Brief history: I've been playing the same world (1.9.5 Singleplayer, Hard difficulty) for months before finding an End Portal. Even though I had read that all of the End content had not yet been added (and that the only way to exit was to die), I decided to go through the portal to check it out.
I finally had updated to 1.0.0 (I skipped Prerelease 6) when... after loading up with my best enchanted sword, diamond armor, potions and a ton of arrows... I once again went through the portal to take a try at killing the Enderdragon.
There was no health bar at the top of the screen... no crystals at the top of the obsidian spires and no Enderdragon.
Not knowing if I had encountered a glitch, I dropped all my items before killing myself to get back out... downloaded and reverted to Version 1.9.6 then tried again, only to find the same problem.
Can anyone shed some light on to why this is the case? Did I somehow "screw things up" by visiting the End while playing 1.9.5? Do I need to find another stronghold and another End Portal?
You must start a new world to get the new end. Or delete end directroy if such thing exists (and let it generate again).
Could you point me to where this info was officially released? It makes no sense that every other new addition to the game (gained through the preleases) worked in a pre-existing world but not this one.

I'l search for where the end data is and update shortly.
EDIT 1: I think its
C:\Users\YourPC\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves\YourWorld I think its DIM or DIM1
I need further testing.
EDIT 2: Delete DIM1 (Its the end data)

It's always safest to create a new world. Besides, what's wrong with a new fun adventure?

The issue is that unless I missed where it was officially stated that the only way to get the new End content was to start a new world, having put months of work in to one world with the expectation of being able to enjoy the full content of the completed game using that same world leaves a bad taste in my mouth... and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.
What I would also like to know is if my problem is a glitch, or have all of the people posting here talking about their Enderdragon encounters did so by first creating a new world upon downloading 1.9.6 or 1.0.0.

After deleting DIMI, do I then try going through the end portal to generate new end data?
Thanks for the help.Ok... there are two folders marked DIM1 and DIM-1. DIM1 has the latest date modified of the two.
I'll wait to hear back from you before I delete anything.
Unfortunately it is almost ALWAYS the case that a new world would need be generated to access new content after each update, including pre releases. Because you skipped the pre releases that actually added the enderstuff, but you still went through the end portal, you either have to reset your end (in the level folder) or start over.
Here is the shitty part; at the beginning of the year, you're going to have to start over again to access the NPC villager content unless they code a hard reset into the generated villages.

I could understand if, like you said, that was always the case with every new content being included in the prereleases, but for instance, I was still playing the same world when I patched in the prerelease that introduced Strongholds and the End portal, and those ended up in my current game.

That is depressing news. Unless I can manage to reset the end data, I'm not going to waste any more time starting over again until all future, major additions are included.

Hmm One is the nether the other is the end
I'l check to see which is which
Dim1 is the end and Dim-1 is the Nether (I think)

These made it into your game because they were in unloaded chunks; aka unexplored areas.
Because you visited the End when you did, the "Regeneration Pillars" were unable to load. As well as the new spawn point in the End, and the new generation code. Because of this, even if the Dragon did appear, the Egg and the end portal would not appear because the world already loaded its code.
Technically, the End changed completely to fit with the Dragon and it's behavior. And because you already loaded it, it could not load anything new from its new generation code, and I'm pretty sure that the Dragon is included in the new code.
This is how I see it, though it's probably not the best explanation. Sorry.

Do I delete the contents of the DIM1 folder while keeping the folder itself intact? What would be the next step... go ahead and re-enter the end portal, or would I need to re-install 1.9.6 first?

I think sufficient evidence that it requires a new world is the fact that you can't kill the dragon, and everyone else can.
Try creating a new world. You have literally nothing to lose.
I'll try the deleting of the DIM1 files first, and if that doesn't work, then you're right. I would have nothing to lose, although I still will hold off on creating a new world until at the very least the villager update is released in January.
so delete dim1, thanks I went to the end in 1.9.5 using a mod (2 strongholds no portal :sad.gif: ) so i will probably get a mod that can warp me to the end clear dim1 and reload the end.
