So, some of you may know (although most of you probably don't) that I've been working on a texture pack for some time now. However, I didn't like the general look, colour flavours and lack of effort that was being put into it, and there was too much to replace, so I've just scrapped it and started again.
The pack will be called Crimsobrite, and the general theme is a colourful, high, semi-RPG look.
I'm currently about 3/4 of the way through the blocks, and plan to have them along with the items done before the official 1.5 update.
So, this is my terrain.png so far. Opinions would be good.
Some of these look oddly familiar, but it could be just my brain being overloaded.
It looks very cute, but could you post some ingame shots?
Not exactly, as the program I use to draw the actual textures doesn't support transparency. I use GIMP to add in transparency later, but it completely screws up the palette for some unknown reason, so I just add it in once I've done all the blocks.
And they would probably look familiar to you, as some of the textures were inspired from other packs, most probably Wayukian.

I dread to ask - Are you using MS Paint?
Regardless of the answer, don't use said program, just switch to GIMP altogether.
No, I'm using Grafx2.
I like it because it allows you to hold an entire custom palette that's not a pain in the @ss to access.
In the palette menu, it looks something like this:
However, it can only have 256 different colours at one given time, which is what enticed me to create a pack with the "simple colours" theme.
I've always been a fan of the retro RPG look and I like what you have so far. Your textures are nicely detailed and shaded and generally feel cohesive, with that 16x vibe going on throughout what you have. The use of color is bright without being overtly cheery and is in keeping with the theme you want. I especially like your ore blocks as they're ornate and I think they would act nicely as little accents in builds. I also like how the mycelium grass has been textured -- usually I see that sort of grass blade pattern on 32x+ texture packs. Somehow you made it work really well with the limitations of 16x.
I hope you'll be changing either your cobblestone texture or your gravel one since I believe it's always better to have different textures rather than recolors of things. I feel the same way about your netherrack and glowstone texture; I think that that sort of bubble look works well with the glowstone but not necessarily the netherrack. I'm also not that big of a fan of your watermelon -- everything else is so nicely shaded and rather detailed that the watermelon looks a bit out of place, like it belongs to another texture pack because it's almost too plain. I feel the same way about the stone slabs, aesthetically they're not jiving with your other, more detailed textures. There's a glossy, almost plastic look to that texture.
I also feel like there's an inconsistency with your shading in some cases, for example your wool blocks, oak and dark tree trunks, tilled and the hydrated earth, the huge mushroom stem and the inside mushroom texture use a lot of dithering whereas many of your other textures don't.
These are just my thoughts so feel free to take it or leave it.

Yes, I have noticed these things myself and plan to change some of them. I'm not too big a fan of the gravel either, and the stone slabs were lazily done when I was just starting work on the image. And the tilled dirt looks poo, too.
However, I like the dithered textures (apart from the farmland), because they're meant to represent a sort of crosshatched roughness, especially on the wool, but thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.

Doesn't seem all that NES-ish to me. Reminds me more of Genesis/MegaDrive, probably because the colours are a lot more bold
I still love a lot of what's here c:
You are an awesome texture artist, hands down. One problem though, make sure the background is transparent instead of black, so it won't look weird in game.

Yes, I'm aware of that. The program I use for texturing (because I like the interface) doesn't support transparency, so once I do a texture pack file I move it over to GIMP and add in transparency, then copy-paste textures from a separate file when I want to change them.
You are aware that gimp, and even paint.net can do the same pallet view that what you're using does? and wont mess up the colors to switch back and forth?

Yes, but I've used Grafx2 for a couple of years now, I'm fine with it and like the interface, and there's a nice little palette hotbar you can flick through. There's probably something like that in GIMP or paint.net that I just haven't discovered, but I don't really want to switch now.
GrafX2 is an awesome little program, i still use it in addition to PS BECAUSE it's so simple.
Yours looks more complex, is it another skin or... ?
Well, I'm using the aura skin. Yours looks like it's using the DPaint skin or something, and it's adapted to use the whites in your palette. I also probably have different settings like colours per column/row in the palette, window size etc.

...But that's just my opinion.
