its just like in SMP all mob spawners are pig spawners
but they still spawn monsters such as skeletons, spiders, and zombies

I'm sure they'll fix that, but it would have admittedly been cool if the spawners retained the ability to spawn the mob they originally did. Imagine the mob grinders you could make if you could fill them with spawners you found and collected! :smile.gif:
No, its a enchantment that makes pickaxes and stuff pick things up in there original form, for example instead of getting diamond crystals you'll get the actual block that you can smelt into diamond crystals.
Or instead of getting redstone dust, you'll get the block.
Or instead of dirt, when you mine grass you'll get a grass block.
So its the original state.
Useful if you need normal stone, you can mine it and not get cobblestone.
Also, pigs only give bacon and when you get melons, meat becomes pointless.
Well, in any case, I'm pretty sure that the placed mobspawner is just a placeholder in testing the feature. Then when the official 1.9 is out, we'll see the right mobs to spawn.

It would be considerably less pointless in the face of a more traditional mob spawner set up. Plop one of those down on a patch of lit grass hooked up to a drowner, and you can get enough pork to live off of. And unlike melons, there's no replanting or block breaking involved in such a device. The only issue is cooking.
Additionally, this is the first I'm hearing of Silk Touch, but it sounds like a really great idea. It would be nice if this were left in, and spawners kept their ID when picked up, though.

Nope, this is just how spawners have worked since they were added to the game. No one was able to collect them legit before and so this was never an issue.

oh yeaaa, what a stupid idea u got there sir.. survival mode becomes pointless then,if u want do that kinda **** then go make it in creative and turn world to survival, effect is quite similar..
Silk touch is a very high level enchantment for pickaxes
using silk touch you are able to mine RAW ore
EX: mining coal with a NORMAL pickaxe gives you... COAL
EX: mining coal with a SILK TOUCH pickaxe gives you... COAL BLOCK as in a placable COAL BLOCK
which you can mine again or use as decoration.
Awesome, now I have a use for all that Redstone. I can finally build with it instead of filling piles of double chests with powder I don't want.
It would be nice if the graphic didn't change to a pig (I assume its just the miniature, not the spawn effect changing). It has always seemed odd to have spawners exist but make them immutable - the only thing close to that was bedrock (and the new End portal) which actually had a reason to be that way. In that past Iv'e ignored them, because I didn't want to wander all over the place just to get to spawners, but if I can place them where I'd prefer once found, they're far more useful now.

What are you, the fun police?
I don't like making redstone computers but I don't condem the people that do. He likes making mob grinders in survival mode, nothing wrong with that. So cool off there kid.
On the topic at hand, isnt there already a way to translate the galic words already? Can't you just take the pick out and put it back in till you see the silk touch word show up somewhere?
May the force be without you.

Bacon pointless?!
Not if you want to make a bacon waterfall!

Any spawner that is acquired by the player and is in the player's inventory will become a pig spawner upon placement.
I was wondering to.
Ah, ok. Well, if ti's a high level enchantment, I don't think it unbalances the game.

And you need level 30+ for a CHANCE at getting Silk Touch. Also, it takes a very long time with animals.
This. I spent a good 2k exp enchanting picks till I got silk touch on one. That was using editors to give picks and 1 milion exp.
My legit game is at level 170. (edited to make it look more like a comparison)
I didn't like the idea of enchantments... but this one might change my mind.
Does this mean we can mine spawners now? Without using admin/mod powers that let you gift yourself items? That would be very cool.

Time to stock up, folks!
