Alright, I was screwing around with exp and i thought what notch might do with it, and i started thinking of skill trees. You know, branching out in different ways to be unique. And then i thought, now what we're gonna have NPCs (and apparently we're going to be able to be the arbitor of their problems?) why can't we have the choice of being an ass or being a saint having a reward?
Maybe different levels of this karma system will do different things for a player?
example: completely evil would make animals scatter from you on sight, NPCs attack you without reason, Endermen will be passive or even friendly to you?
It adds a whole new plane to the playing field. Im not trying to make this a suggestion for notch to add (if i did, i'd add it in the suggestion section) but idk, i just wanted to see what the community would think if minecraft went down this road.
Even just two is nowhere near enough for a "decent" morality system.
agreed but, from what we know right now how much farther can we go with this idea?
maybe have a kind of Fallour karma thing? where if you fire bomb a village and then save another they dont call you god (although according to the bible that WOULD be like god)
I've never liked karma in video games, and mentioning Fallout, Fallout 3 is a big reason. How exactly do other people know I've been stealing? In New Vegas they switched the focus to reputation, which made much more sense, and they should have completely gotten rid of karma.
If there must be karma in a video game, the only thing I think it should ever effect is your character's luck, and not even that strongly. Sometimes good things happen to the bad guy and bad things happen to the good guy.
That or it's a game with clear gods affecting the outcome, and 'karma' is really just how much they like you. Minecraft has no such thing.
the thing is those, you may have never met the person but word of mouth, especially in a land like minecraft, is insanely important, wouldn't you think?
and who knows, the endermen work in mysterious ways.
its just an idea, karma in games is usually exploited a lot (except for games like infamous where its a huge part of the story).

Online forums are not a good place for me to be.
would it not make sense to maybe at least put an aura around me for something like that?

The Karma idea is cool and all, but the NPCs aren't that well developed enough to need this at the moment.
