I'm not sure if this was added back in intentionally or not but I noticed the other day that I can convert melon blocks into slices using the crafting grid. When Hardcore Melons was first introduced, if I'm not mistaken, you removed the ability to do this so that you had to use a saw. I've checked the readme file and no mention of the recipe being added back in and Hardcore Melons on the wiki does still say that you can't break them into slices by hand. Am I missing something?
First, Better Wolves are awesome... not going to say anymore, though :).
Also, Hardcore Wood is actually turning out to be way more intense than I expected. Maybe it's just my play-style, but I totally did not anticipate what an effect it would have in the early game. So thanks for forcing me to continue to adapt to new and more interesting Minecraft situations.
I am always amazed by the quantity of updates FlowerChild releases.
I don't know how you do it man but you set the standard for mods on these forums.

Last time I checked magic launcher is compatible, but not supported.
You will have to read the documentation that comes with both BTW and magic launcher and create a compatible zip file.
Remember you need minecraft 1.5.1 and modloader 1.5.1 (Links are available a few pages back)
You must load modloader first.

This mod is impossible to get into. Too hard at start of the game...
Shame, it looks like a great mod if I could get into it.
Change your play style to suit the increased difficulty. Its worth it once you get an established base.

See...I kept telling everyone that wolves are evil despicable creatures, but would anyone listen? No, of course not, and now you're all ******, so "haha...told you so".
Also how do i make tanned leather? putting it with dung in a cauldron doesn't work...
Again, the readme is a great source of info. That was changed in the most recent version; you now need bark (for tannin) in addition to the other ingredients. I believe the exact amount you need varies by wood type.
Basically instead of running and jumping everywhere (which is my vanilla playstyle), walk everywhere and seriously consider crafting dirt halfslabs for getting up hills.
This is what I do for my first few days in a new world in BTW 4.82:
During your first day, focus on getting 20 wood planks and crafting 3 wood picks. Mine 3 stone, and create a stone pick.
Mine 6 stone, create a stone pick and a stone axe.
With the stone axe, get a bunch of wood, and kill a couple of animals for food. (Try to use about 1/3 of the axe durability on killing animals for food, and the rest for getting wood and turning it into planks.)
By this time night should start falling.
Mine into the side of a hill (or find a small dead-ended cave) and spend the night mining and cooking your food. (I use wood instead of coal for cooking food.)
Do not, under and circumstances, think about trying to fight mobs during the first night. You will die. An exception I make is if I see a zombie carrying an iron sword or wearing iron armour. Even then if there are spiders or skeletons near it, I don't bother.
Spiders are a nuisance at night, and skeletons are pretty much a death sentence if you don't have a sword.
Instead of settling down at spawn, your first few days can be spent being a nomad. Moving from place to place, spending the nights mining, trying to get coal and iron. Once you've got an iron pick and iron shears, you can consider settling down.
The iron shears are for getting some tall grass, which can be used instead of wheat to lure cows and sheep. (Pigs aren't fooled by it though.)
I swear to god I must be the only true optimist left on the planet.

Damn, I saw that, but when I was trying to do it, it had escaped my mind. Thank you though for the information!
icynewyear's oneshot videos do an excellent job at showing off how the game should be played. My playstyle changed quite a bit after watching the iron nugget one. But basically, you shouldn't have any downtime early on; if you do, there's probably a more effective way to spend your time. And you shouldn't be fighting anything. Period.
(actually, that last bit is a lie. I did have to fight off some of the new Fun Stuff in the world I started to try out this version)
I won't deny that the recent changes to wood make it take significantly longer to get started than it takes icy in his videos. But I can confirm that, in wooded areas, if you focus on getting wood and just a little bit of food, you can still reach the stone age on the first day. Focus first on reaching the point where you have both a stone pick and a stone axe in your inventory. If you do, then you can collect some logs with your remaining minute(s) of light and then collect stone for a furnace overnight.
I'm thinking about starting a LP world as a kind of tutorial for getting into the mod. Geared toward a veteren minecraft player that wants to play a 'real mod'.
I already have the necessary tools but have never done something like this before. How many people would be interested in watching a BTW tutorial series?

I use a mix of Dokucraft The Saga Continues and JohnSmith, and create personalized textures for both. Some of my submissions can be found in the Dokucraft Customizer located http://www.minecraft...saga-continues/
I can't craft a fishing rod for some reason (4.82). Did the recipe change? 3 sticks diagonally with 2 strings down at the end, right? I probably missed that in my Sunday morning derpiness somewhere, but I can't find anything about it... :/
Yeah it's a new recepie
It now has 2 stick 2 string and 1 iron lump. I was very confused on this too until I tried to add new (plausible) items to the crafting grid

im struggling to make a turntable, and i figured that i needed to use smoothstone sidings instead of blocks, but how do i create smoothstone sidings?
Stone siding is created using a steel anvil.
However you don't need stone siding for the turntable. The recipe changed recently from using redstone to quartz.

It's a shame about her socks, though. I even had them in matching colors, too.
Awww yeah, somebody discovered the wolfie earing recipe! I was waiting for that!
oh
my god
that is so cute
it shouldn't, the way that magic launcher loads code doesn't bode well with the integrity test of btw
