Millionaire is a NPC village mod, and it's been in development for months. Getting better as time goes.
A few other mods change how generation was handled, and that works well.
Remember hand held torches are "Hard to code"? Yeah, theres a mod for that.
If these mod makers have lives, why does it take them half the time to do something that isnt even their jobs?
There really is NO excuse to why the development is a snails pace, other than to not working on it long enough.
Yes, making tons of money off of something, which will give you plenty of extra free-time, is a perfectly good and valid reason to not do work.
Personally, I'm a bit disappointed as well. Notch has an obligation to work to finish this game, and he's spending his time making other games for other people, and entering game-making contests.
I expect the full, finished "game release" to be pushed back to next April. Either that, or it won't actually add anything and will just be given a sloppy title.
He might have millions of dollars, but from what I've heard, with the way the Swedish government works, most of the money is subject to a very high tax.
why has he still not added the animation for fish swimming?? everything for it is in the game already.. ;\
they really need to outsource some of the coding work though, what are they doing with the millions of dollars from making this game? >.<
"what are they doing with the millions of dollars from making this game?"
self profit. I bet atleast 70% is funneled straight into notch's pocket, 20% is split between the rest of them, and 10% goes to any funding that minecraft needs.

I think "the problem" is that Notch is one man who had a good idea and made it happen. People bought into expecting so much more. Mojang has only recently been created and is adding new employees and going through many changes. We expect so much from minecraft but the reality is that Minecraft was just an experiment. Kind of an accident if you will.
So "the problem" is not really Notch's problem. It is just ours and created by our own expectations of the game. I always tell people if they don't like the game don't play it or go make your own game the way you want it. Or at least provide some constructive criticism based on intelligent research about the game and its developers. Or you can always make mods. Attacking the game developers for being lazy or slow only makes things worse. Haste makes waste?
1.Notch has stated that he chose to code Minecraft using Java as a sort of proof of concept because he knew it would be a challenge.
2.Where does everybody get the idea that adding features to a game is simple and takes little time? Modding a game and changing the actual source code require different methods, they are not the same.
3.PLEASE just let these types of threads die! Nobody wants to hear you complain about someone over an internet forum, these topics just cause threads to turn into giant gutters for people to fill with trash.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.

You should probably do some research about the Swedish tax code before implying that. Not calling you out, just saying :wink.gif:
And even if they were extremely high, notch would still be making a royal fortune.

self profit. I bet atleast 70% is funneled straight into notch's pocket, 20% is split between the rest of them, and 10% goes to any funding that minecraft needs.
that's a bad decision imo, if they had taken as much of the profit as they could from beta and put it into the game and hired more people to code the game, imagine how much smoother it would run and all the features, then when it's out on full release they can raise the price and make millions more on a finished game..
They still say November 2011 the full game will be released, and they also say the game is still on schedule. So lets just smile and see what happens :biggrin.gif:

is there going to be updates after the full release or is it going to be in its finished state?
1.8 is the last big update before full release so it probably won't be much different and not finished.. there's so much they still need to do with redstone, and add windmills and more mechanisms and blocks ;\

Does Notch say that he will keep working on minecraft after this? There is so much more he can be adding to the game :smile.gif:

just watch. this will get pushed back to December. Their excuse: "we had to split it up into 2 updates sorry guys!"
you DO realize he cant implement whatever he wants right? If he adds something he wants, people starts to rage. Meaning that he just wasted his time coding something utterly useless. They spend a lot of time thinking what goes in. Plus, as you can tell people HATE change like its their worst nightmare. Why else do you think Notch stated that Aether is better as a mod and why he wasnt sure about the lanterns? Others started whining like it was the worst idea. Think about it.
If you truly wanted an answer, you wouldn't even have asked this on a forum to begin with, because you'd see the nonsense of your assumptions. Notch is doing just fine.
Why is it, that a single mod developer can add more to the game in one week than notch can in 2 months?
Give us some examples of this.
Aether mod? Sorry, it took 4-5 months with multiple people.
Paint mod? Yeah, TONS of new features added there (not really).
Texture mods? You know that those just repaint the already existing textures, right?
Also, mods are mostly utilizing already exiting code and modifying it - the hardest part of a mod has already been done by the devs themselves, by designing the game the mod runs on.
Does anyone remember the Halloween update? Everyone was extremely excited for it and couldn't wait, only to see it was half-assed and never finished. I feel like this release is going to be the same way.
The way notch described endermen was creepy and adrenaline-pumping. I imagined them to be awesome and scary. But in reality, what do they do? they walk toward you and cause damage when they touch you. Yeah, real scary.
These are assumptions based on what you personally want the Endermen to be like. Has nothing to do with Notch. I, for one, find the Endermen to be lots of fun, but the "scare" factor isn't something you can satisfy for everyone, because people are scared of different things. Endermen don't really frighten me, either - but nor do I get frightened by playing Doom 3 on Nightmare (well, maybe a little, but not much).
That's me, but if I judge Minecraft based on MY fears, then Notch will always fail and it's pointless for him to even try. So I can't, I need to judge the game on how it satisfies "the community", not just me in my little world where I'm the center of the universe.
Or how's about NPC villages. I expected a bunch of pigmen living in harmony, working together mutually. What did we get? A bunch of horribly generated houses that are extremely bugged.
Yes, in a leaked pre-release that wasn't meant to be finished, because it's leaked and not official.
...but any other developer team would have atleast 50 more features after 2 months of coding. I do think notch is great, but he needs to get back to the way it was when he was actually an indie game developer.
50 more features? So basically, a full game developed in 2 months? Not likely. Also, how exactly is Notch no longer an indie developer?
BTW, here's a list of what "Notch" (i.e. Mojang) has actually done the last 2 months:
- Completely rewritten the biome codes.
- Added an all-new biome - Mushroom biome.
- Redesigned the Swamp and Plains biomes.
- All biomes are now a LOT bigger.
- Added vines to the game.
- Added rivers to the game.
- Added ravines to the game.
- Bigger dungeons and added abandoned mine systems.
- Recoded all food and added several new food types.
- Recoded health system to fit new food and poison system.
- Recoded most/all loot tables.
- Recoded mob spawning rates and mob stats.
- Added new hunger meter.
- Redesigned the bow and added draw animation.
- Added weapon block to the game.
- Added sprinting (and long jump).
- Added knockback to the game.
- Added critical hits.
- Designed an experience system.
- Redesigned the Chests and added an open/close animation.
- Remodeled some animals.
- Designed two all-new mobs - Silverfish, Endermen.
- Added a new spider mob - Blue Spider.
- Added a new poison system.
- Designed in-game buildings and coded them to spawn in chunks as villages.
- Added a new FOV option to the game.
- Completely reworked the lighting engine, adding softer glows and new colors.
- Improved the game menus.
- Fixed and enabled Creative Mode for singleplayer.
- Added a new title screen.
...and more.
Yeah, you're right. All of that can easily be done by 1 person in just 1 week (around 50 hours work)... or maybe not.
I'm sorry, but you are so wrong on so many levels. Learn some basic development (correction) advanced Java coding and design before you rage, please. Better luck next time.
to everyone complaining about 'how hard coding is' mojang could easilly get corporate funding from other game studios who im sure would let him lead development and they handle coding and advertising.. idk what cobalt is but isn't scrolls a card game? who the hell plays card games in 2011?
is there going to be updates after the full release or is it going to be in its finished state?

Are the modders by chance also running a company.
