use mcedit to build because you're too lazy to do it yourself? Yeck.
However that's not really the point. The point is that thanks to enderman, it is currently impossible to have a working mob farm. enderman can spawn on and destroy any collection floors you have. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to prevent this currently. That is bad.
For the 4,658,245th time, built your wall x2 high, with a ceiling on top
ENDERMEN ARE 3 HIGH, thus they CANT SPAWN there.
What I meant was, if you ALREADY have x3 rooms, use mcedit to SHRINK each floor (use the merge function) to x2. Voila! Mob farm fixed. On that note, why on earth would you build x3 rooms anyway? That is a waste of space.
How about: I like the game the way it IS?
How about use a mod?
I should not have an extra tab in minecraft for someone else's convenience.
While we are adding teh buttons, lets add one for creepers. They blow stuff up.
How about lets add one for chickens, because they clog up peaceful farms.
let's also add a "Chuck Norris body change" option while we are at it.
:biggrin.gif:
actually i would love a mod to do that, but it doesn't exist yet, also, would that toggle really make your life all that much worst? really? well sir you are one whiny person. go get your meds and leave now please.

How about you use a mod when Endermen are rightfully fixed? It's awfully convenient to have this specific patch tailored to your conforming viewpoint. If Endermen were never given the ability to move blocks from the getgo, you wouldn't protest in the least. But because Notch decided to mix it in there, now it IS an issue for people to complain.
Also, really? An extra line in a config for endermen would absolutely drive you insane. Hopefully I can go through your past posts to find your outraged posts on the implementation of peaceful difficulty at the advent of alpha.
You do realize it is Survival mode right? if you are mad about your creations being destroyed make them in creative mode? like this is the adventure update...the game is actually fun to play now and has some challenge to it. I love the enderman
I do agree that endermen are exciting when you are a mobile moving type player, but for those of us who make ULTIMATE FORTRESSeses(?) then we don't like hours of work and experimenting being destroyed in minutes.

Would it make my life any better? Jeez man, don't get all mad; I am getting tired of the same solution being suggested, and y'all keep ignoring viable solutions. All these spam threads about Endermen are starting to get annoying.

1) Said fortress must be well lit, else creepers spawn inside it, yes?
I spent hours these past few weeks building a giant death factory for mobs - the hostile sort - and I finally managed to make a very efficient one. Now, I updated, and within two minutes of activating my death factory, everything went wrong. There was water where there shouldn't be. I suspected enderman. And I was correct. Upon inspection, tons of blocks had been removed; my channels were completely sabotaged and my whole construction rendered useless. It was a real pain to fix it up because it's all in the dark and made of channels you can't jump out of and etc.
Now it's fixed, but if I turn off the peaceful mode, they will once again destroy my creation.
I think enderman's ability to move around blocks should be cancelled. If they move blocks around in the wild, it makes no difference and you'd hardly notice; and when they remove blocks from your constructions, it's not particularly fun, and rebuilding is a major pain in the potato, especially if you have a device made to spawn mobs and kill them afterwards.
I read somewhere that endermen would only move natural blocks and not those placed by the player, but all the blocks I used in my trap were placed by me. Is this a bug that will be solved in the near future or will enderman always be able to displace player-placed blocks?
If enderman continues to have this ability, and if there's nothing you can do to stop him, then I must forget about my massive death factory, and much more, since I used this to get gunpowder to get TNT to flatten the land around my home and many other things.
If you too wish enderman couldn't remove your blocks, say so in this thread.
PS: If you disagree and like that enderman can remove your blocks, I'm sure you have valid reasons in other contexts, but if you have created a complex construction which needs to remain just as it is to function, you will understand how handicapping enderman can be: it's either peaceful mode forever, or forget about your inventions altogether (since my factory can't work on peaceful).
to put quite simply here is my counter argument, enderman was made this way to MAKE things harder for the player, thats kinda what mobs are for. In my opinion, Enderman being able to pick up and move blocks is good. you can't build a house and then suddenly it goes from "survival" to "lets start farming materials" enderman the way he is can REMOVE PROTECTION, if you REALLY dislike enderman that much, build a water moat around the thing... if you didn't notice... enderman DIES in water.. if you make a moat, he can't get near it to rip it apart

i get that the multiple threads are annoying, but i don't see what's your problem with our solution if it doesn't change the way you play it. it's called live and let live, we are aware that a lot of people like it as it is, and i don't agree with whomever would want the enderman completely removed. i just don't think it's that big a deal, for something as gamechanging as this mob, to have a little toggle.
and i'm not even speaking for mob-grinders, i don't use those. I just don't like it messing up the landscape around my buildings.

Never was around for Alpha. How old are the lot of yall anyway? I only do not want endermen or minecraft to change, and I get accused of being intolerant? Fascinating, pray tell me more!

i do far more messing up the landscape around my buildings than a hoarde of creepers and endermen put together usually.
I completely understand your point. What I'm saying is that currently the game is very good for your preferred style of play, but *my* preferred style of play is no longer really possible as things are.
I worked for a long time to understand mobtraps and their construction. I built several ones that didn't work well before I came upon a design I liked to look at AND worked well. I went through several worlds experimenting with building and forms and had a lot of fun doing it, even when something I tried didn't work.
Now, I feel like all that work was wasted because of an addition that allows the undoing of my work with no method to prevent it. I'm not interested in a white-knuckle session of survival, the idea of living in a rough hut and hunting mobs every night doesn't appeal to me, and no amount of Hoo-Rah cheerleading is going to make a survival-style game fun when what I want to play is a building and crafting game. I could just as easily say to you that survival style of play doesn't take anywhere near the creativity and forethought that mobtrap and castle planning does and therefore, isn't as valid and nothing to worry about.
for the past 3 attempts my post didnt even show up...so i will try to reply..again... "ahh i the fun of a lava lighthouse... though as someone stated before me. a 4 phase slider would be the best fix 1: they dont pick things up, 2: they only pick up dirt/gravel/sand/stone up 3: they pick anything up and 4:they pick up player centered things only. that would allow for each player to have there fav setting and keep things fun for all of us
i do far more messing up the landscape around my buildings than a hoarde of creepers and endermen put together usually.
then again, i'm not here to change YOUR experience with the game, but to make mine better by making the ability to move blocks around a choice, exactly so you can keep playing the way you do, and i can play the way i wish i could.

1+2=safe?
When I build a tree house in a forest, I must flood the forest or light every square inch of it.
When I build a pyramid in the desert, it must be slathered in water or torches.
When I build a modern city, I must flood the streets and every floor of every building, or slather them all in torches.
When I build something imitating real life buildings, I must alter it to avoid tedious repairs.
And when I look out on to the landscape, if it is not flooded or slathered in torches, it will be as if generated through a noise filter. The scenery ruined, all for the sake of a non-threatening creature.

of course...only a non-alpha player would be this stuck up about change... you dont even know who herobrine is do you? as much as i dont whant the change..a slider would be best for this mob..be best for everyone

Nah it would be pretty dang funny if I went away and came back and they disassembled my house for me. Maybe its design might improve. :unsure.gif:
Endermen started breaking my structures, so I mined out the land underneath the ones that mattered and now everything is in the sky. The places that remain at ground level have lava moats around them or were left for the Endermen to play with. It was interesting finding 3 of these guys ripping apart my testbed area for minecarts :smile.gif: Endermen have made me build more arrow-dispenser walls behind lava falls and more pitfalls into lava around my remaining ground structures.
Their indifference to which blocks they move is interesting because they have moved blocks meant to mark property/project boundaries as well as markers used for landmarks. They REALLY like to break trees :smile.gif:
I would like to see them be able to move any non-manufactured block. But if I cooked/smelted/forged it, they shouldn't touch it. I do agree that they should build cool things with the blocks they displace.
Endermen pick up a single block. They don't do anything with it. They don't let mobs in. They don't threaten you. They just harass you indirectly in such a way that they are a major pain in the ass. When this is magnified to the SMP scale, you have every person's stuff being messed with all the time. From little 6 year old Suzie who made a house and a garden and tries to improve it every time her dad lets her on the computer, to the people working on sprawling projects that span multiple chunks. Everyone suffers for no ****ing reason.
