ever work your ass off on the most frustrating texture you've ever attempted, then get that awesome feeling when it all comes together in the end? yep, glowstone was like that for me.
ive done both netherbrick and glowstone. have a look...
glowstone is animated, here's a preview of it... im horrible at making GIF's, so its not great, but it looks good ingame. also, there's a longer interval between the flickering and steady light ingame, indicating more like a power surge than a flicker.
im not 100% sure ill keep this as glowstone, i may re-purpose it as a redstone lantern, but... i have other ideas for that too, and no ideas for glowstone aside from this, so perhaps not.
I would like to test and also i can not wait until this comes out
Im gonna use it like 24/7!
Also i noticed glowstone hasent been done by your pictures so far so i was thinking just smooth it up a bit and maybe add a crack in it somewhere
Or something along those lines
next test pack with improvements to the terrain zone + next zone comes out pretty soon. the nether is the next zone, and it doesn't have very many blocks in it, so it wont be long.
The netherbrick is somewhat nicely disgusting, I love it
I don't like the glowstone. When I see it, I could never guess it is. It's a very good texture, but not for glowstone IMO. It should be the redstone lamp.
Edit: The glowstone could be a mix of organic and artificial material. Or it could looks like it though. I mean, this glowstone you made are too metallic IMO. The light source should be bigger, more visible.

Contrary to what you say about your gif making skills,13thMurder, both your torch and glowstone gifs are excellent...love them both!

you are forgetting though, my texture pack is apocalyptic, and many natural things are replaced with unnatural relics of the past... abandoned things and such. ores are all old buried items that are harvested for scrap and recycled, rather than raw materials. i could perhaps do something different for glowstone and make these into redstone lamps, but i dont want to make them into rocks... honestly, i cant stand texture packs that have them as glowing rocks, even though that's what they technically are... glowing rocks are always so bland... most appearing to be nothing more than glowing cobblestone.
however, i could possibly do something resembling a wad of natural filaments or something of that sort. im not sure what i think of the idea, but ive got an interesting mental image right now, that ill look into.
maybe you could make the glowstone like one of the lamps that has been grown over by rock I know this makes very little sense but like a staliktite has grown over it
minecraft doesn't allow for that much depth, unfortunately.

means a lot, especially coming from you. you actually helped me to think of these. the problem with my GIF's is mostly that i can't seem to get the framerate quite right... the same frames im using for the GIF make the animation seen ingame, however the torches play much faster ingame, and the glowstone has a longer pause between the flashes, making it appear more like a slight power surge than a flicker.
its strange... as if the animations know exactly how i intend them to be ingame, and make themselves exactly that, but when i try to make a GIF they refuse to look quite right. thats what i mean.
when you mentioned tesla and edison... i realized something, im making an APOCALYPTIC-steampunk pack. engineering and invention are massive components id sort of overlooked. id included them already in some small ways, since the apocalyptic aspect implies the need for heavy self-reliance and creativity with the materials you have access to, but id not really intentionally been seeking out such aspects, as id been mostly busy trying to fit in small scrolling details, and make things look a bit dingy. another big aspect of this pack is just having references to things, because i think references are fun. things you can look at and suddenly be reminded of other things. not sure why, but i just like them.
hence the tardis door lapis, my plans for pigs dropping green ham (dr. suess reference) and other such things.
in this case torches were tesla inspired, and glowstone was inspired by edison. not so much actual devices they created, but ones resembling the style of their inventions.
the next test release download will be available on this thread, rather than having it sent by private message like last time, and it should be finished within a few days!
I would so use this pack! and i probably will because it is very unique and original, that is the best part
the next test release should be out very soon. maybe even tonight. ive got 4 textures left to do, 2 of which are very simple, one im half done with already.

ok, ill send you a link next time i release it.
Netherrack is a block that can be ignited.
It's surrounded by lava.
You did the netherbrick already... and it's made from netherrack.
Some rusty rotten thing with soot and/or ashes, embers...
I don't know. Maybe you already though about all this I have no precise idea.

According to the wiki, netherbricks can't be crafted...
I never tryed, but that was logical for me, but I was wrong.
in the nether there's tons of netherrack and soul sand, and not much else. what is more likely the thing nether brick would be made of?
everything.
terrain, particles, all mobs, GUI... everything.
bookmarked.
i cant wait to see what you come up with!
the torch is great! and redstone is too!

some rather visceral soul sand.
