I have realms on my homepage, since I was invited to a realms server. I also have a bug were it says "Minecraft Online" instead of "Minecraft Realms" on the homepage.
I don't like this. While it's good Mojang is actually taking the initiative and moving to host their own multiplayer services for once, it seems more to me like they're trying to get a piece of the cake that all the various minecraft hosting services out there have. Even if I'm wrong, there's a strong chance that since they're making money off of people paying them to host servers they'll make like an EA and stop supporting the server jar file.
Which basically means the death of MC multiplayer as we know it. And before someone tells me I'm utterly wrong, I really don't see any other reason they'd plan to institute this service. The people that would stand to benefit from the ease of setting up are also the ones that would get more cost effectiveness out of just renting a server.

For one thing it's for affordable low-number-of-people servers. They clearly care about player-made stuff as they are making a Mod API.

I kind of agree with you but I don't think it'd end the minecraft community. More like make a big dent in the wall of server hosting. Its good that there finally doing this, but there gonna make some popular server hosting websites like Punchwood angry. I'd say mojang should release it and see what happpens. If the server hosting sites start loosing popularity or some other negative effect then they should remove it.
It says
"The service is currently in closed alpha and only a select few has been invited so far."
But what doesn't make sense why I got it then lost it.
Actually it is possible for someone to give it to you. If someone who is one the of the selected few creates a realm, they are able to invite you to it and give you access.
(I also created a mod that gives you access to minecraft realms as soon as it came out)

I want to know how to make a realms server can you tell me how?
I opened the modpack and saw this on my Main Menu.
Once I calmed down I looked into it and I saw this when I clicked the button
Then I clicked More Info
It sent me to a page; http://realms.minecraft.net/
I checked to see if this was on my other account my Hexxit Launcher and it wasn't!
I also asked around 10 people if they have it and they all said no!
What does this mean?!
Not everyone, and thing is. I shut my Hexxit ModPack and ran a 1.6.2 client and it didn't have it >.<AND NOW ITS GONE! D:
Doubt it mate.
