I have a crash report. I only have modloader and optifine 1.2.4 HD A2 installed, and when I was walking around on an ice lake, it suddenly crashed. I don't know if this is important or not, I'm just reporting because it might be. Here is the error report:

If you only have Modloader and OptiFine installed, why even bother having Modloader installed? OptiFine does not need Modloader.
However, if you do want Modloader installed, it needs to be installed BEFORE OptiFine.

Well to the both of you, It isn't Millenaire. It's the Sprite Extender that it uses. Unless you install the real Forge you will continue having your vine/ladder problem.
This is correct, I will be adding a bugfix for this soon.
Tried out the preview version for the first time, since I never used optifine before. Sadly my FPS decreased to a level of 10 fps. As I am new to this has anyone an idea what I got wrong?
Installed it with magic launcher and had no other mods installed, except misas hd texture pack which I added after the first fps test (see above)

You probably have patched minecraft.jar with MCPatcher to use Misa's pack.
OptiFine will not work correctly if installed on a patched minecraft.jar. Make sure to start with a clean minecraft.jar.

I have to install ModLoader AFTER Optifine. If I install ModLoader before Optifine, Optifine wont work.
What planet are you on?
OptiFine has to be installed AFTER Modloader if Modloader is also being installed. Otherwise, OptiFine will not work. Not the other way around. It even says so in the OP and has been mentioned tons of times throughout this thread.
Directly from the OP (in the "Compatibility with other mods" section):
If you need ModLoader: Install OptiFine AFTER ModLoader.
OptiFine does not use Modloader.
Modloader is only for mods that use Modloader. If you're only installing Modloader and OptiFine, you don't need Modloader in the first place.
if there really is a mem_leak then it should get some major attention before optifine is released as "stable" (he is at 98% after all)
otherwise tell me what i could have done wrong, altho i am sure i did it right, Delete META-INF, dump classes in jar, repack/save (with 7-Zip)
EDIT: on a further note back in Minecraft 1.1 (with optifine) i noticed memory issues using the multi-core version, i didnt make a big deal out of it i just used the standard version, seemed to go away
Around 50 fps with misa, 100 fps without. Before I installed optifine I cleared my whole minecraft installation and did not use misas hd texture pack. Still, the framerate was around 10 fps. I was aware of the mc patcher-optifine comflict, that was why I first cleard the installation!
Let's start with the following standard basic details then:
Are you on a PC or Mac?
What are your system specs?
Have you updated your system drivers? Do so.
Have you updated Java? Do so.
If on 64-bit Windows, do you have both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Java installed like is needed?
Do you have Java 6 (1.6) installed or just Java 7 (1.7)?
Have you updated your LWJGL? Do so.
Are you trying to run Minecraft with some batch file or script command instead of directly? Or, are you using a mod manager or launcher like Magic Launcher?
Start with those and anything else that you can think of adding.

i've not needed to update LWJGL in the past however if it somehow affects optifine in this situation i can do so, ill go back a few post i saw a tutorial thing for it, im sure its just basic's anyways

updated LWJGL per minecraft wiki, i noticed snappier "Button" noises but still wild ram hogging also lots of jerks/spikes in lagometer, like the 2sec worldsave however im using SMP on loopback (which is no problem for this machine i regularly run like this)

See, now I'm less likely to help you.
If the info isn't posted here for easy reference, I won't see it since I'm not going to take the time or make the extra effort to go get the information myself.
I can tell you this right away though. TRY WITHOUT THE BATCH FILE!

look, im beyond the average user i assure you, i understand how minecraft and CMD and such inheritance issues occur, however i can assure you the crazy ram hogging only happens when i add optifine, and i did update LWJGL and if i must "spoon-feed" the information i will do so, i was only trying to avoid wasting forum space
i haven't grasped the "Spoiler" function so if u may so kindly tell me how to use it i will fix this huge post, im sure i've just plain missed soemthing so simple :S

You say you're beyond the average user but you don't know how to use the spoiler tag? Also, it's not about being "spoon-fed" the information. It's about convenience and just being polite. Plus, it makes it more likely that others will see your information and possibly offer feedback. You may have been wondering why no one was responding.
That said, being beyond the average user, you should also know that 64-bit Java does not include the 32-bit Java and you need to install both. You should also know that Java 7 (Java 1.7), while it can increase performance, is still meant more for developers at the moment. And, that it may have bugs (the new early access release update 4 is a prime example of this). Also, that specifying -cp for Java without actually setting the classpath can result in Java trying the local directory first (if I remember correctly) therefore possibly causing yet another performance drop. Of course, even if you have Java 7 (Java 1.7) installed, it still goes back to possible problems that unless you also have Java 6 (Java 1.6) installed since both Minecraft and OptiFine are compiled with an earlier version of Java (for various reasons). So, you could try installing both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Java 6 (Java 1.6) and running without the batch file and see if your memory leak disappears.
Unless, of course, you think you are too beyond the average user to try these things (even if it is just to humor others, or to rule out certain things). But, then I'm not sure why you're here asking for a possible solution to your problem anyhow.

im not some egotistical ass, maybe my tone comes across as that and im sorry, however i do understand java 7 is a walk on the wild side per say, and i use x64 java always it makes me more sense to me, and it menas i wont have issues with that stupid 2GB limitation in x86 windows, AFAIK the minecraft launcher correctly uses x64 java now, and i have JVM 6 32 bit and JVM 7 x86 and x64, i really rather have just x64 java 7 but i install things on a as-needed basis, all im saying is i had no problems with optifine in 1.2.3 and in 1.2.4 i do
@ECHO OFF
SET APPDATA=%CD%\Data\Client
CLS
START .\Data\Client\Minecraft.exe
EXIT
i see no issues there, minecraft.exe does all the rest, i only wanted to set my own appdata variable
i will do what you have suggested, im not saying "i know better shut up and help me" i just wanted to make a not eof something i encountered that is a bad thing for other people.
as i said in my first post about this i only use optifine to make my PC do less work and not jet flames out of my PC trying to render 4 digits of FPS

i didnt claim to never make mistakes i admitted it was possible i missed something and thanks to other posters help i did miss something, i fixed it and i learned, im not a "forumer" i just use them when i need to

i haven't grasped the "Spoiler" function so if u may so kindly tell me how to use it i will fix this huge post, im sure i've just plain missed soemthing so simple :S
it's
'
friend. There's also a ninja button in the textbox GUI called Twitter (between Quote and Decrease Indent) that is actually a list of miscellaneous bbtags. One of them being 'spoiler'.
i haven't been here in ages and never had to do huge posts so i never asked
thanks ill go fix it now
also the bukkit dev forum is not so feature rich and i'm there a lot, maybe it's dumbed me down lol
EDIT: wow that is ninja :S well now i feel less stupid for not knowing about [spoiler] thanks alot
But, then I'm not sure why you're here asking for a possible solution to your problem anyhow.
im not some egotistical ass, maybe my tone comes across as that and im sorry, however i do understand java 7 is a walk on the wild side per say, and i use x64 java always it makes me more sense to me, and it menas i wont have issues with that stupid 2GB limitation in x86 windows, AFAIK the minecraft launcher correctly uses x64 java now, and i have JVM 6 32 bit and JVM 7 x86 and x64, i really rather have just x64 java 7 but i install things on a as-needed basis, all im saying is i had no problems with optifine in 1.2.3 and in 1.2.4 i do
i see no issues there, minecraft.exe does all the rest, i only wanted to set my own appdata variable
i will do what you have suggested, im not saying "i know better shut up and help me" i just wanted to make a not eof something i encountered that is a bad thing for other people.
as i said in my first post about this i only use optifine to make my PC do less work and not jet flames out of my PC trying to render 4 digits of FPS
i didnt claim to never make mistakes i admitted it was possible i missed something and thanks to other posters help i did miss something, i fixed it and i learned, im not a "forumer" i just use them when i need to

still goes bonkers
The latest preivew of Optifine makes Zombe's cheat for showing mobs and ores not work.
Tested using clean 1.2.4 jar with only optifine then zombe using OptiFine_1.2.4_HD_A2 does not work. Using OptiFine_1.2.4_HD_A and zombe does work.
