The results of the experiment most probably will be different from the original one. But we already know how original one ended, and I for one don't need additional things like it to believe it. But, I would really like to see how it ends when people KNOW what they are getting into. Out of pure curiosity, I would like to see how this one turns out. Will people behave the same way or will they try to keep together more and keep the environment intact? Will there be people that will be aggressive even though they KNOW what it leads to? That's what this one is going to tell us. If the knowledge of impending doom really changes anything, and how it impacts people's behavior.
I would love to apply for this, but I don't think I will be able to play every time. School and stuff. Although this doesn't mean I'm not available at all, just at certain hours.
So, to the point: will the server be online only when all the people are available like in original, or will it be online at certain hours regardless of who can be online at that time?
I'm asking, because if it will be online when everyone is able to play, there's no point in me applying, because I would only be a problem. But if it's online at certain hours, even if I'm not able to play, it wouldn't be a problem, I could just skip one or two days, and come back later.
And now I realised I just wanted to ask one thing and I wrote a wall of text. I hate myself sometimes.
This reflects my thoughts on the matter as well. It wasn't hard to guess that a Human society can destroy itself through shortsighted unsustainable consumption and conflict, but it will be very interesting to see whether or not the result can be altered if enough of them have an idea beforehand of what can be expected if they don't change their ways, or if those who care only for personal gain will ultimately prove too difficult to overcome.
~ For all of you wondering about the time frame, the sessions will happen over three days if people can get together, friday, saturday or sunday. Depending on who has what time available, for the most part I would like to have all thirty people together, but I believe a few will have prior commitments and may not be able to play for the full time.
Server would most likely be hosted 12:00 PM CST on Saturday/Sunday, and 4:00 PM Fridays if that does occur.
Three days isn't going to be nearly enough time for this. The original experiment took place over 2 months.

Three days over the period of two months? That's about 80 hours of playtime.

Are you able to work with well with the others on the project? I'm sure i will be able too as i play on servers with plugins like factions/towny which require you to work as a team to survive otherwise you faction or town will not be succesful. Reason for Applying?: I saw the original closed map and thought it would be loads of fun and immediately wanted to do something like that myself so when the oppertunity to do it i jumped at the chance. Also, the original experiment says that third-party voice chat programs were used as a means of private chats between various faction members. Presumably at the time this was written, the administrator of the experiment either didn't know about plugins that allow private chats between groups, or such plugins did not yet exist. However, since they do now, perhaps we could use one of those?

Oh I see. When you say three days, you mean three entire days. It was a little unclear, I thought you were saying we'd play three times for a few hours.

About plugins, I will possibly do something like that, however it is unlikely. I mean, you only use global chat when neccasary, but it might possibly be better to use a plugin for private chat?
Well, the project will be held over two months, with two-three days each week that we play, Most likely saturday and sunday, for five hours each time. This gives ample time to see how well this experiment goes.

I read over the results of the first experiment, it was very exciting! I hope to be a part of the second one

I think using a plugin that allows private text chat between groups would be a good idea, even if people still choose to use voice chat for convenience. Sometimes you just want to type something out.
Also, in your post you say that the world will be 300x300, but the original experiment world was 350x350.

Cooperation is everything for me... Who wants to sit around alone?! Reason for Applying?:
I'm really interested how the pre-knowledge will shape the game. Alos very interesting from a meta point of view: Our situation will be much more like the real world situation - we know what will/can/did happen. Are we going to be able to change the outcome? Timezone:

If you want, I can simply add you to the backup group that plays when someone is not able to play, or if they disconnect. It does not require nearly as much time.

Alright, I can add the private chatting plugin for those who want it.
350x350 is a large space, I would simply prefer to use 300x300 for this experiment.
It would be best to keep the world size identical to the original. The smaller the world, the faster things will run out, and the faster this will progress. Removing a 100sq block area from the game world is no small reduction, especially if you're trying to fit 30 people inside it.

I'm assuming we're not using as much time as the other group that went before us. That's why I'm partially turning down the map size. He said they used multiple days and hundreds of hours for that to happen. We're using about 80 hours.
I still think it would be preferable to keep conditions as close to the original as possible, but I'll go along with the size reduction if you insist. I do think, though, that in order to be as close to the original as possible, we should make sure that the world we use doesn't contain any villages within the borders of the walls. Villager trading would severely alter the outcome, as it is possible to essentially create rare resources from thin air by converting lesser, more common resources into emerald, and then using emerald to obtain rare items.

I'm attempting to get none of the newer structures, that provide resources without any effort.
22 Are you able to dedicate ample time to the project when required?:
I can easily dedicate 5 hours on saturday to this endeavor. On fridays, I can dedicate 5 hours, but only after 7:00 EST, as I work monday-friday, 10-6.
Are you able to work with well with the others on the project?
I have worked as a team on several other minecraft projects, including projects like multiplayer skyblock. I generally tend to prioritize the benefit of the group over personal benefit. I'm a long time MMO player who generally performs a support role (WoW Healer, etc.) Reason for Applying?:
I read the results of the original experiment, and definitely want to either play in or watch the next one. I've also been looking for a server to be collaborative on for a while. Having played skyblock, I'm aware that in theory, even with a very limited base of resources, (theoretically) infinite expansion/progress is possible. The previous iteration of this experiment took place blind, as the users did not understand the stakes. I'm hoping that the new iteration will prove that cooperation is possible as long as people realize that it is necessary to survive.

I may actually use this as an excuse to start my minecraft lets-play recording. I'll do my best to video capture play every session. Once we get started, I'll put together a youtube channel or something so that people can watch.

I am well within the means of able to cooperate with others. I host a semi-popular game on an indie forum which I constantly have to ensure I am being fair as well as fun during judgements Reason for Applying?:
