I didn't know how to use MCNostalgia (I just couldn't), so I went on YouTube and searched up "MCNostalgia tutorial." One was really helpful, and I managed to get it to work... sort of. When I placed the Infdev patch into MCNostalgia and started the program, it said "minecraft.jar not found", so I went into my backup folder and moved the minecraft.jar I had in, and I restarted it, but it still came up with an error. "Make sure you're using an unmodified version," which I am. I closed the program and said "Bah!", then I went back to my minecraft.exe, but it had to reinstall, but it never did, and no matter how long I wait, it's always stuck at the "extracting natives" screen or the "Done loading" screen. Any assistance would be most appreciated, or do I have to reinstall Minecraft altogether?
Bit of a pipedream request here (but it's not "will the author come back?", in fact it doesn't actually need to involve him), but assuming that MCNostalgia uses a standard patch format (quite sure it does), I must inquire -- is there anyone with an Infdev distribution from about March 18th - Late April/May of 2010 that would be able to create a patch (that either works with 1.7.2 or 1.6.6, I have both unmodified) workable via MCNostalgia (for convenience)? I really want to get at the generation code featured from about that era and compare it to the modern generation code, and, hopefully, be able to create a replication of the generation from that time, as the early Infdev 3D stuff was easily some of the best terrain I've ever seen from a procedural generation algorithim.
What happens when you switch from a Minecraft Version (In my case, Beta 1.7.3) with the new world system into a Minecraft Version with the OLD world system (One I want is Alpha v1.1.2_01)? I think the worlds get deleted.
Because the last page pages never said this before, 1.6.6, 1.7, 1.7_01, and 1.7.2 (and 1.7.3 once 1.8 comes :biggrin.gif:) aren't included in the individual nor all patch downloads.

Am I the only one who has sound bugs for all version prior to Alpha 1.1.2? Before that version I don't have sand sounds, animal sounds, etc. Also, great work on this! I sure hope you continue this for the future!
I cant figure out how top use it..... I want mc alpha 1.2.3 but it when i try to patch it says:ERROR Checksum failed. Your minecraft.jar cannot be patched. Make sure you're using a fresh, unmodified copy of Minecraft.

You're probably a Beta buyer or late Alpha buyer, so I'll make this short: There weren't any.
(If you really want to hear more go read the history of the version changes on the McWiki, it's hours of fun staring at a block of text.

I bought the game a year ago yesterday. I guess I forgot that there weren't any sounds back then. Anyway, thanks for the help!
The problem with older alpha versions, as far as I am aware, is that it is trying to grab the sounds from Minecraft.net but said sounds no longer exist there (only the sounds needed for classic exist, since the rest are now downloaded from the Amazon S3 server). A lot of the sounds (like sand/cloth breaking, ect.) existed during Indev and Infdev, actually.
You must do following to downgrade with my patches before using MCNostalgia:
You must have in your .minecraft/bin folder unmodified minecraft.jar (version Beta 1.7.3, MD5 checksum: eae3353fdaa7e10a59b4cb5b45bfa10d).
You must overwrite file checksum in your 'MCNostalgia/bin' folder with checksum17_03.
Rename downloaded patch file (1703to*.ptch) to minecraft.patch.
For downgrading to lower version than Beta 1.6.6:
You must have in your .minecraft/bin folder unmodified minecraft.jar (version Beta 1.7.3, MD5 checksum: eae3353fdaa7e10a59b4cb5b45bfa10d).
You must overwrite file checksum in your MCNostalgia/bin folder with checksum17_03.
Rename downloaded patch file 1703to1606.ptch to minecraft.patch.
Apply patching process with MCNostagia. Now you have Beta 1.6.6. (MD5: ce80072464433cd5b05d505aa8ff29d1)
Rename folder MCNostalgia/backup. There is backuped version Beta 1.7.3.
Overwrite file checksum in your MCNostalgia/bin folder with checksum1606.
Rename downloaded patch file (1606to*.ptch) to minecraft.patch or use "official" patch.
Apply patching process with MCNostagia.
Patch 1606to1202.ptch is used to create unmodified Beta 1.2_02 in contrast with "official" patch.
If you have unmodified Beta 1.7 version (1.7.0, released before 30th June 16:33) could you send me or its patch?
I am searching old server version too (Beta 1.6_03, Beta 1.6_02, Beta 1.6_01, Beta 1.6, Beta 1.5_01 and older than Beta 1.2_01).
Thank you so much, this is a bit difficult to understand at first but it works. Thanks to you I can play Minecraft with all it's Alpha goodness. Maybe make or find someone to make a video tutorial for those who are as confused as I first was?
Okay, sorry all. It's not dead. The cosmos was out to get me. Chased me away from my computer for a period of three months. Succeeded for at least one. Seriously though, if I didn't know better, I would think that somebody was purposely trying to sabotage me and stop me from using my computer.
Patches have been updated for 1.7.3, sorry about the severe lateness of this. Yes, I did manage to get 1.7 and 1.7_01 and 1.7.2 as well. I will be addressing any issues anybody has shortly by editing this post. Again, sorry all. Just a crazy series of unfortunate events.
I have a suggestion for your brilliant MCNostalgia tool. You currently provide individual downloads, why not have a input in the MCNostalgia configurator for specifying the version you want to downgrade/upgrade to?
Example.
Q. Which version patches do you require?
A. 1.5_01
(Reads data from each individual file on the server for 1.5_01).
(Does the MCNostalgia magic).
Simples.
This has been suggested multiple times. I have considered doing it, though not via downloading from the server, as then I would lose pretty much all adf.ly profits.
O'rlly? With Adfly I know I support the author and I know where I'm downloading from, it won't be a random link to god knows what site.
I find myself -always- using Adfly if I can.
Anyway, on topic. I wanted to patch my MC back to 1.6.6 in order to get a mod working again but it won't work: ERROR: Checksum failed. Your mincreaft.jar cannot be patch. Make sure you're using a fresh, unmodified copy of Minecraft.
Following this message, I opted to delete my entire Minecraft folder and redownload it in game, patching me back to a clean 1.7. That did not make a difference however as I get the same error. Is this program not updated to support downpatching from 1.7?
Because of biomes. Post 1.2.0 terrain, the same terrain today, is pretty meh. I MISS CLASSIC GRASS!
OT: Something is really broken about the infdev patch that was included. After about 45 seconds the screen always goes black after it's CPU usage maxes out.
Edit: Turns out it is running out of memory. Using a java code program, I run mine with about 2g Ram allowed to it.
From the Task Manager, it takes about 1.1 Gigabytes of RAM once it has loaded a world. Oh, glitchy pre-alpha.
I have a problem, I use 7-Zip to open up the McNostalga and when I try running the program in the file, it pops up and then quickly disappears... If someone could help it would be amazing
You can't run it out of the zip, you have to extract them. Also, I've moved on to using solely 7z for the archives, as it saves a little bit of space with the patches. And a little is a lot on a webserver.
"sometimes, wizards are so awesome, it hurts"
Whoever said anything was possible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Yes it does change the textures. If the texture didn't change, that's because that version had it like that already.
I have indev. It does not work, I've had people try to modify it to get it to work, I haven't heard of any success.
I noticed that, fixed. :3

Thank you for showing your support. :biggrin.gif:
And you're a dickhead.
Huh, I've never had that actually.
I would love to. If somebody has them, I'll gladly take them. Hell, if someone has pre 0.30 creative, I will massacre them for it.
