I think it was a fitting ending being that the place was called 'the end' it seems like the proper way to end minecraft because now there is a proper goal in minecraft, a goal in which you need to complete. get items, build wepons, survive and make your way to the strong hold to kill the dragon. once you kill the dragon dosn't mean the games has to end you can still play on and continue on your world that you are creating.
But, what is your opinion on the ending text, after the dragon? Because, as it's written in the OP, this thread is for discussing that.
I can see that. I don't think that's what the author was going for though. Do you agree with that?
*For some a creepy universe.
It was a dream endings always make me feel bad. The ones I've experienced were particularly bad. As in telling me to go live real life and whatnot. I'm not here to go have real life when I'm playing a game. I'm here to play a game and get absorbed into the game world/my goal/my own story, in the case of Minecraft.
Dream endings are overused, and I consider them a sort of cop-out. I like the idea of bosses in minecraft. I'm hoping that the mysterious square rooms in abandoned mineshafts will become home to some sort of spider mini-boss. But I don't want minecraft to have a set story. Especially if that story is only revealed very late in the game. If minecraft should have a story, it should only be in adventure mode. Creative is for the builders. Survival is for the survivors. Adventure is for the people who like to have a story to their games. Come to think of it, adventure could be like a "tutorial" for survival mode, since it would be basically the same, but have a story to get you through.
I don't hate the idea of it, or that Minecraft actually has one. Minecraft is pretty special in my eyes, because there are so many ways to approach playing it. I believe that freedom is fantastic! The fact a game like Minecraft has an ending is even pretty amusing, when you think about it. And, of course, it's not really "the end" because you can keep playing and doing the same stuff you could do before.
What I hate about the ending is the long, boring, pretentious narrative text you're given. It tries to frame the game in a vision that's completely unnecessary, and is an insult to my patience and time and intelligence. I would like to ignore it, but I doubt it's going to go away.
I honestly don't care, it's not a real ending since the game keeps going and so do the updates. I agree enchantments are super annoying but only because they nerfed everything so they could be added. But the convo at the "end" stuck with me, it laid a metaphorical egg inside my stomach :/

Could you elaborate on that? Do you mean the ending dialogue should have been longer than 8 minutes or something else? (I can see what you said supporting all sides of the current discussion, depending on the context).
I honestly dont think notch should have ended it this way, should have made more updates up until 2.0, then he should have ended all this madness, well, its ok with me, just cant really accept the fact that its done.
In my opinion minecraft was born unknown lived to be amazing, grew and grew. It hit 1.8.1 and was the best sandbox game of all time. Then 1.9 came out and I realized with a jump "Notch is out of GOOD ideas!"
The ending should be when you have to fight Herobrine in his own world the Nether. The only way to activate the fight is to find his resting grounds at the Last Layer of the Nether. And Herobrine should have two forms you have to face him in, Normal Size and Giant Demon Size, who shoots out fireballs like ghast.
Herobrines Powers / Facts/abilities:
-Teleportation,
-Every 1/4 of Damage he summons pigmen while he regenerates half of damage taken.
-After Losing Half his Healthbar he should turn Giant, and the only way to beat him after that is by arrows.
-Can fight multiple times but it gets harder every time.
-Can only fight him once a day (Normal Time)
You need 4 Mystical Runes to activate his waking ground. Which can be found one in each biome.
Oh and you can only fight him in Survival or Hardcore Mode Not on Creative.
AND THE BEST PART. IF YOU BEAT HIM IN HARDCORE WITHOUT CHEATING YOUR USERNAME GETS PUT ON MCF LEADERBOARDS.
These are all of my Ideas. I hope they actually get used.

Why can't people think of something better than herobrine... :huh.gif:

BEFORE: there shouldn't be one...

You don't "restart," you just respawn, from what I've been reading.
It gets a result.
P.S. the 'wake up.' Reminds me of G-man.
