I have a big gripe about the Endermen... First I thought they were pretty cool. They're darn creepy, and it's one more enemy to worry about being a danger to your structures, giving you a reason to make some defenses n' such. However, here's the problem- Creepers you can prepare for when they attack. You can see them coming, and when they're about to damage your stuff you know. Endermen on the other hand just damage your structures a little bit at a time, and you never know when or where they'll be doing it.
I've already had some "machinery" type structures (in other words, structures that rely on working bits) rendered non-functional due to a few block missing, and I had no idea why until I circled around for a while and found out where the missing bits were. This is not fun defense, this is just annoying and tedious work.
This is especially a big problem with mob farms, as this now renders mob farms completely useless and non-functional. I don't really consider building anything in minecraft to be cheating as long as you're using what the game provides you. Everything you build takes time and effort, and a mob farm is often a complex beast that takes a lot of effort to create. The reward is that you have a steady income of mob items from that point on. Unfortunately, now Endermen will spawn in mob farms and wreck them as they wander about (as I've already experienced), and as is the case with my mob farm, most mob farms won't really function anymore due to the constant maintenance required to fix all the damage caused by Endermen.
It's simply not a fun addition, it's an annoying one. Personally, I think something needs to be done to fix it. It's making me almost want to go back to the old client...
Endermen are cool. The way they secretly pull apart your structures little by little behind your back is not.
the problem lies with them being able to pick up user placed blocks. If they weren't allowed to do that, this problem wouldn't exist. It needs to be fixed definitely.
- Is your mob trap roof 3 blocks higher or more? If so, why? Endermen are 3 blocks tall, and die in water - so if you set it up that way, they shouldn't be able to spawn, and thus won't be able to dismantle it.
- They can move your machinery. Solution: Build some defences against Endermen so that they can't even *get* to your machinery. By the looks of it, some of it is easily accessible by them so they'll happen to wonder over there and do their thing. The way I see it, this is a good time for people to have a new look at ways to defend their bases. Could be a sky-base with a sprint-jump to get on (So no mobs can even get to your base), a moat, or an underground lit cave - anything like that could probably work. It adds a new way to "survive" in a survival game. I like it.
I was in a guard tower, and got the attention of 3 Endermen for kicks - 5 mins later I went downstairs to see what they were up to, and they were dismantling my wall in an attempt to get to me. I think that's pretty nifty. If they couldn't move those blocks, then they have absolutely no reason to be feared.
Endermens are awesome. Let them pick up any block. No reason to fear them, if you can build a wall they can't rip apart. You could always make a "pit" around your stuff, and fill it with water
You caught a mob in your mob farm, and it did some damage. Not much of a surprise.
Realistically, if you're lighting the area and setting up a perimeter, Endermen can't touch you.
It's only when you're setting up **** like mob farms that they'll spawn in your structures.
try making the mob farm further away from your structure or place water around that that should keep enderman away.
My point is that mob farms no longer function at all. Endermen spawn in them and destroy them, making them non-functional. I'll see if I can modify every portion of mine to be only two blocks high though, that should prevent them from spawning.
Hey guy's i have an idea
Let's not make Creepers explode, cus they break my blocks, or OR OR not let them destroy my placed blocks?! How fun does that sound!?
Or it COULD BE, Endermen were implemented like this, because that's how they wanted it, maybe to stop people using Monster Farming.
Ever thought of that?
Thanks for just being an ass and not actually reading into my point at all. Or really reading my post at all, apparently.
... So everyone's solution is just "surround everything you build with water and make it only two blocks high inside"? So basically Endermen hamper my creativity in Minecraft by forcing me to build my structures in a really crappy fashion. Hence their being annoying.
From OP "Creepers you can prepare for when they attack. You can see them coming, and when they're about to damage your stuff you know. Endermen on the other hand just damage your structures a little bit at a time, and you never know when or where they'll be doing it."
This is my main issue. If this wasn't a problem, I'd love the hell out of them. I agree that the ability to move non-player places blocks, and not move player placed block, would just make more sense.
I don't like that there's a chance of "I'm gonna greif your house bro".
"Play on creative/play on peaceful" I like to make things legitimately. You know those people who are all about the "legitimacy" of things? Well, I build most of my things legitimately.
And the face is, I do like a challenge, but not something I can't stop. That's not a challenge, that just greifing in small scale.
Do endermen spawn in light? If not, this should only be an issue for your mob farm as everything else should be well lit anyway. This is only as much an issue as creepers are. There will definitely be a way to prevent them from destroying your structures as long as you're willing to put the time in to protect them like you do everything else.
Well solution make a bridge but in the middle of the bridge put trap doors so they fall into a lava moat below and make the moat deep enough and open the trap doors and go in your castle

Not everyone is playing Survival /just/ and /only/ to survive. Some people are playing to be creative.

The government changed, deal with it. Also, you can't vote. Herp derp.
Although, the government gives you the allusion that you're able to vote, since it's a beta government and all, in the end it's really just communism.< >Also, lawl<

Name off these defences that can prevent a random Enderman attack. Creepers you just need to have a hole that's 3 blocks deep [ensuring that if they jump off another Creeper they can't get out], now this is only if I'm planning on using that building.
Rules for the naming must be> No need for water, and no need for light.
This noting that some buildings and structures do not requite this, or they do not need it/make it look worse.
[Or could also be a component room built specifically for redstone. Horizontal and vertical redstone contraptions do exist with a 3 high.] There are also times whence this may be an issue.
The point I'm making it, it shouldn't be an issue.
Yes, taking blocks you haven't placed down makes sense. Taking blocks you actually worked hard on, doesn't. /Even if it's one.
well heres another thing to add to anti-enderman attempts
have you guys tried using things like half blocks, signs and fences, the vid http://www.minecraftforum.net/videos/view-11463-lets-play-minecraft-08-enderman-spawner-final
confirms the halfblock solution, and the option of placing blocks higher than the enderman, plus it did a good job in solving most of my enderman issues
im gonna check and see if there are other ways to prevent enderman related ragemoments
God. Imagine being a little newb playing the game for the first time just having built a tiny 4x4 dirt house. You suddenly get woken up by an army of endermen. Ouch. O_O
