I'm getting a rather annoying problem. Today i decided to investigate further and collect some information.
→ Whenever all my surroundings are fully loaded and the GC runs, i get 100% cpu usage until another chunk is loaded, all coming from root.gameRenderer.level.updatechunks:
Through some tests, i have found that setting the option Chunk Loading to Multi-Core is the only workaround, which is a problem since i can't fix the flashing with my driver settings.
This does not happen on vanilla game. No other mods (this screenshot shows Rei's minimap but i have tested without it), Optifine U D7, Mojang launcher. Tried updating LWJGL; Latest Java, x64. The server is Bukkit and has a view-distance of 6.
→ What's going on?
Edit: Through some tweaking i was able to remove the flickering, and am getting some pretty impressive speeds with Multi Core Chunk Loading (319 FPS max), and the problem doesn't seem to trigger at all. However, the problem persists and affects the Standard version of Optifine. Will test on Lite.
I'm getting *massive* fps drops when I'm in the water.
<edit> Another edit, I downloaded v7 "ultra" and put chunk loading on "smooth", that helped a lot. The game no longer jerks and stutters, instead fps lowers down smoothly. Much better. Tho, fps seems a bit "low" in the water... seems to be around 10 or lower. Maybe it has always been like that.
If you have a multicore system, try the multicore setting for chunk loading. Seems to help.
I'm getting *massive* fps drops when I'm in the water. The game stutters and lags out of control, but when I move out of it game returns to "normal". Sitting still in a boat on the water 25-40 fps. The second I move fps drops down below 10 and game just lags badly. This happened when I updated from optifine from 4 to version 7.
<edit> MC1.4.5, forge .445. Optifine 7 standard. I'm going to delete the config and let it make a new one, maybe something got messed up in it.
<edit> Seems I get a lag spike every time it loads a chunk on the boat, obviously it's more often since on the boat. Explains the weird jerky stutter I was having when just walking around. Never noticed this in earlier releases, had no problems traveling faster than the terrain would "load" and no stuttering. What could be wrong?
<edit> Downgraded and well, same problem. Guess something with forge...

Thanks hulduet, this was really helpful to know. I have been having an annoying "less than a second" spike lag every so many steps where a chunk would load. I guess We will have to wait for Forge to fix that.
Hey, I just update the LWJGL as per the tips & tricks, and now whenever I click I stop moving. I understand this isn't an Optifine thing but I don't know where else to ask. I figure since upgrading the Java library is posted in the OP here, there's a good chance the folks here would know a thing or two about this. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, AMD II 2.8GHz quad-core with 8gb RAM. Forge 445 and Optifine D7 Ultra.

I tested on Lite D7, it does not happen. However this is important because on Standard or Ultra (without Multi-Core) it can make systems extremely hot with a lot of unnecessary overhead. I'd say this is a critical bug.
Has anyone got any solution for Portal gun and Optifine texture issues. When I put Portal gun with optifine they just glitch out and the mobs start not having a leg or head or something like that. Is there any solution
Please someone i need help when i install like t he ultra or the hd texutre pack optifine chunks dont load i have to play on tiny but on light it works how do i resolve the problem so i can use ultra
when i play with optifine, and forge, this very weird glitch occurs. it shows whats underground, kind of like x-ray, but only for certain chunks, it lasts about .05% of a secound, and then it moves to a different chunk. the result is this fast, gliched, chunk-jumping x-ray, that looks like strobe lights! and its not just one at a time, there are probably 4 chunks jumping at a time. it is driveing me crazy, and any help would be very much appriciated. i should also mention that i had no mods installed with forge, just forge universal, and optifine. i also folowed your instructions, and installed forge first, then optifine, i DID NOT delete the mata-imf that comes with forge universal.
I'm using LWJGL 2.90+ version and that movement issue was fixed. Updating LWJGL was probably the best fps increase I've had to minecraft(beside optifine).
I hate to ask the overly obvious question, but when you updated, did you simply place your lwjgl.jar and lwjgl_utl.jar files in the /bin/ folder, and the contents of the /natives/windows/ folder from the download, over the files in the /bin/natives/ folder?
...because that's what I did (following the "tutorial" here), and I didn't see any noticeable increase in FPS at all.
Or did you do something else, to get your FPS boost? I'm using OptiFine (Light) on an older Netbook, and while I can get up to 30FPS offline, when I go onto servers, I'm lucky to peak at 12FPS for more than a few moments.
Would be lovely to be able to use the Netbook, since it's so compact, and I bring it with me when I'm out and about.

It will make sp614x's job allot more easier and can release updates faster.

What about fixing?
PS: Will future version of Optifine will have an option to turn on/off 3D items drop (new function from 12w50a) irrespective of fancy/fast setting?
