Help Post removed due to users like Clovis3321 and CobbleBoy considering it spam even though it is just like the Vogon_Captain posts at the top of every page of the Mystcraft thread.
A lot of the people that needed to see the helpful information (such sa solutions to common problems and updated setup instructions etc) ignored it anyhow. Those that did find it helpful didn't post anything saying so making it appear the Help Post was not needed.
Gone are the list of solutions to common problems, updated setup instructions, and other helpful information.
873 ?? S 1:06.39 /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -Xms220m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC ... ( long list of options that I have specified in my advanced tab) ... -Xms400m -Xmx400m ...
I want to use a maximum of 400 MB for the heap. But I want to start with much less.
Between the java interpreter, out-of-heap graphic memory, and lots of other things, the client runs close to a gig. It's the 400 pound walrus of processes on my system -- and I need to trim it.
Heap after GC invocations=131 (full 8):
par new generation total 92160K, used 892K [7e1e00000, 7e9600000, 7e9600000)
eden space 61440K, 0% used [7e1e00000, 7e1e00000, 7e5a00000)
from space 30720K, 2% used [7e7800000, 7e78df3e8, 7e9600000)
to space 30720K, 0% used [7e5a00000, 7e5a00000, 7e7800000)
concurrent mark-sweep generation total 286720K, used 127974K [7e9600000, 7fae00000, 7fae00000)
concurrent-mark-sweep perm gen total 83968K, used 69872K [7fae00000, 800000000, 800000000)
}
That's the memory of the java client, after loading up the world. The 8 full collections that you see are "perm generation is full and needs to be expanded" during startup. The 128 MB of tenured space has not been collected or cleaned up since just before logging onto the server. So that includes junk. There is 120 MB allocated to new (eden plus survivors) that is probably overkill -- but I'm kinda limited. I can probably trim that down to 90.
I know that the worst-case twilight hills will use at least 220 MB in tenured, and 250 MB would not surprise me. So I do need that much for the worst-case. But I don't need it normally -- I'm looking at 130 MB minimum that could be trimmed here, and possibly more.
But in order to trim this, this little bit of "startup magic" of magic launcher must go bye-bye:
-Xms400m
Magic launcher is making the assumption that the worst-case memory allocation becomes the normal memory allocation.
That is something that cannot be overriden by the user, as magic launcher will stick that after any other option the user has specified.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

Alright guys, there is very little info for the problem I am about to give. I followed the instructions to install optifine with Magic Launcher. After finishing and launching minecraft, the window disappears. When I went back and turned it off active mode and launched minecraft again, it loaded perfectly. Any advice?

For some reason when I am using the forge jar 9.11.1.923 the game fails to launch and I get this.

Pete;
You omitted the most important part! It's a Mac. How are we supposed to know if you don't tell us?
For some reason I don't understand Mac users seldom help other Mac users, good luck.
I am attempting to use some customized memory settings.
Wait, haven't we been through at least some of this stuff before? Like, what to provide etc? I think I was still waiting on screenshots for your previous issue too.
But, more directly to your current issue:

This is one of those instances where I actually think you're allocating too little (usually it's the opposite).
Again, ... Section 2 ... Of The Help Post ... JUST ... ONE ... POST ... IMMEDIATELY ... ABOVE ... YOURS ... ON ... THE ... SAME ... PAGE.
You do know, don't you, that memory gets swapped back and forth to the hard disk right?

Maybe starting with Section 4? Maybe starting more specifically with Sub-Section 4b? Then, maybe going to Section 3? Maybe reading the whole Help Post in general? Including additional information you should have also provided? You know, from just four posts above yours on the same page?
Geez, why can't people use spoiler tags. It's even explained in the Help Post.

Two things. One I derped sorry :). Two Sorry about not using spoilers I don't post big things that often.
I want to thank you; this is the first time that I've seen a list of all of them in one place (and some of those I haven't seen listed before).
I'm glad to see that you are linking to the official download sites (mojang or amazon).
ThreeEyes, I did see your post, but forum errors are preventing me from replying to it directly. These are not altered jars; the links are the official downloads. And yes, if you are using the latest official launcher, it can download and run them directly, but some people can't or don't run the latest launcher.
Yes, some people use magic launcher to run older versions of the game.
That means they will need a Forge-modified copy of the version-specific Minecraft jar file for that particular version as opposed to the plain un-modified version-specific copy of that Minecraft jar file (which, again is obtained automatically anyhow through the default Minecraft launcher).
Are you aware that Forge does not need to modify the jar, and has not needed to for a long time now? You can run the forge jar as an executable, and it will locate the minecraft jar if it is in the same directory, allowing forge and minecraft to co-exist without either being altered on disk.
And if they do need a forge-modified version for earlier versions of forge, or a mod-loader / modloader-MP version, then they need the unaltered jar to start with. And distributing a forge-modified minecraft jar would break so many rules it is a non-starter.
Let me see if I understand this correctly:
In one sentence, you express concern that these are altered to include some virus; in another sentence you express concern that they don't contain forge?

Have you played the game in the vanilla launcher at least once?

Yes, since the post I have tried deleting everything and redownloading minecraft then magiclauncher, among other things.
also @threeeye I have just finished reading that post for the 5th time, it does not include specific information on how to create spoilers, it is simply shown, with no explanation as part of the images tutorial, I have read section 2 which is all about java, which judging from a glance at the message I had in my logs my problem isn't, also why have you highlighted the "desktop" portion of my logs, I don't see how that relates to anything, seeing as how I made reference to the fact that I had my files in a custom location which was specified possible unless you cannot have your files in a folder in a folder in a folder in a folder on your desktop, in which case can I have them on a seperate hard drive to my magic launcher and official minecraft folder as my boot drive is extremely close to being full. also if you were trying to direct me to the portion of the "posting help post" in which it explains what information to include, when you said
Also, well, try reading the whole Help Post. There's other important stuff there that pertains to you.
Then I would like you to note that I did not include a screenshot of my mods page because I mentioned that I have no mods installed
and I did not include any of my hard ware specifications as I did not see how, excluding the operating system, it would be of any use, however if you must know

Edit: I just noticed that when you quoted my old post it said "Desktop/Minecraft/Basic1.6.4/versions/1.6.4/1.6.4.jar" etc.
it should say, because this is where it is and where i told it it is "Desktop/Minecraft/Basic1.6.4/Application Support/Library/Minecraft" etc. because for some reason it demanded to have the "Application Support/Library/Minecraft" as the last three folders??!?!?!??!?
And yes, if you are using the latest official launcher, it can download and run them directly, but some people can't or don't run the latest launcher.
It appears his posts were removed anyhow as they should have been. Got to thinking about it and they were off-topic anyhow. And, they just added confusion about the whole Magic Launcher setup. But, as for not being able to download or run them directly, you're saying people that have a hacked version of Minecraft. Of course, that's not allowed. So, that would have been yet another reason those shouldn't have been posted here.
Are you aware that Forge does not need to modify the jar, and has not needed to for a long time now? You can run the forge jar as an executable, and it will locate the minecraft jar if it is in the same directory, allowing forge and minecraft to co-exist without either being altered on disk.
Which, again, would have made it off-topic as it had nothing to do with Magic Launcher.
Let me see if I understand this correctly:
In one sentence, you express concern that these are altered to include some virus; in another sentence you express concern that they don't contain forge?
This is why some people need everything explained to them in excruciating detail and why others then think things might be too wordy. Altered via being modified to have a virus in them is different than being altered to have been modified with Forge (if needed for some situations, of course the virus would not be needed). But, regardless, that is off-topic too and it also happens to be a moot point now since those posts were apparently and appropriately deleted by a moderator. Thanks to the moderator by the way.
also @threeeye I have just finished reading that post for the 5th time, it does not include specific information on how to create spoilers, it is simply shown, ...
As you said yourself, EXAMPLES ARE SHOWN. If you can't figure out how to use spoiler tags from the Examples Shown at the Very Bottom of the Help Post, I'm not sure how any other "help" will allow you to resolve any of your issues.
... , I have read section 2 which is all about java, which judging from a glance at the message I had in my logs my problem isn't, also why have you highlighted the "desktop" portion of my logs,
You only took a glance? Okay, let's try this even though I doubt even this will help but it's only a small part of the bigger picture, etc, etc. Sixth paragraph down in the "Java Memory Allocation" Spoiler of Sub-Section 2b of Section 2 of the Help Post.

A bit overkill but more information is always better than not enough. Unfortunately, since certain information wasn't provided to begin with (like the Advanced Tab which still appears to be missing), I'd also have to go back and review what the problem was as originally stated. I may go do that later.
One way to try and get around the memory cap of the 32-bit edition of Java is to try and force Minecraft or Magic Launcher to use the 64-bit edition of Java instead on 64-bit Operating Systems (OS) that also have the 64-bit edition of Java installed. To do this, you would add the -d64 parameter to the parameters field on the Advanced Tab in the Magic Launcher setup for any particular profile you create.
...
If you're running a 64-bit Operating System (OS) and also have the 64-bit edition of Java installed, you can also try to prevent memory issues by also using the -d64 paramemter in the parameters field on the Advanced Tab of the setup screen for any particular profile you create in Magic Launcher.
Don’t bother. This parameter does nothing unless you’re using Solaris.
Yes, since the post I have tried deleting everything and redownloading minecraft then magiclauncher, among other things.
Just to be clear. You redownloaded Minecraft and then ran it using the vanilla Mojang launcher (not Magic Launcher)? Make sure you do that and it works before trying anything else.
Is that running from /Users/SlipperyPete/Library/Application Support/minecraft ?
I really think your life would be easier if you just let Minecraft use the folder it wants and move other things around to make room. If you find it inconvenient navigating to that folder you can always alias or link it somewhere else, can’t you?
Edit: I just noticed that when you quoted my old post it said "Desktop/Minecraft/Basic1.6.4/versions/1.6.4/1.6.4.jar" etc.
it should say, because this is where it is and where i told it it is "Desktop/Minecraft/Basic1.6.4/Application Support/Library/Minecraft" etc. because for some reason it demanded to have the "Application Support/Library/Minecraft" as the last three folders??!?!?!??!?
That just sounds like you’re trying to put Minecraft somewhere the vanilla launcher can’t find it. Go back to the default folder.
Disclaimer: the last time I really used a Mac it was a small beige box that they later called Classic.
But for some reason when loading mods nothing works and I mean nothing can start MC but only the forge versions works and the mods are not working or not found.
...
I would just like a plain and simple explanation of how it should work and how to get it working
Without the missing information, I would "guess" Section 4b.
A lot of the people that needed to see the helpful information (such sa solutions to common problems and updated setup instructions etc) ignored it anyhow. Those that did find it helpful didn't post anything saying so making it appear the Help Post was not needed.

I am attempting to use some customized memory settings. What I get is:
So lets break that long line down:
I want to use a maximum of 400 MB for the heap. But I want to start with much less.
Between the java interpreter, out-of-heap graphic memory, and lots of other things, the client runs close to a gig. It's the 400 pound walrus of processes on my system -- and I need to trim it.
Magic launcher is making the assumption that the worst-case memory allocation becomes the normal memory allocation.
That is something that cannot be overriden by the user, as magic launcher will stick that after any other option the user has specified.

Could someone tell me whats wrong?
Pete;
You omitted the most important part! It's a Mac. How are we supposed to know if you don't tell us?
For some reason I don't understand Mac users seldom help other Mac users, good luck.

I extremely doubt that.
Wait, haven't we been through at least some of this stuff before? Like, what to provide etc? I think I was still waiting on screenshots for your previous issue too.
But, more directly to your current issue:
Section 2 ...
Of the Help Post ...
Just ... One ... Post ... Immediately ... Above ... Yours ... On ... The ... Same ... Page.
Well, there's a good place to start.
This is one of those instances where I actually think you're allocating too little (usually it's the opposite).
Again, ... Section 2 ... Of The Help Post ... JUST ... ONE ... POST ... IMMEDIATELY ... ABOVE ... YOURS ... ON ... THE ... SAME ... PAGE.
You do know, don't you, that memory gets swapped back and forth to the hard disk right?
Start there.
Also, ...
Section 2 ...
Of The Help Post ...
Just ... Two ... Posts ... Above ... Yours.
Also, well, try reading the whole Help Post. There's other important stuff there that pertains to you.
Maybe you should try starting there.
You know, ... in the Help Post ... Just ... Four ... Posts ... Above ... Yours ... On ... The ... Same ... Page.

Yes, since the post I have tried deleting everything and redownloading minecraft then magiclauncher, among other things.
also @threeeye I have just finished reading that post for the 5th time, it does not include specific information on how to create spoilers, it is simply shown, with no explanation as part of the images tutorial, I have read section 2 which is all about java, which judging from a glance at the message I had in my logs my problem isn't, also why have you highlighted the "desktop" portion of my logs, I don't see how that relates to anything, seeing as how I made reference to the fact that I had my files in a custom location which was specified possible unless you cannot have your files in a folder in a folder in a folder in a folder on your desktop, in which case can I have them on a seperate hard drive to my magic launcher and official minecraft folder as my boot drive is extremely close to being full. also if you were trying to direct me to the portion of the "posting help post" in which it explains what information to include, when you said
Then I would like you to note that I did not include a screenshot of my mods page because I mentioned that I have no mods installed
and I did not include any of my hard ware specifications as I did not see how, excluding the operating system, it would be of any use, however if you must know

It appears his posts were removed anyhow as they should have been. Got to thinking about it and they were off-topic anyhow. And, they just added confusion about the whole Magic Launcher setup. But, as for not being able to download or run them directly, you're saying people that have a hacked version of Minecraft. Of course, that's not allowed. So, that would have been yet another reason those shouldn't have been posted here.
Which, again, would have made it off-topic as it had nothing to do with Magic Launcher.
Eleven ... Posts ... Above ... Yours ... On ... The ... Same ... Page.
Section # 3 may be a good place to start.
As you said yourself, EXAMPLES ARE SHOWN. If you can't figure out how to use spoiler tags from the Examples Shown at the Very Bottom of the Help Post, I'm not sure how any other "help" will allow you to resolve any of your issues.
Although, maybe this is more your style:
Link Removed
You only took a glance? Okay, let's try this even though I doubt even this will help but it's only a small part of the bigger picture, etc, etc. Sixth paragraph down in the "Java Memory Allocation" Spoiler of Sub-Section 2b of Section 2 of the Help Post.
A bit overkill but more information is always better than not enough. Unfortunately, since certain information wasn't provided to begin with (like the Advanced Tab which still appears to be missing), I'd also have to go back and review what the problem was as originally stated. I may go do that later.
Just install minecraft forge
after that select minecraft.exe located in .minecraft folder
just log-in internet required
should looks like this
select the profile or you should create profile for forge and click play
and then exit the game
go to magic launcher
select environment choose forge<version>
then add mods
here's my screenshot
Don’t bother. This parameter does nothing unless you’re using Solaris.
Just to be clear. You redownloaded Minecraft and then ran it using the vanilla Mojang launcher (not Magic Launcher)? Make sure you do that and it works before trying anything else.
Is that running from /Users/SlipperyPete/Library/Application Support/minecraft ?
Does that folder exist? Some info here.
I really think your life would be easier if you just let Minecraft use the folder it wants and move other things around to make room. If you find it inconvenient navigating to that folder you can always alias or link it somewhere else, can’t you?
That just sounds like you’re trying to put Minecraft somewhere the vanilla launcher can’t find it. Go back to the default folder.
Disclaimer: the last time I really used a Mac it was a small beige box that they later called Classic.
Uh, no you didn't. Section 5b especially.
Without the missing information, I would "guess" Section 4b.
