Hmm, some objects do have a damage count to allow different textures to be used, for example wool. Maybe someone could mod a way to change the damage counter through the craft window? I don't know.
Is that how wool can have different colors?
Does wool have a texture?
I still prefer the green to the others, but that tiny brown grungy window is "cute" in comparison. The new wood is better in my opinion and I'm liking the look of the sand, however it seems to be a bit too soft looking. Think you can do anything about that?
I did make other, more interesting, sand textures. But they didn't tile too well. Since doing the sand I've discovered the seamless tile tool in Paint Shop Pro. Hence, the wood texture. I think I can improve on the sand, now. Or at least make some reasonable alternates.

Wool does have a texture and also a texture for all the other colours of it, however when the item is needed it's called by a single ID number, I believe wool is 35? Either way, it then has a number superscripted next to it, this smaller higher number decides which texture is being loaded onto it. This should be possible to be done through mods if somebody explores the wool block file and checks to see how each texture is loaded.
To explain this better
35^0 = White wool
35^15 = Black wool.
20^0 could be equal to the porthole
20^1 and this, the green window
I don't know much about Javascript so I probably couldn't do this myself any time soon, and you'd probably need a way to craft these different windows. I'm sure I can think of something.

Yeah, its the multiple colored texture under the doors.
You cant make them look like windows, by the way because wool doesnt support transparency.
and yes, you know how tools have a damage value?
the same kind of 'damage value' is on the many colored kind of wool. thought thats more of a modding-thing.
basically, someone could make a mod that allows you to use all of these windows.

I'm a software developer but I haven't used javascript. Maybe we could have arrow buttons appear under the crafting output item if it has alternates. Click an arrow until you get the one you want. But I think ideally you'd see all all the alternates at once and just drag the one you want.

I wondered what those colored blocks were! :unsure.gif:
Correction "Java" Javascript is for integrating into HTML. Hmm, I was thinking it'd be easier to have each window by itself being the crafting input to get the output of the next window in line.
For example
put 20^0 in and get 20^1 out.
probably easier than adding in arrows. Also to make it compatible with other mods you'll probably need to use ModLoader to load the alternate textures externally rather than using the currently existing tilesheet.

Yeah. If we start having alternates the existing tilesheet will fill up quick.
Might look less cute if you darkened the lines and put some tiny bits of a chipped brown paint or something, it just looks soft around the edges at the moment. It's still good and does look beaten, but it's like that over-sensitive guy in school that always got bullied. If you know what I mean.
Those are some great looking windows, the battered blue one looks like the shed out the back IRL!
Sand looks good too, I'd suggest putting a few random sea shells on it's top surface, but don't know if it would tile so well across a wide sand beach.
Trapdoors would look good with one of the chest panels as texture...
Don't know if it's any help, but Syrups Fancy Pack uses colored glass blocks as one of it's features.
So it may already have Damage coded Glass, or adds new blocks to allow the variations in colour.
Not sure how it does it myself...
How much damage does glass take in MC normally? It's pretty fragile stuff, so I'm assuming it may not have much in the way of Damage Count to work with for tweaking alt window textures.
I have to say that your door with the broken window made me laugh out loud. I could imagine a drunken pirate coming home one evening and punching out the window on his door.
I hope you continue this because I will certainly download the pack! I'll keep this on watch as well. :biggrin.gif: Bravo!

Yeah. I know what you mean. I'll do some more work on it.

Yeah. I have tried to make more interesting sand without much success. But I've since discovered the seamless tile tool in Paintshop Pro. I'll have another go at 'em.

It would be great if Notch built alternate textures for windows and stuff into MC. It'd make for more interesting building, I reckon. Meanwhile, we might have to work up a mod for it.
Oz, if you do make this a texture pack. Keep the name "Battered old sea chest" I love the new trapdoor, and I'm going to take a look into MCP, ModLoader and Java to see if I can make alternate glass blocks and any others you may require later on. : )

Awesome. I couldn't live in a world full of green windows.

I have no idea, either.

Well, it didn't start out that way. But I reckon it will gradually grow into a full pack.
Very close. I'm leaning towards "Battered Old Stuff".
