Well, quite frankly, the only thing that is keeping me from doing it already is the fact that I don't actually play Minecraft as often anymore as I once did, and when I do it's on a modpack that isn't featured (altogether) for 1.9.4.

I didn't start keeping an extra jar copy until 1.8 pre, and when I figured it out I felt very tard as well. I wish I had been doing it for a long time.
so if i make a backup of the world as it is now then upgrade, if i dont like it i could swich back then use the backup would everything be as it is now?
I would backup your entire minecraft folder, not just your world. Then if you don't like it you can revert to how it was when you made the backup.
And just FYI, 1.9.5 was released the day after this thread was started.

Is trying out your mom worth it? Yes. Yes it is.
So 1.9.4 should be worth it too!
