I keep finding world holes on my single player world.
I blame Notch and Jeb.
World holes are often caused by your computer. Update Java if you're not fully updated on it, and it might be fixed. I've only ever experienced 2 world holes on my new PC while my previous held quite a few in places they first appeared.

whats frustrating for me, is that I have more world holes than a alpha server.
Oh and my java is up to date and for the windows 7 64-bit.
That's pretty much down to the computer, not the game. Those are just chunks that haven't loaded yet/properly. In every case it's happened to me, walking toward it will make it pop into existence. It also doesn't really happen unless I'm logging onto a server for the first time.
You blame Notch and Jens. I blame your sorry excuse for a personal computer.

If, by some freak chance the usual nonsense I generate seems to help you, there's a nice shiny green + button to tell me that I'm doing the right thing
I get these all the time in SMP, but not SSP. You don't need a mod to fix it. I'm pretty sure that toggling the fog will fix the parts where you can see through into all nearby caves, like on the left. (Press f3, then F 4 times, and f3 again.) You could try reloading the textures (F3 + T), but idk if that will work. If you find actual missing chunks that have textures on the sides of the 16x16 area, that's another story. Reload the world to fix it.
(@ earlier posters: You do know it's possible to fix graphical or fps problems without saying "BUY A NEW PC", right? Quite a few of the new computers I see are actually worse than some of the older ones.)
It's not a problem with some person's computer. It is not the client user's responsibility to prevent glitches, it is the programmers. If the user experiences glitches, or world holes, then it is the programmer's responsibility to work through what is causing it and develop a more stable platform.
World holes don't just fix themselves all the time. Often when there is an interruption in the loading process that causes these "chunk errors" to occur. If the error is severe enough the game wont detect that the chunk isn't loaded. Imagine that each chunk is stored somewhere and the game's job is to load that chunk or introduce it into memory. A chunk error happens when a pocket of chunk data did not properly send itself, and the game didn't attempt to refresh it
BTW the chunk error is back in SMP... There wasn't chunk errors in 1.8.

It most certainly is a problem with the person's computer. Yes, granted, Minecraft could be better about detecting and correcting glitches that occur because the computer running it is a POS, but it's fact that the computer is a POS that causes this stuff to happen frequently in the first place.
SMP is a different story. That's mostly caused by internet connection suck.
You blame Notch and Jens. I blame your sorry excuse for a personal computer.
Funny that my "Sorry excuse" for a personal computer also run BF3 flawless. However runs this game like stuff coming out the south bound end of a north bound mule.
That looks like chunk load errors. Do they go away if you reload the game on your computer? I get them all the time when I'm exploring new areas and run a little too fast for the game to load into my memory. They go away after a wile or when I quit and re-log in.
usaully I just ignore them, but when they become too frequent i reload the map and that usually fixes it.
and to people who say I have a shitty computer.
I play half life 2 on high and at 720p
Even if your computer is awesome, sometimes a graphics card can just totally hate certain games. There are so many combinations of systems and video cards that it is impossible for manufacturers, Sun Microsystems, and Mojang to account for all of them. Unfortunately, there are going to be some folks who just can't seem to get the game to run well, no matter what they do. My comp is 4 years old and runs the game perfectly so disregard the folks complaining about the quality of your computer. It's possible that it is just dumb luck with your computer configuration.

Remember kids, when the mod crashes delete system32!
