Creepers are made to surprise you, and when they succede while you're not fighting, you don't have enough time to block.
Thats your own poor reactiontime, I cant even remember the last time I died from a surprise creeper. I at least get a swat in with my sword to knock them away before they explode. I will admit they seem sneakier nowadays though, maybe thats just me. But you have a full second and a half to turn around and smack it in the face with your sword and move away, you guys probably spend that second panicking lol.
Creepers explode in 1.5 seconds thats not enough time to atleast slap it away and **** off they should still keep a surprise element but they should stop being almost impossible to react to

if you can't muster up an attack or right click to block with your sword within 1 second you might need to look into less intense gaming than minecraft... if that exists.
The 1.8 code for creepers and explosions show no significant changes in the way they work. In particular, it's still a level three explosion and the damage computation is the same. No idea where the damage inflation is...
My players that play on my server have noticed that even on normal difficulty there seems to be a bug with creepers... They've had creepers blow up right next to them and take no damage, but there are times when they are wearing full iron or sometimes full diamond armor and 1 creeper blows up next to them and kills them with full health.

Sir, while I agree, they can be very easy to brush off, have you ever had that instance where your mining something and a creeper falls on top of you? there's no time to react because a second of your time is now gone because the creeper started his timer while in mid air above your head.

Don't be so quick to judge.
That has never once happened to me. I don't spend a lot of time hanging out right under ledges, not out of any effort on my part but it doesn't happen, no reason for it to. EVERY time I've been killed by a creeper it wasn't because I couldn't do anything but I panicked so didn't do anything, you can ALWAYS ensure you don't die in minecraft if you're properly aware of your surroundings.

I never said hanging out under ledges, I said mining and if your in a mine shaft there are usually plenty of shafts running around and above you, there is always a chance of something jumping down on top of you from up there, I've noticed it happens from time to time usually right after you start mining something. and I'm not talking about being unsafe, you use common sense and light those tunnels, but the server always seems to spawn something regardless.

There's no reason for you to be that unaware, if it's right above your head maybe you should have come from a different angle, if it's not right above your head you had time to react regardless.

Really? wow, why don't you go to war my friend, you would win it all bye yourself because you would never be taken by surprise...

are you serious?
Minecraft is NOT that hard, it doesn't even require anything near perfection to avoid death, just basic common sense, don't expose your back to unknown, don't stand under overhangs that could contain enemies, don't dig straight down, it's really not that difficult.

Well lets review "and I'm not talking about being unsafe, you use common sense and light those tunnels" indicating I've searched these tunnels, indicating I'm aware something could come down from up there, Indicating I've checked my surroundings, and Now that I've done all that, I begin mining that deposit and blam! just as I start here comes a creeper.
You can never tell me that you haven't done all of this and not been surprised, there is always a chance you can be caught with your pants down, regardless of how much you are aware of your surroundings... It's going to happen to you someday and If you claim it never has, your lying.
V() is the function that checks if the creeper is charged, k refers to an instance of Level (World.java for you MCP types), and a is the "make explosion" function, pretty much. This is found in ub.class in the 1.9 pre2 jar.

It's even better when you're mining just below the lava level, you manage to dodge the creeper, but the crater you're now standing in is filled with lava... :wink.gif:
Personally, the only thing I'd consider changing about creepers is to not have them spawn as often underground. They're supposed to be like dry rustling leaves, which seems more normal for grassy/ground-level spawning. Where'd that material come from underground? (I have no problems with them sneaking/falling into tunnels however.)
I heard somewhere that tnt could do up to 40 hearts damage. Is that true, because creepers now have the same power as tnt...
=
Er.... the fact that TNT does up to 40 hearts (if true) should be an indication that creepers are NOT as powerful as TNT.
I'm about to experiment because someone said they're lethal on Easy. So... going to figure that out by hugging a creeper. Anyway, only time I've been blown up in recent history was when I was mining while standing on gravel; the floor collapsed and stuck me in a pit next to a creep, leaving me no ability to escape before he exploded. Not lethal as I was armored, but still...
EDIT: Interesting... creepers are indeed lethal at point-blank range without armor on Easy.
I have everyone on my server complaining about how there are far to many creepers doing far to much damage since the first 1.9 update, and I have to agree, they now are spoiling the game.
go post that in the minecraft is too hard thread, they'll appreciate it x]

This actually works?
If so I am happy and sad at the same time, but I may live longer!
If it aint worth fixing dont fix it.
