Aside from everyone wanting the ability to own 200 spawners and infinite diamonds, spawners should be an obtainable item somehow. As for anyone that has not yet heard, the silk touch enchantment will not allow you to obtain monster spawners in the 1.9 release (citation needed, I know I've seen it). Take your vote, should they be obtainable or not?
It doesn't create an imbalance in survival when people can already create very efficient mob farms without them.
Creative needs them for more amazing creative maps.
So if you were playing an FPS where bullets were really limited for a certain gun, do you think that being able to fill your inventory at any time with said bullets would make the game anything more than game-genie-fied?
Creative mode, sure, but survival, nawwwwwwwwwww dogggggggg.
Given the rarity of silk touch, I would say yes to both. Creative no question, and as far as survival goes, once you've hit the level and gathered the necessary resources to obtain silk touch, your pretty well set against mobs, and clearly know how to handle yourself around them so I have little problem with players farming them for drops and exp at that point.

It's not like it will be "hey have this free spawner!".
No, you still got to FIND the dungeon and FIND the spawner, and also most mob traps don't even require a spawner if you are willing to put time in it.
Creative Mode should not have any restrictions so I definitely support being able to place and destroy any type of spawner (even those that don't exist in vanilla survival like endermen spawners). Survival mode on the other hand would become severely imbalanced once someone located two or three skeleton spawners and inevitably got lucky as to get the Silk Touch Enchantment. It would grant you having an indefinite supply of arrows and bones barring a creeper explosion destroying the spawners. Having such a high output of any useful material, that would typically be acquired through fierce battle with mobs, at such convenience is obviously imbalanced.

I don't understand that how it would make the game "too easy". They turn into pig spawners in survival. Food is hardly difficult to acquire as it is.
And honestly, too easy? Really? It's not like the game is hard. If you're dying beyond the very first night after starting a new game then you're doing something terribly wrong.
You need a high level (random) enchant to do it. It's just another carrot for people to chase. Removing carrots from a sandbox game is never a good idea.
I'd say it's unanimous that we agree it should be in Creative. :tongue.gif:
It's a shame though, when you use the silk touch to obtain the spawner, it only spawns pigs when you place it back down. Hopefully that'll be fixed. Otherwise I am for the ability to pick up spawners with the enchantments, considering it's a difficult task to do.

Seriously? That's the argument you're going with?
I'm barely off the bus from Noobtown as far as Minecraft is concerned and I have zero problem building a mobspawning/grinder without mob spawners. When I do find one on the Survival Server I play on, I often barter the info on it's whereabouts to some one else, 'cause they are too far away from my "base" to be worth the effort.
I'd love to have the Silk Touch enchant let us pick up a mob spawner and keep it as a the mob spawner of it's type.
And finally, if you think it makes the game "too easy", don't use it. Just deal with spawners the way you do now.
Creative definitely. As creative mode is intended for the purpose of making extravagant buildings and adventure maps, spawners should be available to place.
Survival mode though...maybe if there were multiple levels of Silk Touch, and only the highest level could move spawners...and said final level was rare even when using a lv50 enchantment. THEN it'd be okay because you'd have to do a lot of work and be darn lucky to be able to do it.

You're saying that like silk touch isn't rare enough as it is...

This is my opinion. :unsure.gif:

maybe negative enchantments while you hold it - or maybe monsters just randomly spawn as you try to make your way to where ever youre going
true! :ohmy.gif:
But ya, creative needs it for adventure maps. Survival won't miss anything.
Imagine, a Minecraft where you don't ->need<- mods to make an adventure map, i.e. every block is available. Seems almost obvious, doesn't it?

Jeb confirmed that silk touch will not be able to obtain monster spawners in 1.9
