so much news since i last read the forum, firstly, spout is temporarily disabled, but hopefully we will have our beautiful spoutcraft back soon.
and john thats a nice guide you have there.
It is, but you can still use Spoutcraft to connect. I suggest it for new people just because it's the easiest way for most people to get on - some people don't want to risk messing up their Minecraft trying to downgrade, and in any case don't want to lose access to 1.0, so it's nice that Spoutcraft has its own separate install.
he wants people to actually read the rules and server information before connecting. We don't want a rush of 20+ people breaking rules and saying the post didn't have any included.
That's a good point, though I think in our current state it's nothing to overly worry about. We aren't likely to get such a huge rush of people pre-upgrade. And given the rate of new people coming in, currently new players are snatched up by towns pretty quickly - so they tend to learn the ropes if they stick around.
New players can't do much damage aside from wilderness griefing, but that seems to be a problem with some unknown established players anyway - and moreso with them since you can't break stuff too fast with wooden tools.

That wasn't my point at all. I'm just saying that there will be a flux of players (When the server updates) who don't know any rules and may do something they don't know is not allowed. When the server updates there will be on average 50+ people on and I'm just saying that 50% or more won't read anything except the IP.

Oh, I'd have no objection to moving it down after that - it always seemed like we had a decent number of new people joining at any point before the 1.0 update.
Buckets. Urg. I would heartily recommend, and perhaps desperately beg, that anything Scavenger drops be stackable to 64. My inventory fills up so, so quickly during power-digging; dealing with the Scavenger drops slows me down so much that it's barely feasible when I'm working on land.. but I do hate causing lag with thousands of uncollected drops.
the thing with buckets, you can't stack them due to being able to fill them, if you tried to fill them while they were stacked, there would be a problem =s and the other items aren't really a problem unless you have digged a crapload of blocks.
the thing with buckets, you can't stack them due to being able to fill them, if you tried to fill them while they were stacked, there would be a problem =s
That's most likely a trivial fix. If you've ever used the Single Player Commands mod for creative-mode singleplayer designing, it has a command to change maxstack size. You can change maxstack for buckets to 64, though filling one results in just one filled bucket and losing the rest. Though I'm pretty sure I've used a mod with bigger stack sizes (one of Risagumu's I think), where it simply won't let you fill a bucket unless it's in a single-bucket stack.
the other items aren't really a problem unless you have digged a crapload of blocks.
They're a problem with high Scavenger level. Trust me on that. And people do dig "a crapload of blocks".
I'm just saying - I really hate to cause lag when I have a lot of digging to do. But it's going to take me twice as long to do the job if I deal with all the drops (which are relatively worthless to me), so.. mostly I don't.
Actually.. now that people with Deconstruct can turn a bucket into one iron piece, maybe it would make sense just to change the Scavenger drop table and replace buckets with iron ingots. Could be some reduction of frequency, to balance out the convenience of not having to deconstruct all the time.
And maybe likewise replacing leather boots/saddles with a piece of leather.
That would be even easier than making certain items stackable, with the same result :smile.gif:
Construction is underway on the Ipswich Athenaeum, soon to be Minescape's premier literary destination. Given the relative dearth of literary material, however, which would otherwise leave sadly empty shelves, the library director is sponsoring a call for manuscripts.
Generous payment in Terras(our in-game dollars) is being offered for accepted works of reasonable quality. See categories below for the specific pay-rates.
Literary Guidelines:
In addition to category-specific guidelines, please observe the following - submitted works falling short of these standards will not be accepted:
Writing Quality: Works should be written in clear, grammatically correct and idiomatically appropriate English. Excessive verbosity, redundant prolixity, and associated pompousness one might consider "flowery language" will not necessarily improve chances of acceptance - though some stylistic flourish is acceptable in relevant categories.
Brevity: An instance of the above standard worth special mention. Note that our in-game books have only six lines per "page", holding something like 40-50 words on average. That's about 1/6th or less of the per-page text in a paperback book or double-spaced page on computer paper. Since these submission are meant primarily to be enjoyed in-game, authors should keep this limitation in mind. Write as succinctly as possible.
Originality: Submissions must be your own original work. No plagiarism under penalty of repeated death. You are free to use relevant information from the game Wiki and so on, but you must be improving it somehow - e.g. editing and compacting technical information to make it easier to read, adding missing information or elaborating.
Terms:
In short, by submitting a work you are granting me the right to "publish" this work in-game as long as I pay you the advertised rate for that category in in-game currency. If I accept your work, I will not need to check with you for pre-approval unless I have re-classified your book into a lower-paying category, or if I have opted to significantly shorten it by cuts/editing. Given the technical details of our Bookworm plugin, I don't believe there is any way for me to control in-game distribution and reproduction of the work. You are, therefore, waiving any sort of pesky 'copyright' claim to the work, aside from the right to be attributed as the original author.
Note that once a book is submitted, and especially once added in-game, I will likely not be able to honor requests for changes. Further, I may at my discretion edit submitted works - if there are any substantial changes, this will be added as an editorial note.
Categories:
Informational
This includes any technical references about in-game commands, information on classes, skills, mobs, guides for new players, and 'tips and tricks' material. Quality standards for this category will be very high. I don't need to pay for a dozen New Player Guides that all give the same information.
Pay Rate: 1 Terra per word, estimated average of 40-50T per in-game page / 200-250T per 'normal' page.
Accurate Historical
This category is for works that give accurate, actual histories of relevant in-game institutions or events. A prime example would be a history of the town of Bastion from inception to fall, or an impartial history of some of our wars. This is not the category for auto/biographical books, except, perhaps, for especially interesting figures.
I may pay additional bonuses for this sort of work - particularly if you write e.g. an authorized town history that you have already approved with the mayor of that town. Unauthorized histories will, however, still be accepted if they meet quality and accuracy guidelines.
Pay Rate: 2 Terra per word or more at my discretion, estimated average of 80-100T per in-game page / 400-500T per 'normal' page.
Lore/Religious
This category includes only those works that are based on, or at least take account of, current server lore as published by Cav on the wiki. You should not, for example, simply make up your own set of deities given that the server's deities have already been established and somewhat described. But you may elaborate on the given lore as you like, come up with fitting stories about the various deities, and can even deviate from the 'official' story so long as you give some account of why the deception/inaccuracy occurred.
Religious manuals / books of worship, detailing prayers or rituals for honoring whatever deities, are encouraged.
Please do not go so far beyond the given lore as to write e.g. The Word of Juniper, alleging to contain words directly inspired by a deity. Indicating some degree of indirect communication may be permitted, e.g. reporting a legend that Neith the goddess of Wisdom commanded so-and-so to build a temple or whatnot. But no "I was hangin' out in Bale and Neith came down from the heavens and was all like "Yo, what up?"
Pay Rate: 1.5 Terra per word or more at my discretion, estimated average of 60-75T per in-game page / 300-375T per 'normal' page.
Other
I'm happy to accept any worthwhile submission that doesn't fall into one of the above categories. Whether it be a roleplay autobiography, The Song of the Pyromancer, faux-diaries of dead adventurers.. if it's good enough that the average player would enjoy reading it, I'll take it.
And please, don't try to submit a book as a different category for a higher pay rate if it doesn't fit the guidelines. I'll either reject it, or agree to publish only under this category. In any case, exceptionally interesting works will likely be awarded a bonus beyond the base rate.
Pay Rate: 1 Terra per word, estimated average of 40-50T per in-game page / 200-250T per 'normal' page.

I will not be accepting all submissions. Depending on quality, I may reject most submissions. But I do hope to add a nice quantity of books into the game and am rather well-funded, so I will take anything original and of good quality.
Include the following:
1) Your in-game name 2) Category of submission 3) Suggested Title of submission* 4) Name of author to be included in the in-game book**
*Note: I may alter titles as I see fit.
**Note: You may use your in-game name, leave the work as anonymous, or choose a pseudonym. No real names, please. I may coin a pseudonymous authorial nickname for anonymous works if I get too many, but I will not reveal authors without permission.

War of the 2nd Era Terms of Surrender for the Nation of Gwynedd
I, Zessus, acting as Twin Emperor of the Brukweyrian Empire offer Gwynedd a chance to lay down their weapons and surrender to the Empire under certain terms.
1. Gwynedd will abide by the Empire's laws.
2. Gwynedd will convert and use the Empire's market prices.
3. Gwynedd will cease the building of their "Great Wall" and immediately tear it down.
4. Gwynedd will pay a tax of 500 Terras every 2 days to the Empire for protection.
5. Gwynedd will convert to the Empire's religion.
6. Caernarvon will allow the Empire to build a fort beside their town.
7. The nation of Gwynedd will disband.
If you agree to these terms they will take IMMEDIATE action. Failure to carry out one of the terms will be punished. If you do not agree to these terms of surrender we will take strict military action on your towns and hunt your residents down. When this has been replied to by Dionnsai, leader of Gwynedd and the town of Caernarvon, send a message to Zessus on the minescapeRPG forums.

lol, Zessus. This is ridiculous. You can't attack what isn't there. There are -no- incentives for us to accept -any- terms. Quit powertripping :tongue.gif:

Cav, I heard you took lavaeffects away from pyromancers because it was too powerful of a heal. The same goes for every other class with an 'effects' skill. Some of those classes are complained about far more often for that very reason. I, however, ask that you restore pyromancers to their former glory. If you take away the effects from one class, then you should so the same to all of them to be fair. And let's face it, that'd be boring :smile.gif:

Not Dion, but y'know this BS isn't happenin'. It won't pass, and in your frustration, you'll go out of your way to PvP the least active town and nation in the server. You're so cool, bro.
actually caern was the most active town on the server before dion decided to make a nation and split its active members into new towns. And of course the town of those towns that flipped sides.
and john thats a nice guide you have there.
Cheers for that, much appreciated ^.^
