this is important, so im writing it down before i forget...

ive FINALLY had an idea for windows. round ones.

ive never seen round windows in minecraft. they will of course be square blocks, but they will be round windows with metal framing. as large a circle as possible, with minimum of 2px buffer. maybe something like a fractal effect with smaller round windows in the corners. not sure about this.

yeah, ive already tested and found that the one i have for default currently looks horrible on fences. too bad, too, since it goes on stairs and slabs perfectly.

ive not yet figured it out - is it possible to make stairs out of any planks except standard?

this work for planks? default ones? or should i desaturate a bit and go redder?

like... a blotchy faded look.

left side or right side? which is better? on the left, the planks i posted before. on the right, some subtle blotchy desaturation.

i use nothing but GIMP and a mouse. just imagine if i actually had a tablet and photoshop...

ah well.

mostly i just start by making some noise, then i mess around from there until i find something i like, do some curves, add some nails, draw some lines, blur them, mess with layer modes, and come up with this.

conceptually the cleaner ones could make sense, as planks never occour naturally, as they are made from cutting down trees.

but... im going for asthetics.

im thinking i need to make yet another version... not so much blotchy and weathered, but perhaps a bit dirty.

im thinking of getting rid of the rivets, they dont really work too well...

shall i even use this as glass? or should i repurpose it to be a redstone lamp by adding some interesting glowing guts?

if that were the case, perhaps id make a round window with grid-like supports inside.

The only arguement I have against the rivets is that they draw attention to themselves at the extent of the surroundings. At the same time, they add a nice bit of detail.

Rivets or no, that's still some of my favorite glass right there.

perhaps ill recolor the rivets then. or maybe remove them and add a smaller piece of glass in each corner, that connects to create diamond shaped glass. more transparency...

thinking ill go with removing the large rivets, add more open space, to see through, and if i can manage it, add smaller copper rivets somewhere.

but first, im going to make a whole new design for glass, and see if it suits it better so i can decide if i want this to be the redstone lamp or to stay glass.

which is better? the top 2 rows, or the bottom 2 rows?

the top is the original glass texture, just made with more transparent spots.

the bottom is a new round one i did.

dont mind the color, that's easy to change. but as for shape and design... whats better?\
