Invictus is a high definition 64x graphics replacement for Minecraft with an emphasis on clean artwork and minimal detail. The artwork is a continuation of Soartex, a texture pack by Soar49. Invictus refines many of the elements of Soartex and adds thousands of textures block models and a custom shader.
The Invictus continuation is by Shoeboxam and Goldbattle!
Shoeboxam: I maintained and updated Soartex Fanver with the great help of the Fanver community for its initial two years. In August 2013 I organized my repertoire of content I made for Fanver in a separate pack and began texturing the missing gaps with GoldBattle to create Invictus. In December I resigned from my position in Fanver in order to focus on this project. I tend to make textures, look back at them a week later and decide to remake them. If there is a texture you don't like, feel free to give a comment.
Goldbattle: He has been the web developer for Fanver and has played a big role in building up the Soartex Fanver mod support. He always gives himself a hard time about his textures, but I know better. He created the Soartex "Mod Patcher," a lightweight Java program that downloads and installs texture patches for mods. Gold also created a customizer, got me comfortable with Github and even built our website from scratch. He's made scripts, programs, launchers, and more. I continually learn new things from him, he's just fantastic.
You mix soartex, can create a continuation and can distribute.
And, a customizer is continued and it can release to the public freely.
Many textures look similar or appear to be from the Fanver continuation. Are these textures stolen?
All graphics added by Invictus were created by either Shoeboxam and GoldBattle. When I wrote the Soartex Fanver license, I included this line:
[quote=Fanver License]The original artist of any texture may reuse their own texture elsewhere This permits us to reuse our own repertoire of content we created for Fanver in Invictus instead.
There are textures missing, this pack is not complete.
We know this pack is not complete. We are currently in beta. We are always creating more textures! Quality, not quantity.
Do I need to use Optifine or MCPatcher?
The pack can be played without the two, but we HIGHLY recommend using them. So many of the amazing features including ctm, custom skies, and special effects rely on you having these add-ons installed.
This is similar to Soartex Fanver, what makes you different?
Invictus has a focus on aliasing reduction and reducing tile patterning. Much of the world-gen and many of the blocks in the original pack have been updated with Repeat CTM or remade to accomplish this. This includes stone, grass and gravel, for example.
Where can I get updates on what is happening with the pack?
Here's an old version of the logo: http://i.imgur.com/6zTtgee.png
I decided to go with letters that were more solid and the white clouds blended too much with the background here. I think the change was a good one.
Cows and pigs. I'm definitely feeling like making some cows and pigs.
There is already an official soartex continuation.
Also, you need soar's consent.
The original Soartex thread allows for continuations and distribution. Though, it should definitely be more evident in this thread's OP that a lot of the textures are Soar's work, not these guys'.

I am aware of the original continuation, I compiled and released updates for it, created many of the new textures and administrated the Fanver forums over the past two years under the alias of Shoeboxam. I recently stepped down from my position in order to pursue a private continuation and acquire more jurisdiction over my work. I also hope to take the pack in a different direction by reducing aliasing and patterning, retaining bush-like foliage and color depth, and creating nearly everything by hand.
About Soar's consent, he left this on his thread when he left: You mix soartex, can create a continuation and can distribute. And, a customizer is continued and it can release to the public freely.
He has never replied to any messages or made any posts since, so I'm using the exact same permissions I had when I helped found Fanver.
EDIT: I sound like a jerk here. I didn't mean it that way.
The original Soartex thread allows for continuations and distribution. Though, it should definitely be more evident in this thread's OP that a lot of the textures are Soar's work, not these guys'.
I agree that the creator of the original pack deserves credit, which is why I noted that this continuation is based off of Soar's work and included a link to his pack in the introduction. I'd be happy to add more, though. I would also like to mention that there are many similarities between this pack and Fanver because both packs share both my work and Soar's work. I'm finding myself remaking quite a bit of my old work and soar's work, so as time passes Invictus and Fanver will look less and less alike. Regardless, I'm not here to take credit for anything I didn't do. I can make some changes to the site to better reflect this as well.
It's hard to explain, but this pack just looks... Right. Like, I can't explain why I love the textures, but they just feel like they are how Minecraft should look. Just... Just keep doing what you are doing, this is one of the best packs I have ever seen.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.
Meh, no worries. I would have had the same assumptions if I were in your shoes. I hope my message above didn't sound snarky at all, sometimes I can give the wrong impression.
EDIT: Nice texture pack @samohtj. I started learning Gimp and graphic editing through Minecraft as well and have just continued practicing nonstop. I hope to create another public pack of my own from scratch sometime, but the style of Soartex has always been right up my alley. I honestly can't imagine creating textures in a different style that would interest me more. Time will tell! I just want to say kudos for working from scratch. I definitely prefer "Illustrious."
Well to be honest most of the work we see here can actually be found in Soartex Fanver. I just see this as another continuation of Soar49's work.
Well, I did develop and update Soartex Fanver for two years. Fanver and Invictus share both my work and Soar49's work, so at this time there are many similarities. You're right, this is a second continuation.
Yes indeed I have downloaded the pack and that's why I'm saying that most of the textures can be found in Soartex Fanver. I can even say more... Almost all the blocks are Soar49's textures that are free to use since he left his project and I could name them as well but that would be a pain to read.
Yep! Fanver certainly has more completeness than Invictus does, which is why I'm still calling this an alpha- it's very incomplete. Fanver is definitely a community work, and many of the textures within it were created by other, very fantastic artists.
The last 20 or so changes to Invictus can be seen here: http://invictus-hd.c...visions/vanilla
It happens to show content that is not a part of Fanver... I've remade gravel and planks, made a new set of tools, added a new quartz set, hay bale, mycelium, podzol and coal block. All 17 of the hardened clays and red sand are new and each have unique textures. Re-balanced grasses, which I've spent far too much time on. New GUIs, font and HUDs, 16 new CTM sets of stained glass, CTM grass sides in the roofed forest biome and the enchant table. I added repeat CTM for grass, netherrack, gravel, stone and quite a few other textures. I've made a number of items, although admittedly, there is an insane number of them left to take care of.
Of course, I've been donating all of my work to Fanver up until late December, so the list of textures unique to Invictus is much less than it would have been. Take a look at the double high rose and fern, acacia log and leaves, dark oak log, daisy, allium, and packed ice for a few recent examples of this.I definitely feel there is substance to this continuation in its current state that helps it stand on its own. Aaand we'll have to see where it goes from here. It's certainly a long term project and takes quite a bit of time to develop something like this out.
I've been unusually busy this week and won't have much time to spend next week, but I'm planning on streaming this weekend on Twitch.tv, if anyone would like to chat then.
I have the pack myself I can see the changes that were made, no need to name them
I just wanted to say to PopuliMinistrum that most of the work comes from Soar49 and it's still far from being unique like Fanver has been doing so far.
I just feel that at the moment, this project, due to still being in alpha stage, is a ripoff of Fanver for the simple fact that most of the textures used by Invictus are from Soartex Fanver itself, the official continuation of Soartex, initially started by Soar49.
This is my humble opinion, you can now beat me up.
I added the changes to make it clear to new folks that this is a legitimate pack and not just some form of mixed rehash of Fanver.
Soar49 still isn't aware of Fanver (he didn't start it, Balavoine, Raheem and I started Fanver). For this project I separated and used my repertoire of work and assets I personally made. I did happen to give permission to Fanver to use them- but the assets are still mine. I'm not ripping Fanver off- because the additions to Soar's work are entirely mine and Goldbattle's. I hope this doesn't sound like I'm beating you up, I'm trying to make sure the facts are set straight.
I'm continuing my same work! But under my own name instead.
I've been making some more changes... http://imgur.com/a/gmhds
First off, a diorite block. I also remade the jungle log texture, but the dark CTM shadow may be too dark.
I also reverted bricks to Soar's original cobblestone. Again, I'm not sure about this and would like feedback. The large bricks had the tendency to look "fuzzy" and these don't seem to have enough depth (Goldbattle's critiquing woot)
I also created some ingots, bricks, the dusts, blaze rod, some of the dyes and bone meal. There's a screenshot in there that shows quite a few of those items. A new brewing stand can also be seen there
The grass color in the plains has also been edited, it was a crazy yellow in the above screenshot, and now it's back to a green: http://imgur.com/a/HGl08
Should I go ahead and update the pack or should I try to space out releases to make them larger?
Also, what are the thoughts on the login system to download these early versions of the pack?
I've made some more additions: http://imgur.com/a/1k6qe
When it comes to mobs, it takes the smallest little tweaks to the eyes to completely change their emotion. I feel like the current mob eyes are close, after quite a bit of tinkering.
I also added two versions of each brick, one for the side and one for the top/bottom. The side brick has more shading on the bottom of the brick and the top/bottom texture has even lighting. It's a subtle change, but I like how it smooths out the top and bottom faces of the bricks.
I also made a set of CTM ornate bricks, but decided to leave it as an alt. That's something that would go into the patcher, for example.
I'm debating updating the pack now or waiting longer. Still not sure.
Goldbattle has been working on a patcher, and I've been doing what I can to help with that... still a long way to go on it, but at least it looks pretty.
I'm considering changing the stone to have layers based on Y-depth or completely different textures based on the biome. I'd like to see some brown stone pockets, for example. I might be able to hook into the river biome to make it generate more like pockets.
Really, we need to make an account on your website? Just put the download for everyone. You want more feedback, don't you?
Me and Goldbattle were planning on leaving it sign-up only until it gets out of beta. We felt like it was worth trying out, just to see what the reaction to it was. We're both planning on removing the sign up requirement soon, I just want to talk with him and make sure. I do certainly like feedback.
For those who absolutely don't want to sign up, I've been working on it on Github, and there's a way to download the repository as a .zip (which functions as a texture pack if you drag the "Invictus_Textures-master" folder inside into your resource packs folder). https://github.com/I...victus_Textures
That link will have the freshest textures... It will even include the stone pocket CTM I've been playing around with tonight: http://imgur.com/a/EUisE -pockets in beaches, transition biomes and chunks in jungle mountains and mushroom islands http://imgur.com/a/aEC7g -replaces all stone in all desert biomes and both ocean biomes
I was just hoping to bring back one of Soar's old textures and add more variety underground, and figured I could do so with CTM.
EDIT: And a few textures for special dirt that cannot become grass: http://imgur.com/a/MvpmC
I like the additions you've made to Soartex. I prefer this pack to the fanver so far. I like the items and I like what you did with the brick.
My main criticism is that I'd like to see a bit more variety in some things. I wish different planks had different textures instead of just recolors.
I played around with the planks for a bit...
The first is just an offest. Then I tried having 2, 4 and 5 planks. Two and four plank textures are seamless on the sides. I also have a rougher texture and checker texture from my repertoire. The wood on the bottom row is by Soar, and beside it is mine with framing added.
I'm thinking about adding some CTM to the planks anyways- make them seamless, but have framed edges. I'm throwing around some ideas to mix them up. Maybe there should be some more highlights on the planks, too.
