ahh Flower, I think i understand now after watching that, I do agree with your aspect about the way mods work and how that game should be played. I was really in the dark about the whole Forge vs. BTW cause I didnt quit understand your thinking, but I see now.
Still on that note, for the sake of most of the fans and most of which who use along side Forge still, I dont see why allowing a specific license to a "Forge Patcher" (like Here) would be wrong, It takes the work off of you for dealing with Forge, and it allows certain players who want a different experience to still have that. not that you have to, im just rambling on.
Anyways, thanks for all your help Flower :smile.gif:
Much appreciated
I don't really invite them in most cases, and don't respond to them as a habit, but either here or on the BTW subforum for suggestions is fine.
I do appreciate you asking though :wink.gif:
Not a problem! I figured I'd ask in case you didn't appreciate the flood of suggestions that this mod likely gets.
Its just that Ive been looking for AGES for a mod that provided halfslabs that could be placed on the roof (I found a mod that does it for nearly all blocks now, but its lacking). Your mod not only provided that, but ten times more with being able to place the blocks on walls too, and with more shapes. Only problem was it worked just with wood planks and smoothstone. Works like a charm for most of my building needs (my megabuild project I've been working on off and on for over a year now is getting a HUGE facelift thanks to you!), but if it were just a LIIIIIITLE bit bigger it'd blow up in awesomeness.
Your mod is very unique in making MC bigger WITHOUT resorting to magical red dust to provide every little whim in a single block. You make us WORK for our stuff. Like your saw and anvil (which consequently make my 8 favorite blocks from this mod). My idea was to alter a current system while also expanding it in a new field for crafting.
What if you had a Chisel and Hammer item, combined with a crafting bench to make a Masonry table, or something like that? There you could pile your stone siding/molding blocks, as well as your pillars (since stone isn't worked on an anvil to my knowledge). Then you could craft them there in a more realistic format (maybe even use a physical crafting, like smacking the stone thats placed on top of the masonry table with a chisel to craft it into the pillar pieces?). Then you could expand the feature to cover other stone-like blocks such as cobble (the block I'm dying to see work like smoothstone does now), Stone bricks (also used a TON in my project), sandstone, and netherbrick. Could also make for more types/styles of pillars, or other options that I cant think of. As for any new stone blocks, they could all use existing IDs mostly, at least for the pillar blocks (I noticed your siding/molding/corner blocks were separate, but I'm guessing that is cause their different materials and are crafted differently)
Anywho, that was the general form of my idea. IDN if a pottery-style crafting method would work for stone, nor if it'd be easy to implement.
As I was typing this I also thought of a Lathe... for wood carving. maybe wooden pottery? IDN, I'm a thinker, not a "figure out how to actually do it" kinda guy. One thing is that it would fall under the age system you have going (though IDN how wooden pottery or other carved wood objects might further the tech tree or provide requirements for advancement.) and even requires machine power to function. Maybe it could work like a sideways turntable?
... that just made me think of a redstone torch that could be placed on ceilings pointing down... Making a sideways turntable able to work as like the current turntable-timer does... I better stop while I'm ahead. ^^;
Who is more the troll, the man that speaks little english asking questions, or the man prolonging the argument by creating more confusion and dissent? Comments that don't further a discussion intellectually, provide no help, or don't ask for help in something are considered trolling IMO.
You read what I said? I say: My english is bad. I just read the necessary, exemple: How to install, requirements.
I have used this mod enough to be able to answer a few questions. Send me a Private Message (the button is below my picture, shaped like an envelope, if you are wondering) with your questions about recipes and I will see if I can answer any of them or tell ya where you can find an answer.
I don't normally like asking for help on the forum, but since I've tried everything else: Does this mod have a clash with MCPatcher? Because on my computer MCPatcher-ed Minecraft runs by itself, Modloader and MCPatcher runs, Modloader and BTW runs, but as soon as I try to run minecraft with MCPatcher installed first, then ModLoader and BTW, it blackscreens, leaving no error message anywhere on the computer.
Hopefully I have left enough details for someone to answer
Normally I don't like to go on the forums to ask irritating questions, but since I've tried everything else:
Does this mod clash with MCPatcher? I can use BTW by itself, MCPatcher by itself, MCPatcher with Modloader, but as soon as I install all three (MCPatcher, Modloader and BTW) in the correct order Minecraft blackscreens upon logging in, with no error message or details.
I really hope I've done something wrong, as I really like this mod, but I also really like HD textures. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, that's actually the crux of the problem right there. They couldn't use the existing ID's without me having to resort to using tile entities (like a furnace...which uses a tile entity to extend the data available for a block), which would inevitably result in performance problems with the kind of large projects you are talking about (that's the main technical difference between the sub-blocks in this mod, and those in RedPower btw).
At present, the Siding, Moulding, and Corners use a total of 4 block IDs for the two different types (smoothstone and wood).
In the case of Siding and Corners, 4 bits of the data available for the block are used to store orientation, with 1 bit remaining to indicate whether it is stone or wood.
In the case of the Moulding, all 4 bits of data are occupied by the orientation (since it has more possibilities there), so I actually have to use a separate block ID for both material types.
In other words, each additional material I would add in would consume an additional 2 block IDs (.5 + .5. + 1), which is why I decided to just limit it to the 2 available.
So yeah man, it's a bit of a slippery slope if I start extending them into other block types. Either I start consuming blockID's at an alarming rate, or I introduce performance problems into the system which would limit the usefulness of the blocks themselves. Neither is a solution I'm particularly comfortable with.

Ah, I was wondering why you had 8 copies of several blocks (I use a mod that makes the creative list have EVERY block). Makes sense now. Im not experiencing any performance issues so far, and this megabuild is about 1,000 blocks long at my last count. Its getting a big expansion to boot now that i shipped it off of a server and have it on my PC on a flatmap. There I can perfect it in ways a 1.8 bukkit server could never provide for. Heh, If I ever finish the darn thing I will have to send screenshots of where I used your blocks in it.
As for the ID issue, this would be a thing that you'd need the official modder API thing to get around, I assume? That or its just not efficient, API or no. I guess with that sort of constraint its logical why you limited it. Ive seen plenty of modders getting yelled at by others for using too many IDs. Maybe once that API is released a way around that limitation can be found.
Well if you ever add cobble blocks to those 2, Im gona love the crap outta this mod all the more :wink.gif:

I thought BTW by itself already provided that functionality? (Well, one of the recent updates at least)

Playing since Beta 1.3_01. Yeah. I like BTW. Or used to. Still do. Stuff Technic. (Back in the day...)

Well, I think he called it that because when added wolves to Minecraft, he thought that he should've added what this mod includes...
Congrats on replying to a post from APRIL!!!!!.

Why don't you two just learn / use the MCpatcher's integrated automatic mod installer?
You open it, click the + at the bottom and add ALL the zipped mods you want in at once (modloader, btw, etc.) as well as HD textures. Put BTW on the very top and then click patch and it'll also tell you what or if something's overriding another. (I think BTW overrides 1 modloader file for example, but it's okay)
Wow, you told me to use a feature which doesn't work for any mod that doesn't just put files in the minecraft.jar. It also doesn't really solve clashes. The solution given solved the problem, whilst yours would just confuse new users with the same problem.
Also, thankyou to Fogh_12, I can have my cake and eat it too

Hmmm.... There is but one thing I'd add to this mod...
Stained glass....
It's a simple suggestion, but it's what I think would be cool.
And thats really all I'd add to this, besides something like an airship. :biggrin.gif:
THIS MOD STUFFED UP MY GAME AND NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TRIED TO LOAD IT, IT WOULD BLACKSCREEN OR WHEN I GET ON THE WORLD AS SOON AS I PRESS A BUTTON THE GAME WOULD THEN CRASH!!!!!!!!!!!

After applying the HD texture fix, the BTW mod disappears from minecraft, as well as from minecraft.jar
Are you using MCpatcher to install the mod, or are you installing it manually then trying to use the patcher?
