would it be possible to make it that the sapling planted when they die, grows into a much larger tree than usual, or have some 'special' aspect to it?
Well, keeping both of those ideas in mind, I was going to try to follow firehazurd's original idea, but in order to make something like a special tree, I'd have to add a custom block type. That goes against my rules because there are a very small amount of Block IDs available, so the mod would definitely be incompatible with something else. I only make custom entities. And so I wanted to see if I could redesign the entire mod, convey the same sort of feeling, while still making the mod fun and all contained within the same central entity. All of the mod's code is included in the grove sprite itself, which makes everything all neat and tidy, and makes incompatibility nonexistent.
I've already made mobs that create a deeply saddening feeling of regret upon the character's death, specifically Charlotte. Because once she dies, you never get her back until you start a new world. With that proving to be successful, I wanted to take this mod in another direction, and create a feeling of shock and fear. Anyone who kills a grove sprite within a crowd of many others is probably going to meet a very quick, firey demise. Also, what would a grove sprite even do besides planting saplings? Just roam around, doing nothing at all?
Considering the center of the grove sprite there is a core (the green part) How about adding it as an item? Make it have to do with nature or something.
Except the cinder sprite o.o that would be disastrous, it looks more like coal.
Oh God...
I just learnt the repercussions of killing a Grove Sprite. D:
There goes my ENTIRE medieval-themed village, along with my roof.
Not doing that again.
I killed a Grove Sprite... and died exactly seven seconds later... I didn't even have time to see what caused it. All of a sudden, there were an awful lot of Cinder Sprites around 0_0
Also, what would a grove sprite even do besides planting saplings? Just roam around, doing nothing at all?
Personally, I imagine they would do things to protect nature. I imagine them (if they were real, of course) to make little traps and find ways to disable or destroy unnatural, unholy beings such as zombies or skeletons. Perhaps you could implement some of this in their code, if possible- I would love to see several grove sprites work together to cocoon a zombie in a bundle of leaves.
And while I understand that the Quintessential Creatures should be advanced, don't feel that every mob has to have several purposes. For example, what is the purpose of the default zombie? To attack the player, and nothing more. I like the idea of a massive tree- why not make an entity that quickly morphs into one of those, working around the custom block problem? A grove sprite could have a rare chance of planting or dropping a huge sapling, which, when right-clicked on grass, would instantly grow over time a big tree.
gonna compare these little guys to my version :smile.gif: good work IMO its better than mine
Hi there,
im sorry to see that you had to say that :smile.gif:. although you are responsible for laying the framework for a GREAT MOD! i believe that this mod adds feeling and emotion to the game. you your self did a good job too.
I download your mod last week unknowingly that this would be released. and yours wasn't bad at all. so THANK YOU!
As always I love your mods. I don't really like the 10% chance of them planting a iron or gold block. I personally would rather do without that or at least have it greatly reduced.
