So, I'm making a resource pack where my inventory screen is mostly transparent. It's looking really good, however, the text on the guis that says stuff like "Inventory",and "Crafting" is dark gray, so It blends in the the gray-tinted background when you are in your inventory. Is there a way to either get rid of the background tint, or to change the text? (Which is not on the interface texture BTW) I know I've seen it done before, with different fonts in the inventory or crafting table, but how would you do it?
The file you want to edit is in .minecraft\resourcepacks\YOUR PACK\assets\minecraft\textures\font
ascii.png is the main font, but I would suggest also doing at least unicode_page_00.png (which is the biggest pain in the backside) so more accented characters sort of match the main font. You can make them any colour you like, in any font. I hand-wrote mine in gold, with a black drop-shadow, so they stand out against everything.
So would I just change the font in those files to orange? (Because that's the color I'm trying to change it to)
yep! They're transparent gifs, so just lock the opacity of the layer (the method is slightly different programme to programme), and take a big old brush and just paint over everything. So long as the opacity is locked, youðll only wind up changing the letters, and shouldn't wind up painting the background.
The text in the inventory and gui screens is dark gray, but in the png files you told me, all the text was white? Are you sure those are the files used in the guis?

You see the words that say Crafting? (This is not my inventory, btw)
So, I colored the ascii.png file all orange. It worked with the regular game text, all the menus and stuff had orange text.
However, the inventory text was still dark gray like that. I know I've seen it changed before, any more ideas?
This is my resource pack inventory. As you can see the text on the items like the numbers is red, but the Crafting text is still gray. That little orange box was something I was trying to put behind it, but didn't size it right.
But do you know what, I think that might actually be an MCPatcher feature, now that I think about it. I thought mine were in yellow, but I checked and they're black as well. I'm not actually sure how custom colours works, but I think that's what would change the text, in this case. My suggestions would be to go ask on the thread for that, or just re-design your GUI to have lighter backgrounds (not orange; that's a bit too bright) where the text goes.
Is there a way to get rid of that dark background tint? I didn't add that in. If not, I guess I can just adjust my orange boxes, they look kinda nice actualy.
I dunno. I like it, so I've never done anything but add a second layer to it to make it darker. If there is a way, it would probably be through MCPatcher, but don't quote me on that.
The reason it does that is because the game automatically darkens the text, and since it's orange, darker than white, it only made it worse. The place you really want to go to is assets/minecraft/lang. The lang files contain all the labels in the game (names of blocks, items, the GUI text, etc...), you can color code the text and make it lighter there.
hmm...I found a lot of things that looks like it;s "containers" for the inventory, furnace, chests, and the gui interfaces, but I don't really see any color codes.
ALSO, en_US.lang was not their, this is in en_GB, which is great Britain I suppose?

You need to add the color codes to the start of the entry yourself. Read this for more information.
And it doesn't matter which language you edit, as long as that's the one that you select in-game. Because you need to have the language selected to apply any of the changes, it's probably best to edit the default en_US.lang.

Can you post a screen shot?
What your GUI looks like with the text, if you can.

Try editing the file on
.minecraft\versions\1.7.2\1.7.2.jar\assets\minecraft\lang\en_US.lang
You can edit it with a simple text editor.
For the Crafting text, search for
container.crafting=Crafting
Edit the lang file.
Instead of container.crafting=Crafting, type container.crafting=§fCrafting or something.
Had the same problem with JS pack.
