ok what the hell is with the "its realistic" people? minecraft is not realistic and never has been realistic at all. thats not a reason to make it non toggleable
The one amazing reason it shouldn't be tog-gable is because it annoys you <3 ... I hate people who ***** about the hunger system or anything that is added. If you don't like it go play something else :/

Ok ive been reading this long enough, time to make my move; Let me give all of you reasons WHY it should be added and solve problems: Sprinting; Keep hunder, just make it go down when your sprint, and make it go up automaticaly. DONE
So much food; Lower drop rate of EVERYTHING, including melons. DONE
Food Stack; make it so THEY CANT STACK. DONE
Personaly I HATE hunger,
I belive the best way is to just have food heal you half heart, by half heart, that'll add some stradegy to combat,
Makes farming useless; Let me emphasize something again MUCH, LOWER, DROP RATES!
(what happens to me the day 1.8 came out) "OH COOL 1.8 IS OUT," seconds later, "What the hells why am I not HEALING"
(sees hunger bar, goes over to XBOX and plays Total Miner Forge) "WHY DEAR MINECRAFT WHY!!!".

Im a huge: Steampunk, Redwall, LotR, And Minecraft fan.
The reason I think Hunger should not be toggleable is quite simply the slippery slope argument - where do we draw the line? There are many unpopular features of the game when first added (or removed, like booster carts and boat elevators) and there will probably continue to be as long as the game is updated.
That being said, I hate the way the hunger system is now. I don't want it to be removed, but it definitely needs to be changed and rebalanced. It's implimentation is terrible.

I agree. Food needs some real purpose to the game (other than healing), and I think hunger does the trick. However, the food bar drains ridiculously slow, like needing to eat only once a day or so.

You want it to drain FASTER,
This, is, becoming, a RPG...

but stackable food is only needed with the old heart system, with new hunger system theres no reason to need so much that it would be stackable
but it's in fact the other way around my friend it simply depends on how much you need to eat
with hunger you'll probably be eating more because of becoming hungry in 1.8 than you would getting hurt in 1.7.3 since you heal with full hunger in 1.8.
And Notch chose to sell a game for just shy of a year while that game provided a certain definition of that mode. Are you so surprised people would assume that would be a constant? After all, a beta is about bug testing; not redefining entire features.
Incase my intent wasn't clear in the first place: The definition you're talking about relates to a specific version of minecraft. Use that versions jar if you want to play that 'definition'/version of the game.
Which is a practice not sanctioned by Mojang. At the moment they just choose to look the other way. And as I said above, that'll disqualify me from all future bug fixes, features, and support.
Huh?? I mean use an old minecraft.jar. It doesn't disqualify you at all. You can still go use the new 'definitions'/versions. With all of their fixes, FEATURES, and so on.
Which is once of the key reasons why it would work best as an official setting or why the new mechanic should be part of a separate, new Adventure Mode. Servers could legitimately be configured for the behavior/mode and all clients would adapt automatically. Such settings could conceivably also be identified through future server browsers.
Putting this in a different context, think about this for a bit: Once minecraft is officially released and the modding api is there, mods can provide these options while being fully supported and entirely legitimate.
Possible, though relying on mods to do the job Mojang should do is something of a cop out.
I don't have much of a response to this since it's true as a statement but as a response is entirely opinion.
That said, extensive options for the SERVER side wouldn't be a waste of time perhaps.
I'd be interested to see if you complained about that over the past 10 months and in the forums of every one of the hundreds or thousands of games that have instant-heal items. Are you going to complain if/when they add potions to Minecraft that give instant heals? People seem to be expecting that to come eventually.
The part where I said "I disagree" means that is an opinion. Food, specifically food: something that is defined and designed to give you nutrition, making you heal instantly, is pretty unrealistic.
A magical potion designed to give you instant healing ability is another matter entirely. (And, yes, IS realistic because if it existed in reality with that definition [which it probably will in the future :> nanobots perhaps?] then it would be the same.)
I agree. Food needs some real purpose to the game (other than healing), and I think hunger does the trick. However, the food bar drains ridiculously slow, like needing to eat only once a day or so.
Umm... if you ate 3 or 4 steaks in one meal, I think you would be pretty full for the rest of the day.
When you eat food, flaming unicorns fly from the horizon, tugging Santa's sleigh, with Chuck Norris in the passenger seat. The unicorns will explode, producing fireworks which has explosions that are beautiful enough to make Hitler shed a single tear. Santa and Chuck Norris will then dismount from their sleigh, doing a swan dive in the process, into an ocean made out of orange soda. Chuck Norris will then roundhouse kick Santa in the face, causing a cataclysmic explosion of cotton candy, bunnies, and world peace.
That is an amazing reason why hunger should not be toggleable.
You're all like a bunch of uneducated feminists.
"I like all this, just not this one thing."
It doesn't work like that, darlings.
And it's not like hunger is hard to manage anyway. Spend 30 seconds killing a herd of cows and get 45 steaks and be fine forever.
If anything, Minecraft was turning into a gigantic ****ing bore until these changes happened. It's keeping the game interesting by adding a new feature to monitor while you clicky clicky clicky the wittul zombies till they're dead.

Tell me if I'm getting the right message here: "I don't want to play Survival. I want the game to give me what I want and I want it NOW! I want healing without cause! Change major game mechanics so that I can get what I want!"
Oh! Duh! I just realized the answer to OP's question is simple!
FOOD IS EASY AS HELL TO GET.
Exactly. I honestly don't see the problem.
Swamps have a million chickens.
Everywhere else has a bajillion sheeps, cows, and pigs. It's not like Mojang (NOT. JUST. NOTCH.) made it impossible to find food.
And even when there are no animals around, zombies and skeletons provide meat and bone meal for survival.
and I feel like I'm cheating when I go half a day from spawn/house, to find an animal on my first day then find out it's night time, so I have to use peaceful just to go back with the food.
I took that to mean you found food and went back with it.
Either way, you could have easily broken some wild grass for seeds, gotten a hoe, killed a skeleton at night, bonemeal'd the crop and gotten wheat.
Another topic whining that hunger bar should be toggable.
I say: DEAL WITH IT! Food is now incredibly easy to get and hunger does not drain on peaceful. Its beta game, if you cant stand it play 1.7.3.
easy to get now? animals dont breed now and Notch had a brillant idea of "hey lets make animals not respawn even though breeding isnt here yet!" so now that food is limited untill 1.10 because breeding got delayed again. and wheat takes forever to grow and i save my bones from skeletons in case wolves show up that i can tame.

Because bones are so difficult to aquire. :sad.gif:
This has probably been stated before but STACKABLE FOOD.

I doubt it. That could just be modded out anyway :wink.gif:. This is java we're talking about.

I doubt they will. It was just a suggestion for help is all. Entirely off topic.
Who?

FOOD IS EASY AS HELL TO GET.
Another reason:
FOOD ALSO STACKS NOW! NO MORE WASTED FURNACE TIME OR INVENTORY FILLED WITH FOOD!
Tell me if I'm getting the right message here: "I don't want to play Survival. I want the game to give me what I want and I want it NOW! I want healing without cause! Change major game mechanics so that I can get what I want!"
I don't like that message.
And what is so wrong with that?
That, is not, a sentence.
Exactly. I honestly don't see the problem.

I don't get why they see a problem either.
All you need is a few sticks and some string, or you can make a farm, or you can hunt.
It isn't tough at all.
Because bones are so difficult to aquire. :sad.gif:
