It seems greedy, it seems blatant, and I cringe whenever I see small texture packs offering only an ad.fly link, and no other alternate link.
Rule #6:Adf.ly is not to be used as a quick scam to get money with each click equaling about $0.00125. It is not for that. adf.ly is to be used for packs that have alot of followers and people who are looking to support your work but that do not have the money to donate. Offer a Main Link (adf.ly) and a Direct Link to download your pack, allowing people to chose to help you out of not.
I wish more people followed this, it seems upsetting that people need money as an incentive to work on something that's free. I for one, use the Curse client for all my downloads and have no plans to offer or use adf.ly in any way. I have a job, I don't make textures for cash or income, I make it for fun.
Now, now. Don't get me wrong, I understand things such as Aether, DokuCraft, LastDays. ect.
Really HUGE packs, offering a second link.
My main problem is average or small texture packs using adf.ly and only adf.ly as their download link.
I don't mind going through an adfly link, but it is annoying when it is abused as a cash grab scheme or is offered as the only download link. Also, you say you make textures for fun and not money, well why not make a bit of money at the same time
Also, my texture pack is a "themed" texture pack.
I'm certain using my texture pack as a way to gain money would ALSO be a violation of copyright laws... |3
If the maker actually worked really hard on their work, I usually click adfly to support them. But if it's an obvious troll or trash, no.
I don't have a problem clicking on them either.
But when it's the "only" option. That's obviously done out of greed, I dunno. I don't like greed. x3 just me.
Well, I am planning to release my first texture pack with an ad.fly link. Having spent 200+ hours on it, I feel like it's not a completely ridiculous idea. I do plan on including a direct link, but when I go to texture packs, I hardly ever click on the direct link.

I've been working on my texture pack since 2010 around September.
I still, no matter what. Don't find my work as something that is deserving of money, it's done for fun, it's done for others.
All I desire is feedback and people telling me how my texture pack looks. :3
I love when people make a bucket-fill pack and only provide an adf.ly link. It gives all the fun of trolling, while being 100% serious.
I have said this before(?), adf.ly links need to be regulated. Well-known and upcoming packs and artists could have the option of having adf.ly, while a pack posted today could not.
Since that would literally solve nothing, I propose there be code that allows only sectional moderators(?) to add adf.ly links to a post, and that they be flat-out impossible to post as a response.
I am more bothered by mediafire, I always get a pop up when I click the download, or it redirects me to a virus site and I have to open task manager to close it after forcing shut down for 5 minutes.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The official Bluebird continuation is underway! Please come and help keep the pack alive!

OMG YES! I agree it is annoying when things that show lack of effort only provide an adfly link, but eh, what are you going to do? Adfly is harmless. Mediafire on the other hand, has annoying adds, and always gives me a pop up.

Get AdBlocker.
Also, I hate the new sh*t packs using it as the only option, not with multiple options. I hate how they just break the rules. Also, I don't mind the packs that have it as an option, unless the other one is some foreign or hard to use download site. I don't mind the hard worked on packs with it as an option.
I don't mind adf.ly, as long as it's something worth clicking for. I absolutely hate when adf.ly is misused, however, like the one time when someone put links to screenshots, info, and download behind adf.ly.
Not a single response to my proposal, at all. ```
I've actually never had a problem with mediafire. Nothing more than what's on the page with the download.
Y'know, a few weeks ago (Or was it months?) somebody posted a pack that had an adf.ly link that said "Adf.ly" and another adf.ly link that said "Mediafire" . . .It was default without anything added.
As someone who's worked as an artist professionally, I have no problem with people wanting to be compensated for their work. If an artist wants to 'charge' people an adf.ly hit in order to get their pack, then that's fine by me. Yes, I feel that it's good practice to allow a normal link as well, but if an artist feels that he or she deserves that one-thousandth of a penny for his or her work, even if it's not good work, then so be it. I won't begrudge them that.
Does Curse pay more than adf.ly or about the same?
curse pays nothing actually. It's useful in the sense that you have one download link that is automatically updated, so when you share your link to multiple sites, you don't have to go and change those links for every site.
As you normally would with a mediafire link and such.
It also have a nice interface with ratings, info, and such. Check it out sometime.

Like the HD Patcher.
I always use the ad.fly link for the HD Patcher because I really appreciate it.
There's yet more to come!

IT's absurd and getting out of hand.

Plenty have earned it, though it is certainly out of hand. That'll happen. The wrong people try to make money through incorrect means.
Some people don't see that, which is just GAH.
Why not use some other easier uploader, or use the Curse Client, which is really convenient.
